Was trying to re-organise my ever expanding photo collection when I came across this shot from 2006 that I hadn't processed - seem to remember that it was a stunning day - not a breath of wind and a startling blue sky.

This is a hand held HDR generated from 3 exposures at +/- 2 stops.

We met this boy on the Sihanoukville Coast. He was so hyper, so taking a good picture of him was almost impossible. But when I made him busy for a while, my friend took this photo.

Sihanoukville would never win first prize in a pretty-town competition but thanks to a surrounding coastline of white-sand beaches this is Cambodia's most happening sun-sloth destination. Named in honour of the then head-of-state, Sihanoukville (Kong Preah Sihanouk; also known as Kompong Som) was hacked out of the jungle in the late 1950s to create Cambodia’s first and only deep-water port, strategically vital because it meant that the country’s international trade no longer had to pass through Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.

Today it is a bustling and ever expanding city, but its sandy bits are one step removed from the hubbub. The Serendipity Beach area is a sort of decompression chamber for backpackers, who flock here to rest up between travels and party through the night.

Even further away from the hustle, in the far south of town, is relaxed Otres Beach, where cheap bungalow joints and bohemian-flavoured guesthouses are now neighbours with rather swish boutique resorts. The mellow scene here ticks all the boxes if you're looking for lazy days of sunbathing rather than night-time bar-hopping.

Although none of Sihanoukville's beaches qualify as Southeast Asia's finest, the sandy strips rimmed by casuarina trees and coconut palms have plenty of tropical charm and it's easy to find stretches of sand to yourself, especially if you venture outside the centre. If they're not picture-postcard-perfect enough for you, Sihanoukville is also the jumping-off point to Cambodia's southern islands, where castaway-cool beckons.

About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The May 25, 1977 theatrical debut of Star Wars --- on a scant 32 screens across America -- was destined to change the face of cinema forever. An instant classic and an unparalleled box office success, the rousing "space opera" was equal parts fairy tale, western, 1930s serial and special effects extravaganza, with roots in mythologies from cultures around the world.

From the mind of visionary writer/director George Lucas, the epic space fantasy introduced the mystical Force into the cultural vocabulary and it continues to grow, its lush universe ever-expanding through film, television, publishing, video games and more.

In 1946 Mr Cecil Brown left his position as Sales Manager with a well known steel stockholder to start his own company. The business commenced selling steel from a small bedroom in his house, soon moving to a small yard at Old Hill, in the heart of the Black Country. This was soon outgrown and a move to a larger yard in Peartree Lane, Dudley was required.

In 1952 a larger premises was purchased in Peartree Lane and purpose built buildings were constructed to accommodate the ever growing business.

In 1958 the founders oldest son Roy, joined the company and he was soon followed by his two brothers Graham and Roger. In 1977 his daughter Susan, joined the ever expanding company.

It was during this period that the company commenced operations in Shearing, Cold Flattening and Flame Cut Profiling.

Most notably in 1969 the company became one of the first independent Stockholders in the country to install dedicated Heavy Strip Mill facilities and purchased its first heavy Strip Mill decoiler.

In 1978 the business constructed its current headquarters, "Cochrane House", a 35,000 sq. metre purpose built Strip Mill processing Centre on Pedmore Road, Dudley, West Midlands. This was followed in 1979 by the commissioning of a bespoke Heavy Decoiling Strip Mill plate line with a capacity of 2000 x 15mm. Soon after two further Strip Mill Decoiling plate lines were also installed on the site.

The early 1980's saw the purchase of additional premises in Peartree Lane, and further development took place. It was here that the Profile Department was re-sited and continued to develop with the introduction of plasma and laser cutting in the 1990's.

In 1998, the company continued to diversify by commissioning a Multi-strand blanking line located at Cochrane House.

Due to changing market conditions the company consolidated a number of operations during 2004 and now continues to concentrate its business in Strip Mill processing, General Steels, Flame Cutting and Laser Cutting.

November 2005 saw the third generation of the Brown family taking ownership and control of the company. Since this time the business has continued to develop and provide the industry with high quality products and service.

