About Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The May 25, 1977 theatrical debut of Star Wars --- on a scant 32 screens across America -- was destined to change the face of cinema forever. An instant classic and an unparalleled box office success, the rousing "space opera" was equal parts fairy tale, western, 1930s serial and special effects extravaganza, with roots in mythologies from cultures around the world.
From the mind of visionary writer/director George Lucas, the epic space fantasy introduced the mystical Force into the cultural vocabulary and it continues to grow, its lush universe ever-expanding through film, television, publishing, video games and more.

Wednesday 02 July 2014 - Day 03 - Huaraz (3,052m)
Acclimatisation day 1..... but first the a long awaited return to the Hotel Colomba's breakfast room... YUM.
Minibus via Melky's to collect a guide for Jono and Clare, over the Río Santa and then up, up, up into the foothills of the Cordillera Negra, passing the municipal rubbish dump at the aptly named Pongo Alto en route.
From our starting point near Shecta we had fantastic views over towards the Cordillera Blanca, but the clouds were covering them fast. A lovely walk, downhill all the way, through fields and farmland, until we reached the ever expanding urban sprawl of Huaraz.
Early lunch at the Cafe Andino, then off to shop with Val and Mike for supplies to take to the LED health post in Quishuar. Purchases included a chest of drawers and kitchenware for the volunteer medics' bedroom. Afternoon tea in the gardens of the Colomba, then back out again to purchase school supplies.
Our pre dinner trip briefing took place on the veranda, by which time Christine, the final member of the initial trek team, had arrived. At 6.30pm it was out for dinner at my favourite, El Rinconcito Minero or as I prefer to call it, El Minero Rincón. I don't know why. Between ordering and eating (Chaufa vegetariano again), Val took Mike and me to get money - this year, thankfully, the BCP bank provided 500 soles cash no problem (300/S for tips, 200/S spends; ~GBP110).
Another early night - I was in bed about 9pm for another good night's sleep.
Read more about my Cordillera Blanca trek with Val Pitkethly.

In the ever-expanding tapestry of the universe, the recent revelations in quantum mechanics and quantum science have ignited a fervor of imagination and inquiry. As we peer through the veil of reality, a gateway to Proxima Centauri b—a planet that mirrors Earth in so many ways—beckons us to explore its potential. This newfound knowledge has propelled humanity into a realm of possibilities, where the dream of a second home emerges not merely as fantasy but as a plausible future. With Earth facing unprecedented challenges, from climate crises to overpopulation, the concept of 'Planet B' transcends mere escape; it becomes a beacon of hope. As our thoughts race with the implications of life on Proxima, we envision a world where humanity can thrive once more, nurturing the essence of existence in a new celestial cradle.
Poem
In whispers of stars, the secrets unfold,
A dance of the atoms, a tale yet untold,
Through quantum realms where the shadows entwine,
We glimpse at a future where destinies align.
Proxima calls with its enigmatic light,
A sanctuary awaits in the velvet of night.
With dreams woven rich in the fabric of space,
We seek out a home, a new kind of grace.
Haikus
Stars twinkle above,
Proxima's shores beckon us,
Hope's new dawn arises.
Quantum dreams take flight,
Life blooms on a distant world,
A chance to restart.
In the void we reach,
Hearts yearning for a new dawn,
Planet B awaits.

Raw shots of one of my home areas, Briar Cliff. It's my ever-expanding little roleplay area or neighborhood for some of my personal characters who are all connected in some way and know each other. I like how it's turning out and each home or room suits the different personality of the character who inhabits it. Kind of a new experiment for me, as I usually do standalone skyboxes, so I'm having alot of fun! (Note: Yeah, the unicorns don't fit - they're imaginary friends from one character's childhood, lol, so only she can 'see' them)
Pawel Romanczuk started Small Instruments (known in Polish as Małe Instrumenty) in 2006. This five-piece band explores new sounds using a wide array of small instruments, from toy pianos to homemade child-sized cellos. Other members include Marcin Ożóg, Tomasz Orszulak, Jędrzej Kuziela and Maciej Bączyk. Romanczuk’s residency at MIT involved a workshop in instrument building and composition for MIT students, culminating in a public concert.
In 2007, the band made its debut at Era New Horizons Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland and has since worked on many music projects under the name of Małe Instrumenty. Małe Instrumenty also record music for films, broadcasts, and audio books. The group has collaborated with many prominent art organizations and artists in Poland and Europe.
Inspired by the soundtracks to old Polish animated films, the instruments used in the group’s sonic experiments feature an ever-expanding array of instruments, children’s toys, and strange musical inventions. Małe Instrumenty’s music reveals the unique colors of sound, from the beautiful to the surprising to the insightful.

