Ex-Metropolitan Railway E Class 0-4-4T No 1, now London Transport L.44, at Quainton in September 1971, with faded paintwork and freshly-painted buffer beam and coupling rod, and touched-up number.. The paint had been removed from the brass dome, but this has now tarnished..

The loco had entered service in 1898, and was used on some LT special trips in the early-1960s:

It was finally withdrawn in 1963, after taking part in the LT Metropolitan Centenary celebrations, and was stored for a time in sidings at Luton, and then moved to Aylesbury, and finally to Quainton in September 1970.

Restoration started in 1975, and the loco later appeared in some of the first ‘Steam on the Met’ specials starting in 1989. It was later overhauled and restored to steam in time for the 150th anniversary of the London Underground, in 2013:

Today (2024) it is in storage at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton, awaiting its latest overhaul.

Brochure on another version of the K-Car. They got a lot of mileage out of this platform, many were just name changes for existing models.

Brochure from my collection. I have scanned thousands of them for your enjoyment.

A Mercedes E-Class V213 photographed in Beijing, Beijing municipality, China.

For the 213 generation, Mercedes decided to produce in China the short and the stretch sedan.

For the stretch version, Mercedes did special effort : new rear seats and a third side window. More than just a longer rear door.

Stretch E-Class 213 has three gas engines : 2.0 184hp (200L) and 245hp (300L) and V6 3.0 272hp (320L). 4WD is available on 200L and 320L.

Sold for 436.800 to 629.800 RMB (about €58.000-83.600 or US $63.400-91.300).

Although this plate could have several meanings, I am very sure it's meant to denote the German word "Pole", that's just 'Pole, Polishman' in English.

It's not uncommon to have Germans with Polish background register their cars in Poland, especially if they move "back".

This is only the thrid plate from BK I get to spot, but it's also the first EU-band plate. Back then, these were pretty new to see and it was cool to see them on a code I don't get to see that often. I believe there are some codes I have never seen without the EU band. I guess the owner purchased this car in Berlin and then took it back to Ukraine. It features a Berlin dealer frame and I've never seen it again. I believe that Russians etc. buy there cars here because they could sell them more easily in the EU because they are "European delivery" rather than Russian or Ukrainian. That's at least true for exotic cars.

I've already spotted a Ukrainian E-Class from Kharkiv several times in Düsseldorf and Köln, I feel like this is their new car, although they got different plates.

Definitely one of the last coded Moldovan plates I could spot, of course from its capital under the latest K-code. The plate looks pretty worn.

A very cool Russian plate from the Region of Krasnodar. Krasnodar is boardering with the Black Sea and (political) Georgia. Russian plates other than Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad always are a favorite spot of mine, and since Krasnodar is more than 2000kms away from Berlin, this automatically qualifies to be one of my best plates.

E Class 0-4-4T Met No.1 leads the District 150/District Pioneer Heritage Train into Chiswick Park. Sarah Siddons is on the rear. The route the train took over this weekend was over the District Line from Ealing Broadway to Kensington High Street. Very little if any of it was underground and the journey took barely 30 mins each way so I hope the passengers got their money's worth at £150 each!

Now in winter Finnish plates are really rare to see, which isn't all that surprising. Swedes and Danes however are frequent during the coldest months. Finnish plates are easily one of the most common rare plates for me.

The new E-Class is quite an awesome car. It looks very Mercedes-like and has the perfect amount of sexyness to stand between the C- and S-Class. Unfortunately, it's 2018 already and you all know new E-Classes. It was, however, quite interesting to spot one from Mogilev this early. I usually get to see newer foreign cars with a delay, except for some cars from Poland.

Wat a lovely spot from Ukraine. Sure, Ukrainian cars are nowhere close to rare here, neither are E-Classes...especially not E-Classes, but this one is quite a lovely spot whit its roof box. This spot also marks my first spot from Cherkasy, which is quite special to me.

Interestingly enough, there's a similiarly colored Ukrainian car in the background :p.

Krasnodar is relatively far away and used to be a rare code. Until 2018 and 2019, where I got to spot quite a few of them. 2020 had none, obviously.

Although Dutch taxis are not all that common in Düsseldorf or Köln, it's always very nice to see one since I didn't get to see any during the last entire year in Berlin. It's not that unlikely that this vehicle was waiting for a customer and not being used as a private car this day.

This 300 CE AMG 3.4 was delivered new to AMG Japan in August 1991, who subsequently carried out the full AMG conversion to make the car what it is today. Under the bonnet, the venerable M104 inline six was over-bored to 3.4-litres and the crank upgraded to increase stroke, whilst bespoke AMG camshafts improved top-end performance, unlocking an extra 40 bhp and bringing total output to 270 bhp. The body was also adorned with the full ‘widebody’ kit, featuring flared wheel arches, three-piece deep-dish AMG split-rim wheels by OZ Racing, rear spoiler, and deep front air dam. The interior benefits from upgraded Recaro heated and electronically adjustable seats, factory-fitted ‘Tempomatic’ air conditioning, AMG steering wheel, gear knob, and AMG instrument cluster.

The car remained in its adopted home of Japan until 2016, until it was purchased by the current owner and imported to Switzerland. It is accompanied by a handful of Japanese service invoices, its original owner’s manuals, and Mercedes-Benz Fahrzeugdaten. Finished in the traditional colour scheme of Brilliant Silver over a black leather interior, this is the ultimate incarnation of the six-cylinder W124 C Class, presented in exceptional condition throughout.

Coachwork by Pilato

For decades, Mercedes vehicles have been the preferred basis for hearses owing to their elegant design, their sound workmanship, and their longevity and reliability. The vehicle on display has a bodywork built by the Italian firm Pilato. The large windows and ornate appointments are typical features of Italian hearses.

Runde Doppelendrohrblenden am Heck und eine neue Heckschürze mit sportlichem Diffusor-Look mit drei Längsfinnen lassen schon ahnen, welche Performance das gute Stück abliefert.

Round double tailpipe trims at the rear and a new rear apron with a sporty diffuser look with three longitudinal fins give an idea of the performance this good piece delivers.

thanks Kim...you are amazing!

This is my lego model of Metropolitan Railway Loco no. 1. It is an E-class - and the prototype of this engine is the only member of the class to be preserved.

My model is 7-studs wide, and uses BBB medium size wheels for the drivers. The main body is made in Dark Red bricks, and the yellow lines round the boiler are made from rubber pulleys/belts. Finally the motor bogie is mounted on a turntable at it's end, allowing the loco to negotiate curves and points.

The model has already been displayed at the LTM's Acton Depot, but I'm hoping I'll get the opportunity to take it to Bucks railway center, where the real one is!