CLOSE THE CAMPS - Day 18 - Public Health & Harm Reduction

August 18, 2019 - Day 18 of a Month of Actions at ICE in San Francisco to CLOSE THE CAMPS.

From the organizers of the Day 18 rally:

"WE unite together as doctors, nurses, public health workers/researchers and advocates and as harm reductionists to confront the lethal obscenity of Trump’s concentration camps and policies of medical neglect and abuse toward those seeking refuge in our country.

It is imperative for health care providers to take an official and public stand against the inhuman treatment (in some cases, overseen by licensed medical professionals) at these ever-expanding detention facilities, at the conscious policy of neglect that is tantamount to torture and that has resulted in the wholly-avoidable deaths of at least 7 asylum-seeking children in the last few months. This needs to be called out and delegitimized, much as when professional psychiatrists/psychologists enabled and legitimized the brutal torture techniques at Guantanamo and CIA secret rendition-sites and were eventually confronted. That time is now.

PLEASE unite with us, concerned healthcare providers and public health workers from the UCSF, DPH and harm-reduction services communities in witness and opposition."

Historic Marktown, a unique industrial village in East Chicago, Indiana, is facing the imminent threat of demolition by the ever-expanding BP refinery. Built in 1917, the community plan resembles a small English village, but homes were intended for workers from the surrounding steel mills. It is an utterly unique development, and residents are organizing to try to block demolition. Anyone so inclined is invited to join them at the East Chicago City Council on Monday, April 28, 2014 (Facebook event).

Doel is a 700 year old village on the river Scheldt in Belgium. Near to the local nuclear power plant, with its two giant cooling towers, it became the target for demolition not once but twice in order to make way for the ever expanding harbor. The successful protest groups of the seventies could not compete in the 90's and as residents began to leave, the government refused to rent out the properties again and instead let them fall into disrepair.

Negative thoughts and publicity concerning the demolition of Pruitt-Igoe continue to affect opportunity for growth and change. In an attempt to wipe the slate clean a secret ops team is commissioned to track down all former inhabitants. Revolutionary new military technology is employed, obliterating all memory of the housing projects. A modern day Levittown stands in its place. A picture perfect life perpetuates like clockwork. Only a select few sense the disconnect. a rupture. a blankness

As the government’s resources continue to drain, the city descends into anarchy. Fear rules the streets. Out of the chaos a group seeks refuge in the forests of Pruitt-Igoe. A tree house architecture evolves, as well as informal self-governance. Soon, more St. Louisans voluntarily move to the growing ad hoc asylum of collaboration and communal living. The squatters claim their territory within the city - ever-growing. ever-shrinking. ever-changing.

McDonald’s headquarters moves to the vacant Pruitt-Igoe site as a response to initiatives to bring jobs to St. Louis. The success of the company in the city continues to augment, and soon the economy of St. Louis is solely dependent on the fast-food empire. The golden arches rise higher and higher, soon casting a shadow on Saarinen’s arch.

Year 3275 – Scientists at the turn of the 2nd millennium had just begun to understand the effects of climate change. The ancient city of St. Louis began to flood more and more, eventually becoming completely submerged under the ever-expanding waters of the Great Lakes. In order to avoid scorching temperatures, inhabitants live in submarine towns below the water’s surface. The Pruitt-Igoe site becomes an oxygen farm, utilizing various seaweeds and algae. Harvesters yield crucial oxygen supplies making Pruitt-Igoe a source of life to the underwater residents.

Another grail has joined my ever expanding army of 12" fashion dolls. I have wanted this doll for a long time, well, at least for the last 7 years, but a couple years ago, I stopped actively looking for her.

Recently, a fellow collector had decided to downsize his collection, and I spotted this gal in one of his photos, she was on the bottom shelf of his display case. I inquired about buying her, and at first he said no, but then a day later he reached out and told me I could buy her. I am beyond thrilled to have this Gorgeous doll!!!

