Beehive Ginger Lily - Zingiber spectabile

An unusual and eyecatching ginger flower - Mainly bracts which form the unusual cylinder effect with the flowers opening 2 or 3 at a time from within the bracts. A very curious arrangement by nature !!

A single magpie feather left on our grass. Lovely to see that streak of metallic blue along one edge - plus the dramatic black/white shift on the other.

If it is one for sorrow, two for joy, what does just a fleeting memory of a magpie visit signify?

Colorful flowers found in my neighborhood on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Eyecatching wheeled contraption - heading a peloton made up of Extinction Rebellion protesters. They assembled in the Mall and headed past me off towards Buckingham Palace.

Franciscan Monastery is built in the transitional Romanesque-Gothic style. The construction started in 1337. In 1667 it was completely destroyed in the Great Earthquake. The door with Pieta at Stradun is the only thing left from the original church after it has been rebuilt. The Cluster of the Franciscan Monastery is considered to be a masterpiece of architecture in Dubrovnik. It was built in Romanesque-Gothic style by the famous Mihoje Brajkov from Bara. The capitals are a true example of Romanesque style, with bestiary motives bringing the spirit of Gothic as well.

Pieta at the church of Male braèe - gothic sculpture done by Leonard and Petar Petroviæ (1498). The lofty interior of the monastery (reputed once to have had ceiling paintings by Titian) was reconstructed after the Great Earthquake of 1667.

The Old Pharmacy, located inside the Franciscan monastery, was opened in 1317. It is the third oldest pharmacy in Europe, but the only one still working. The inventories, ceramics, bowls, laboratory equipment and old medical books of the old Pharmacy are kept in the Franciscan Monastery Museum, among other highly valued and priceless objects of Dubrovnik's historic and cultural past.

The Franciscan monastery's library possesses 30,000 volumes, 22 incunabula, 1,500 valuable handwritten documents. The well-labeled exhibits include a 15th century silver-gilt cross and silver thurible, an 18th century crucifix from Jerusalem in mother-of-pearl on olive wood, an martyrology (1541) by Bemardin Gucetiæ (Gozze) and illuminated Psalters.

Among the pictures is one of Ruðer Boškoviæ painted in London in 1760, and a painting showing the town before the earthquake. This painting is one of the very few ones that show the Old Town before the earthquake and is used to reconstruct and understand how Dubrovnik was build before the catastrophe in 1667.

Seoul has no shortage of arresting window displays to keep the line of creepiness going, and this one - from a Jongno-5 ga medical shop - does its part too. The Skull & Bones Club rules!

Quite an eyecatching machine to go Sunday Shopping on.

It looked quite a handful to operate. The young woman (presumably the Daughter) looked a little embarrassed to be on such a machine.

I think the Peugeot lion badges on the rear are probably red herrings... the DVLA states it is a "Modified Reliant".

Note the towbar and electrics.

This eye-catching bit of roadside kitsch near Mt. Chilbo shows our planet skewered by a Juche torch, and a unified Korea at the center of it all. The caption, partially cut off, reads "Unified Fatherland" and the map shows a huge capital vaguely in the center of the peninsula - is it Seoul....or P'yongyang? ;-)

Spotted this on my drive in to work and had to stop.

These are eyecatching, but pretty nasty. Very flimsy material and they knew it. They were $49.95.

ENGLISH

Dubrovnik, is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Dalmatia, positioned at the terminal end of the Isthmus of Dubrovnik. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Adriatic, a seaport and the center of Dubrovnik-Neretva county. Its population was 43,770 in 2001, down from 49,728 in 1991. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik has always been based on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages, as the Republic of Ragusa, also known as the fifth Maritime Republic (together with Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa and Venice), it became the only eastern Adriatic city-state to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries. Although demilitarised in the 1970s with the intent of forever protecting it from war devastation, in 1991, after the breakup of Yugoslavia, it was besieged by Serb-Montenegrin forces for 7 months and heavily damaged by shelling.

Capital del condado de Dubrovnik-Neretva. Dubrovnik es una ciudad rodeada de murallas y fortificaciones, al pie de la montaña de San Sergio, que cae a pico sobre las aguas del Mediterráneo.

senior portrait photosession

@ howling canyons

Been out on my first photoshoot with Andy, we had a great time together. So nice that he could join in on the fun as he was using my old camera whilst I played with my new works camera.

The starting point for this eyecatching necklace was a portion of a damaged vintage necklace that I came across in my search for vintage jewelry. I loved the colors and shapes, and felt that it would be a nice challenge to breathe some new life into the beautiful enameled links. The metal Y shaped portion of the necklace is vintage with the exception of the teal picasso beads which I added on using brass head pins. I then strung a rope of alternating gold, orange and teal beads in different shapes and sizes to complement the colors in the repurposed vintage portion. The beaded portion has multiple passes of very sturdy nymo, a thread widely used by beadweavers, and is finished off with a gold plated safety clasp accented with a glittering swarovski crystal. The colors remind me of the desert with its golden brown sand and cloudless blue skies.

Dimensions:

Overall length is 20 inches (50.8 cm) excluding the dangling portion which hangs about 2 inches (50.8 mm) down from the bottom of the necklace

This was taken just outside the shop at the Wellpark Garden Centre in Orkney's Kirkwall. The flowers in the foreground are mixed Polyanthus.

My first time inside this eyecatching grocery store I've passed many times. It was commemorating its anniversary--open since 1964! Nice smaller grocery store; I bought some snacks to sit in Kennedy Park nearby. Across the street from the former Chesterfield bank, now undergoing renovations (see previous photos).