With almost 20 years’ experience as a window cleaner, Zhang Shimin has witnessed the astounding urban growth of the Chinese capital. “There was nothing outside the Third Ring Road, when I first came to Beijing,” he explained, perched on the roof of a 31-story building overlooking the ring road.
Since Zhang’s arrival in 1993 as a migrant laborer from a rural area of Sichuan Province, many of the traditional bungalows that housed most of the Beijing residents have given way to tall apartment blocks catering to the city’s growing middle class.
With the boom has come heavy demands for exterior cleaning as residents can no longer reach the exterior of their windows. A few daring migrant workers like Zhang chose to take the risk and dangle down on ropes in pursuit of higher wages.
The most demanding periods of the year are from the middle of March to the end of May; then from the end of September until the bitter cold stops them from working.
The contrast between the humble dwellings of the migrant worker cleaners as compared to the homes they look into everyday could not be greater, but Zhang says he seldom looks into the windows while working. “I won’t compare myself with them while working, we are totally different groups.”
City expanding
In spite of the ever-expanding buildings, business is not all that it should be. Zhang explained that China’s strict anti-corruption campaign has affected their window cleaning business this year. “People who were taking rebates in the cleaning projects are holding back now, so there is really not as much as normal,” Zhang said.
As the thriving business center of Beijing, Chaoyang district, where Zhang’s high rise career started, was enjoying the soaring property opportunities in the first ten years of the 21th century. Construction work has now expanded around the major axis of the city. From the Third Ring Road, to the Fourth and now the Fifth and Sixth are seeing rising apartment buildings and with them, new opportunities for Zhang and his team emerge.

first time in over 40 years that he donned

He lives for years in

sad clown persona
to lure in the

He did, and explained that he
appealed to that mothering instinct

he take off his makeup before
getting romantic? This is a question
he preferred to leave
unanswered.

Fort York, named for the town it defended was built in 1793 by the order of John Graves Simcoe, the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada when he established a new Capital for the colony at York. When war errupted in 1812 the fort survived the first year of the war, but was destroyed along with much of the town during the Battle of York on April 27th, 1813. The fort was rebuilt under the orders of Major General Francis de Rottenburg, and was able to repel a third attack against York late in the War. Today the Fort remains the largest collection of War of 1812 buildings in Canada.
Of all the fort's I've visited Fort York is the most unique as it is a little piece of the 19th century surrounded by the ever expanding 21st century Toronto. Fort York remains my home fort, and the home fort of my reenacting unit, 7th Battalion, 60th of Foot. Despite the fact that historically the 60th never served in Upper Canada during the War of 1812, two of our members have connections to the fort, along with our sister until the 10th Royal Vets.

Paste Modernism is the largest celebration of the medium of 'paste-ups' in Australia, and is now presented again for the 3rd time at Outpost Projecton Cockatoo Island. Throughout its inception it has found residence in staples of the Sydney art scene, starting initially with the artist run residence Hibernia House in a guerilla exhibition, and finally graduating to the heritage walls of Cockatoo Island. Every available inch of over 300 square meters of wall space will be covered with the pasted artworks of over 100 local and international artists.
The 'Paste-Up' is an ever-expanding and innovative form of street art, that involves an artist making their work onto varying sizes of paper and then applying it to walls and surfaces within their urban environment using wheat-paste or wallpaper glue. Whether as black and white multiplied photocopies, colourful hand painted murals or thought provoking text pieces, the 'Paste-Up' is an immediate and bold contemporary art-form.

The San Francisco Museum of Photography staged a terrific exhibition on the photos of Perez.
An excerpt from the exhibition's program:
...Perez photographs his subjects' faces in intimate detail, twisting the focus to abstraction while documenting the sadness of aging. He uses the "flaws" in their faces to create unexpected shapes more reminiscent of a surrealist work than a simple portrait.
In "Heads Blown Up" Perez seeks to maximize the expressive qualities of his subjects by removing them from the limitations of gesture. This change in context gives the images a greater impact, evoking different reactions from the audience. The strength of such images is based on isolation, magnification, and framing, causing the image to be interpreted as more than just an eye or a mouth. Changing context to change perception.
Perez describes the face as a "Free floating signifier that allows each viewer individual interpretations…the face becomes a text capable of many complex readings, an agent of evocation and a malleable instrument of performance with an ever expanding depth of possible meanings."