I like how it's turning out and each home or room suits the different personality of the character who inhabits it. Kind of a new experiment for me, as I usually do standalone skyboxes, so I'm having alot of fun! Decorated window, Doel, Antwerp.

Doel is a small ghost town next to the ever expanding port of Antwerp.

Since 1999 the villagers are being expropriated, and most of them left. Anarchist squatters and Roma families have taken their places, since then living illegally in the abandoned houses. Kids are playing outside (instead of going to school), dogs look for food amongst the garbage, and the household stuff is often thrown on the streets. Yet, a couple of pubs are still serving their customers, the police is driving around, and the government is promising a quick solution for the 100 or so illegal Roma gypsies...

A fictitious castle located on a cliffsite with a mysterious past.

You can find more information about the model in the description of shot 1, which you will find in the "Zarisse Castle" Album.

Here is the lore behind this structure:

Today, Zarisse Castle is one of the biggest collection of historic documents, nonfiction and novels, with an ever-expanding library, a save haven for the unloved and broken. In its darkest hours, it was a place of torture, suffering, pain, cannibalism and death.

The first mention of what we know as Zarisse Castle today was a small watchtower called Talayot Tower. It is presumed that this tower was supposed to watch both the naval and the

land route between the cities of Naieen and Sernova, or their predecessor respectively. It got abandoned in a war between these cities.

The empty Talayot Tower raised interest in some aristocrats. The one who ended up buying it from Sernova was Frederik Thayman. He put huge amounts of time and money into the

renovation of the tower to make it his castle. From this time period the documents are well preserved, making the models of the original state of Talayot and the state of the castle after

the renovations remarkably precise.

After Frederik Thayman was forced out of his castle, troups of Sernova repurposed it into a mountain stronghold. Huge mineshafts were dug by prisoners, just to make place for new ones.

A group of people calling themselfes the Zarisse raided the castle during wartime. The weakened soldiers guarding it lost a horrible battle. Most of them were killed, the surviving few jammed into the mineshafts with the prisoners.

The Zarisse kept defending it, defeating a whole battalion on the bridge at one point. The violation of their contract with Sernova and their more and more extreme ways of the Zarisse lead one of their youngest members, Jocelyn, to the decision to wipe them out of existence. He then collected the Zarisse’s library and started to preserve and expand it.

Over the time, more and more people came, outcast, unloved, weird, making the castle into a palladium of knowledge, guarded by those nobody cared about.

With almost 20 years’ experience as a window cleaner, Zhang Shimin has witnessed the astounding urban growth of the Chinese capital. “There was nothing outside the Third Ring Road, when I first came to Beijing,” he explained, perched on the roof of a 31-story building overlooking the ring road.

Since Zhang’s arrival in 1993 as a migrant laborer from a rural area of Sichuan Province, many of the traditional bungalows that housed most of the Beijing residents have given way to tall apartment blocks catering to the city’s growing middle class.

With the boom has come heavy demands for exterior cleaning as residents can no longer reach the exterior of their windows. A few daring migrant workers like Zhang chose to take the risk and dangle down on ropes in pursuit of higher wages.

The most demanding periods of the year are from the middle of March to the end of May; then from the end of September until the bitter cold stops them from working.

The contrast between the humble dwellings of the migrant worker cleaners as compared to the homes they look into everyday could not be greater, but Zhang says he seldom looks into the windows while working. “I won’t compare myself with them while working, we are totally different groups.”

City expanding

In spite of the ever-expanding buildings, business is not all that it should be. Zhang explained that China’s strict anti-corruption campaign has affected their window cleaning business this year. “People who were taking rebates in the cleaning projects are holding back now, so there is really not as much as normal,” Zhang said.

As the thriving business center of Beijing, Chaoyang district, where Zhang’s high rise career started, was enjoying the soaring property opportunities in the first ten years of the 21th century. Construction work has now expanded around the major axis of the city. From the Third Ring Road, to the Fourth and now the Fifth and Sixth are seeing rising apartment buildings and with them, new opportunities for Zhang and his team emerge.
