Can you really tell an ex-military man by his walk?
It is said that many ancient empires first developed marching as a way to move troops from one place to another without them getting mixed up with other troops. A soldier learning to march to drum cadences, martial music and shouted commands is considered an essential element of teaching military discipline.

Per Bill's request, here we see an all red H20 pulling up to CK as seen from the Pelzer St overpass near the border of Winona and Goodview. On the point today is an ex Milwaukee GP40. In a previous life, 4613 was the 2032 and decked out with a sweet Hiawatha nose logo. It very likely powered hot shot Sprint trains through here in the 80s. By 2017 though, the paint job and task is a bit less glamorous. However, time was running out for this former sprinter.
This would mark my last occasion of seeing a straight CP GP40, only a couple months after seeing my last Blue and Gold. And before you say "CP has GP40s 4007 and 4008"...I know...this was the last GP40 running that hadn't gone through a rebuild program. Considering CP hung onto a bunch of straight GP40s and with the -3 rebuilds getting numbered after the last DME GP40, we were hopeful more would come after 4007 and 4008. Alas, the project never materialized. Too bad, because a couple handfuls of these with beavers and PTC would have looked good.
After wyeing their power after the run back from Joffre, the Sartigan Railway is heading back to their home base of Scott to tie up. CFS 1828 was originally built as CP 8793 in 1958. It was chop nosed and rebuilt as CP 1828 in 1985.
You'd touch my lips
But you could never feel them
It must be wonderful to be this strong
Like a rock
You couldn't bend to hold me
I guess you'd guess
You're happy now.

I immediately saw Frankenstein's monster in that ripped sticker. Only the left eye added , otherwise the shape is as it were.
The F.C. Andorra - Escatrón railway was a 5ft 6in gauge line conveying coal from a mine in Andorra to a power plant in Escatrón. With two ex RENFE 141Fs in the fleet, this was virtually the last place to see main line tender locos in revenue service in Western Europe. This loaded train is near Samper de Calanda. 2124 is currently preserved at Casetas, Zaragoza.

CN 108 has a pair of ex-Citirail units (CN 3915 & CN 3929) as it heads east into the sunrise just after passing CN 149. CN has acquired a number of Citirail units that had been numbered in the CREX 1300 and 1400-series; my understanding is they will be getting 75 of these units in total.

It has been seventeen years since I took this picture of a hoverfly and, although I remember my excitement at seeing one -- I hadn't noticed them before then -- I don't remember much about it. On the same roll of film there is a living one, and this one which looks quite dead.
[EDIT: but see comments below: this was probably a Sesia apiformis, the Hornet moth.]
The film was Fuji Reala and it was in my Nikon FM.
