Miniature irises are popping up all over the garden. Their markings are all subtly different, this one was especially eye catching

Miravet is a municipality in the comarca of Ribera d'Ebre in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain.
Miravet is a little village located in the middle of the Terres de l’Ebre, in the middle of a beautiful landscape between mountains, the River Ebro and a leafy bank forest. You can enjoy the view by crossing the river with the ferry.
Arriving in Miravet on the ferry that crosses the river Ebro (the last one of its type that has been conserved in the Terres de l’Ebre) is an unique experience. Today, of course, a medieval tax is no longer charged for the crossing, and though cars are now transported, the ferry still uses the river current as its only driving force. Making use of a crag, the Moors decided to found the, nowadays, Old Village, and crowning the rock, the great castle, rebuilt by the Knights Templars and transformed into a fortress-monastery, after the conquest of 1153. It is considered to be the largest fortified complex in Catalonia, and one of the best examples of Romanesque, religious and military, architecture of the Templar order in the whole Western world. It keeps alive the memory of the end of the Knights at the Crown of Aragon, who suffered a 12 month siege, between 1307 and 1308.

Miravet es un municipio de Cataluña, España. Perteneciente a la provincia de Tarragona, en la comarca de Ribera de Ebro, situado al sur de ésta, a la derecha del río Ebro, y en el límite con las de Bajo Ebro y la Terra Alta. Destaca el castillo templario de Miravet, situado sobre la colina que domina el río.
El Pueblo antiguo de Miravet, Cap de la Vila, al pie del castillo y adaptado a la roca sobre el río Ebro, merece toda nuestra atención. En otro tiempo constituyó la rápita o centro urbano de la alquería musulmana de Miravet, desde sus orígenes -s. VIII-hasta la expulsión de su población en el siglo XVII.
Destaca a simple vista por su estampa panorámica, el tipismo de sus calles estrechas y porchadas, la última atarazana fluvial donde calafateaban los llaguts (s. XI), el molino de aceite y barníz alfarero, la sede de la aljama morisca y su arcada mudèjar, la iglesia "vieja" renacentista de la orden del Hospital y el mirador de la Sanaqueta así como las ruinas de las casas destruidas a causa de la Batalla del Ebro, la calle del Banco y la de las Ferreries.
Es de especial atención su enclave y la verticalidad de la roca roja sobre la que se asienta el castillo, así como la ruta de les Blores, recorrido desde la calzada empedrada del acceso sur (Costa de Riago) hasta los restos arqueológicos del primer poblado bereber, al pie del castillo, desde donde, además, se dominan unas vitas increibles sobre el Ebro, el meandro del Tamarigar, el frondoso bosque de ribera y las formaciones dolomíticas por las que pasa.

Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, herbaceous perennial plants native to Mexico. A member of the Asteraceae (or Compositae), dicotyledonous plants, related species include the sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum, and zinnia. There are 42 species of dahlia, with hybrids commonly grown as garden plants. Flower forms are variable, with one head per stem; these can be as small as 2 in (5.1 cm) diameter or up to 1 ft (30 cm) ("dinner plate"). This great variety results from dahlias being octoploids—that is, they have eight sets of homologous chromosomes, whereas most plants have only two. In addition, dahlias also contain many transposons—genetic pieces that move from place to place upon an allele—which contributes to their manifesting such great diversity.

At one time, this was the Pink Pussy Cat Building, and was used by the Parking Unit of Christchurch City Council until the February 2011 earthquake.
Opened in July 1910, it's a 2-story brick building with a facade of Oamaru stone. The pressed steel ceiling was an eyecatching feature.

Prime position! Eyecatching beach hut in Tankerton, Directly on promenade, easy stroll to toilet and shop and beach cafe. The "Upper Deck" is decorated in a seaside theme with laminate flooring and contains everything for the perfect day at the beach. Deckchairs, windbreaks, barbecue, stove ,cutlery and cups are in situ so just bring your teabags and some sausages and you are all set! There is a built in storage bench which has some beach toys for the kiddies and four folding chairs and two folding tables. Lovely raised balcony area for sitting and watching the world go by and a gate to secure young children or dogs. There is even a dog bowl for Fido! A note about the toilets: very clean and open til quite late, the shop sells everything you would need for the day and the cafe "The Seaview" is highly recommended for delicious breakfasts and they also open for evening meals. The hut is approx. 6 years old and was painted inside and out last year. The inside has been ply lined it is situated in the much sort after Marine Crescent area of Tankerton Slopes where you can park less than 10 mtrs from the hut there is only a single row of huts so you have clear views of the sea and of the world famous Whitstable sunsets there really is no other place quite like Whitstable on a beautiful summers evening. The beaches are mainly shingle and they are safe and clean for swimming. The asking price is £35,000
This is our local female Anna's hummingbird. Her boyfriend is a true stunner of color, but I haven't been able to get a clean image of him just yet.
This aloe plant in my front yard blooms almost all winter long now. Perfect for some photography when I'm nested down at the casa.
The day I got this image I was messing around with the shutter speed to see what actually will freeze a hummingbirds wing. 1/2000 of a second seems to be the magic number for me at least. This shot is 1/1250 of a second and didn't get the job done on freezing the wing but I really liked the late afternoon sun on the subject.

Seit 2005 irritiert und verwundert MARTa den Fremden, der ins westfälische Herford kommt. So erging es einst dort auch mir auf dem Weg zum Bahnhof, als ich am 21. Mai 2015, spätnachmittags, das erste Mal in dieser Westfalen-Stadt war.
Kurz vor dem Einlauf am Schienenstrang spürte ich plötzlich eine Halswirbelspontanversteifung mit einem daraus resultierenden Rechtsdrall meines bereits leicht ermüdeten Kopfes – das den Bahnhof suchende Auge hatte sich in Martas ungewöhnliches Backstein-Outfit verheddert.
Ja, DU kommst nicht einfach dran vorbei, wenn man schon mal da ist! Gucken, Staunen, Ratlosigkeit – irgendeine Mischung in dieser Richtung war es damals wohl, wegen Marta!
Erst dachte ich: Tolles Brauereigemäuer! Herford ist ja Bierstadt, was ich seit früher Kindheit weiß [dank enormer Gastronomiedominanz in Verwandtschaft und auch in etlichen Vorfahrenlinien]. Dann wollte ich rein, um vielleicht einen Altar zu erblicken – zu!
Auf der Schiene musste ich dann erst mal googeln. Und dann war schnell klar: Nix Bibel und nix Bier! MARTa ist ein Museum!
In Kürze dazu zwei Dinge: Wer schon mal im spanischen Bilbao war, dem erging es dort vermutlich wie mir in Herford. Das Gebäude des Guggenheim-Museums Bilbao ist sozusagen die Vorlage für MARTa. Und die durchaus interessante "junge" Geschichte des Herforder Museums lässt sich unter anderem auf Wikipedia nachlesen:

The cathedral of Brindisi was consecrated by Pope Urban II in 1089 and completed in 1143. The 1743 earthquake damaged it seriously and has been recovered in several occasions.
