Der Nationalpark Plitvicer Seen [ˈplitʋitsɛr ˈzeːn] (kroat. Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera) ist der älteste Nationalpark Südosteuropas. Der 1949 gegründete Nationalpark befindet sich im hügeligen Karstgebiet Mittelkroatiens unweit der Grenze zu Bosnien und Herzegowina und liegt direkt an einer wichtigen Nord-Süd Straßenverbindung, welche das Landesinnere Kroatiens mit der Küstengegend verbindet. Das geschützte Nationalparkgebiet umfasst heute 296,85 km2. Davon entfallen etwa 90 % auf die Gespanschaft Lika-Senj und etwa 10 % auf die Gespanschaft Karlovac.[2] Der Nationalpark zählte seit jeher in gleichem Maße zu den historischen Regionen Lika und Kordun. Die gesamte Gemeinde, zu der der Nationalpark zählt, nennt sich Plitvička Jezera, was dem Namen der Seen im Kroatischen entspricht. The lakes are situated on the eponymous Plitvice plateau, between the mountains of Lička Plješevica (Gornja Plješevica peak 1,640 m), Mala Kapela (Seliški Vrh peak at 1,280 m) and Medveđak (884 m). The sixteen lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains, descending from an altitude of 636 m to 503 m over a distance of some 8 km, aligned in a south-north direction. The lakes collectively cover an area of about 2 km², with the water exiting from the lowest lake to form the Korana river.
The Plitvice Lakes lie in a basin of karstic rock, mainly dolomite and limestone, which has given rise to their most distinctive feature. The lakes are separated by natural dams of travertine, which is deposited by the action of moss, algae and bacteria. The encrusted plants and bacteria accumulate on top of each other, forming travertine barriers which grow at the rate of about 1 cm per year.
The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colours, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colours change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight. Source: Wikipedia

The Fort Bokar, often called the "Zvjezdan", is considered to be amongst the most beautiful instances of harmonious and functional fortification architecture. It was built by Michelozzo, while the city walls were reconstructed (from 1461 to 1463). This fort was conceived as the key point in the defense of the Pila Gate, the western fortified entrance of the city. After Minčeta Tower, this fort is the second key point in the defense of the western land approach to the city. It was built as a two-story casemate fortress, standing in front of the medieval wall face protruding into space almost with its whole cylindrical volume. It is said to be the oldest casemented fortress in Europe, which contains a small lapidary collection and numerous cannons.

Hey peeps :) Just a bit about my work in general - I absolutely love what I do and wish I could do it full time! I hand make every bead (except the seed beads!), so all are slightly different and none of my jewellery is exactly the same.

Unidentified Floating Object ! ! ! Looks like something from the old TV series, "Sea Hunt". I suppose this could be called a yellow submarine if you remember the "sub" part is pure fantasy!
Ikea had a booth there as well, showing off their then-new line of modular sofas (in a particularly ugly colour scheme here) and some eyecatching plush bugs.
This lovely lady lives above a little taco joint in Houston, called Tacos A Go-Go. It's a little hole in the wall next door to the Continental Club, and they have great tacos!
I have no idea why a huge Carmen Miranda head is hanging above their front door - but she sure is an eye catcher! ;-)

spotted these and thought wow as i loved the sunlight on them, and making the shadows too ,there maybe green but then theres green ., when i was growing up i was always arty with a drawing paper and colours, but i can always remember my grandad telling me there is more than one green , i think i was colouring a tree at the time , but looking closer in the countryside, he was right , so then my flow for different colours developed and broden my outlook in life, i still do it today , , so thats a little tale of mine i share with flickr now ., to me the above leaves looked wet but they wasnt just the sunlight on them , making them sparkle

This beautiful raptor from South America is classified as both an Eagle and a Buzzard because of a confusion created when an Adult and Immature were allotted different genus classifications because it was thought that due to the difference in plumage colouration the birds were not conspecific. (Did not belong to the same species).
Therefore, it is both an Eagle and a Buzzard, we may be confused but I don't think the bird cares one way or the other :-))
I tried to paint eyes, nose, paw and ears, the most eyecatching parts of our cat, Nilo. It took me hours, but it was fun! Although I had much homework to do, actually...

For this riverside wedding, we created an eyecatching registration table with a Texas chic flair. A bundle of red roses and a bundle of bells of Ireland rest at a playful slant in bandana-clad cylinders. Punching up the style and rounding out the look, acid green spider mums form a neat sphere. Goldenrod and sunflowers keep the look 'fresh as a daisy'.
We created this look featuring hot pink peonies, a bridal favorite! White hydrangea, pink huydrangea, fuschia mokara orchids rounded out the abundant look. A matching bridal bouquet is seen just to the left.

Sort es una localidad y un municipio de la provincia de Lérida, Cataluña, España. Fue capital del condado de Pallars, y hoy es la capital de la comarca del Pallars Sobirá. Está situada a orillas del río Noguera Pallaresa, afluente del Segre.
Durante la Edad Media Sort aparece documentado con las formas Suert, Saorte, Saort, Sabort, Sabrot, Suort, hasta llegar al nombre actual.
Hay varios orígenes etimológicos posibles de Sort:
- El más aceptado es: Sort, es también una palabra catalana que significa literalmente suerte, pero en este caso no se deriva de dicha palabra, en la toponimia suele ser un terreno pequeño que no forma una masia. En este caso, el origen del nombre es anterior a la época romana, y por tanto tiene un significado completamente diferente. Antiguamente, una lengua del grupo lingüístico al que pertenece el vasco se utilizaba en las dos vertientes pirenaicas, incluyendo el Pallars Sobirá. La raíz vasca de Sort sería suert, puente, haciendo referencia al único puente importante que cruzaba el río Noguera Pallaresa. Origen similar al que puede tener el topónimo del Pont de Suert.
- Otro posible origen sería sors-sortis, en latín, ya que se trata de una sors (parte) de las que se concedieron a los visigodos a su entrada en el Imperio romano.
