The Cowan/ Malkin/ Broad driver team drove this Mercedes-Benz 280 E to victory in the 1977 London-Sydney marathon, the world’s toughest rally. Second were their team-mates Fowkes/O’Gorman, also in a 280 E. The cars and drivers were on the move across Europe, Asia and Australia for six-and-a-half weeks, covering over 18.600 miles in the process.

A Mercedes E-Class V213 photographed in Beijing, Beijing municipality, China.
For the 213 generation, Mercedes decided to produce in China the short and the stretch sedan.
For the stretch version, Mercedes did special effort : new rear seats and a third side window. More than just a longer rear door.
Stretch E-Class 213 has three gas engines : 2.0 184hp (200L) and 245hp (300L) and V6 3.0 272hp (320L). 4WD is available on 200L and 320L.
Sold for 436.800 to 629.800 RMB (about €58.000-83.600 or US $63.400-91.300).

Very nice plate, only having one number and one letter. Of course, plates from Szczecin are very very common in Berlin. But it's cool to see a nice plate that's not an individual one.

This is one of the rare re-issued diplomatic plates, denoted by the final A. These plates are issued when the original plate is stolen/lost etc. Usually, when a plate is lost or destroyed, this combination is blocked for a few years and you'll have to re-register to avoid fraud. This cannot be applied to diplomats, of course, where an ambassador won't register under a different number.

I've spotted only a few Dutch exports plates this year in Berlin. Usually, I don't really spot them because they are more common than you would think, but everything is different nowadays.
I wasn't going to bother papping this but the evidence of a tough life was too great to ignore. Scratches all along the nearside. This is one indestructable beast of a motor. Local car as well!

Plates from Rostov are definitely not that easy to find here. Rostov is close to Ukraine, so it's not incredibly far away, but it's also not that close. It's also not that easy to get from Rostov to Berlin as most highways aren't exactly helpful. Definitely one of the codes I spot.

The pointed finger says it all: 'Cor! Look At That!!' The sight of Metropolitan Railway No. 1 working hard through West Kensington station was probably the last thing passengers on the eastbound train expected to see on their journey on 22nd June 2019. It certainly proved to be a head-turner, as it made its way from Kensington High Street to Ealing Broadway hauling the second 'District Line 150th Anniversary' shuttle of the day. I don't normally post so many photos in one day but I was invited to take part of a photography e-class by the endearing SnapYappy and I thought I would give it a try. It is called the joy of love and it is for February. Today's prompt was "What They Do". Take a photo of your loved ones doing something. Here is my Kiwi. He is eating breakfast and it is a breakfast that he cooked all by himself. He wants to be a chef and a pyrotechnic. I asked him if he wanted to be a pyrotechnic chef. Um, no. Anyway, he makes me eggs in the morning and he has a secret ingredient. Instead of putting in milk, he puts a splash of lime in them. Try it, they are delicious. I love this boy. He has a tender heart, he has the gift of serving and one day, he will make a darn fine chef.
Join us!!!
Edit: I was just informed by K that I should not have given out his secret ingredient! OOOPS! I need to learn this for the future!

Albanian plates used to be fairly rare for me to see, they are probably impossible to spot in 2020. This one's one of my better spots to my trip to Italy in 2017. I was expecting Albanian plates due to the Albanian diaspore in Italy, and I was blessed with a spot just a couple of minutes after setting foot in Italy.

Coachwork by Pilato
For decades, Mercedes vehicles have been the preferred basis for hearses owing to their elegant design, their sound workmanship, and their longevity and reliability. The vehicle on display has a bodywork built by the Italian firm Pilato. The large windows and ornate appointments are typical features of Italian hearses.

It was intersting to find this older Ukrainian car at atn upscale hotel, the Ritz-Carlton. Cars and plates from Donetsk however are super rare and I can't even remember if I have seen one in the past few months.

Metropolitan Railway 'E Class' 0-4-4T No.77 - now London Transport L.46 - at Neasden depot, on a bright winters day in February 1959, with another of the class on the left, and an ex-GWR pannier just visible in the shed, behind..
The curtains in the cab of L.46 were presumably used to provide some protection for the crew from smoke and fumes when going through tunnels..
Three of the four remaining members of the class were withdrawn and scrapped in the early-60s.
One of the class - L.44 - hauled the last LT steam passenger service, in 1961, and was kept in service until 1965, when it was purchased for preservation. L.44 was restored as Metropolitan No.1, and in January 2013 hauled a 'heritage' train through the Metropolitan Line tunnels between Edgware Road and Moorgate, to celebrate 150 years of the Metropolitan Railway.

Ex-Metropolitan Railway E Class 0-4-4T No 1, now London Transport L.44, at Quainton in September 1971, with faded paintwork and freshly-painted buffer beam and coupling rod, and touched-up number.. The paint had been removed from the brass dome, but this has now tarnished..
The loco had entered service in 1898, and was used on some LT special trips in the early-1960s:

It was finally withdrawn in 1963, after taking part in the LT Metropolitan Centenary celebrations, and was stored for a time in sidings at Luton, and then moved to Aylesbury, and finally to Quainton in September 1970.
Restoration started in 1975, and the loco later appeared in some of the first ‘Steam on the Met’ specials starting in 1989. It was later overhauled and restored to steam in time for the 150th anniversary of the London Underground, in 2013:

Today (2024) it is in storage at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton, awaiting its latest overhaul.
