A re-edited shot from the summer of 2020.
After working Mingo Junction, WV all morning, a classic pair of EMDX painted SD40-2s (WE 6314/6312) lead train 218 (Brewster, OH - Pittsburgh, PA) as they wake up the small town of Avella, PA, screaming over the North Fork Cross Creek bridge in notch 8 along the WLE Rook Sub. Both units are formally Milwaukee Road. Taken: 7-19-20
This was one of my favorite chases, as getting one GM leading on the Wheeling is hard enough as it is, but getting a pair was the icing on the cake. This is one spot I wish I had the video camera going, the word “screaming” is not enough to describe the sound of these units cutting through the Valley.
A trio of Finger Lakes Railway GP38-2's lead the eastbound leg of the GS-2 as it rolls through the town of Seneca Falls, New York as a few snow flurries fall. On the right is the former New York Central freight house, now home to a dentist office.

A winter storm rolls through Piedmont, Montana and fills the air with heavy snowfall as an extra Montana Rail Link crew has just signed on to the 7th Subdivision at the block register box and is tying on to a cut of storage cars. The train will be pulled north to Whitehall where the pair of MRL SD70ACe's would be cut off and the BNSF unit will be used to take the train east and hand it off to BNSF.

SD70M-2 142 in the CITX lease fleet leads a FURX SD40-2 out of CSX's Barr Yard back in 2006. SD70MAC 744 was lapping the manifest with a BRC-bound intermodal.
CITX 142 was built two years previous as EMDX demo EMDX GM76. It played around on the Florida East Coast for a few years before going back into the general pool of CITX motors.
NS 6D4 rolls east out of Bluefield yard on a sunny May morning. A Canadian Pacific GE and a yellow EMDX unit are in charge as it now heads toward Roanoke, Va.

During the TTC2025 conference hosted by Ensco, 1207 pulls 2 coaches down one of the many loops on the site to demonstrate a crossing activation/detection system that is being tested on site.

EMDX 1608 leads 5 tanks cars around TTC's High Tonnage loop outside of Pueblo CO. The 1608 and its small train were demonstrating train detection systems during the Third annual conference hosted by Ensco and TTC.
CP 246 had quite the trio for power today with CP 8737, EMDX 7210 and CSX 489. Here they rumble out from under the Highway 6 overpass to Newman Road on the approach to Desjardins.
One of Progress Rail's SD70ACe-T4 trails on CP train 499, as it crosses over Range Rd 251 at the east end of Strangmuir.
First catch of the year... 228 heads east at Clarksfield with a EMDX blue unit leading two tigers and 70 cars.
With stone traffic down, 10 of the recently purchased 6900 series units have been stored, likely for the winter.
KCS MVNKC, powered by a duo of EMD's latest products, accelerates past a local farm and their prized stallions in Nebo, Illinois. Just 25 miles to the East before leaving Roodhouse, the crew had to swap around the engines after having problems with the EMDX 7237. Luckily for the crew, the train was only 12x27 after leaving Roodhouse, so the EMDX 7212 alone was sufficient for the steep grades of the river valleys.

A short Wheeling & Lake Erie 618 crosses over the trestle in Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania behind a pair of SD40-2's on a late fall afternoon. In lead is former FURX leaser WE 6987, originally built as a PRR SD40 in 1966.

This might be a re- post . One of my favorite days railfanning in the last decade was this chase of the one and only Electro Motive Divison SD70Ace in Caterpillar paint leading NS train # 055. Back then NS ran a dedicated train of Caterpillar and Komatsu tractors and parts from Decatur IL to Savannah GA for export. On Oct 25th 2012 NS used the specially painted cat unit for power. We made about 9 sets that day with this view at Posey IL one of my favorites.
CP 141 with CP 8042, MPEX 679, EMDX 7225 and 116 cars is finally cruising through Sand Creek, Michigan after struggling to make a 6 car pick up at Milan. The wild rainbow of colors in the unusual locomotive consist was compelling enough to find a wide open spot and break out the lights. 12/31/2020
The Wheeling & Lake Erie's 431 has arrived in Lima, Ohio after running west across the CF&E and is now making their shove move up the IORY to back into Ford Park Yard, passing by a set of DT&I searchlight signals. The crew will tie the train down for the night, then make the return run east the next morning.

KCS 4006 for the third week in a row leading MVNKC North on a Saturday in Central IL. This train runs from Venice, IL to the KCS Murray Yard in Kansas City. Here he is leading the train North through the small town of White Hall, IL on the KCS Godfrey Sub. As it is very visible the train had two of the Progress Rail SD70ACE-T4 units trailing. KCS has a handful of these units scattered across their system.
The Great Lakes Central's OSTN arrives in Howell, Michigan on a rainy October evening, pounding the diamond with CSX's Plymouth Sub and rolling past a set of searchlight signals after dropping the conductor off. The crew will work the interchange with CSX here before continuing south towards Ann Arbor.

An eastbound Canadian National freight on the Grand Trunk was tied down at Western Avenue on a grubby late afternoon on the winter of 2006.
An elderly BNSF SD9 and a EMDX GP38 were assisting the home road's GE C44-9W for the trip across Michigan. I'm sure the crew was not too excited when they pulled up to see this thing sitting there.
This would have sounded fantastic clawing up the hill in Valparaiso.
As the sun sets below the the horizon, a US Sugar Corp. Railroad train with loads of sugarcane approaches the mill in Clewiston, Florida, closely following the train ahead of it that came off the Flaghole Subdivision. In the lead is GP40-2 4201, an ex Milwaukee Road GP40 that now wears the railroad's newest paint scheme.

Originally meant to be part of a 10 unit order from NS that ended up being canceled, this Tier 4 ACe now calls the EMD Lease fleet it's home and has been working for FXE since almost 2 years ago.
With the delivery of 30 new ES44AC's completed and the delivery of 60 AC44C6M's well underway, the time for these engines is clicking fast as most likely once all the 90 GE's are delivered they'll be returned to the lessor with an uncertain future ahead of em.
