Met No.1 leads the 'District Pioneer' Heritage Train through Baron's Court Underground Station. We'd just jumped off a District Line S Stock on the neighbouring platform and I just had time to snap some shots as the Heritage Train came through the station.

Original Mercedes Benz E Class Ambulance vehicle

Ex-Metropolitan Railway E Class 0-4-4T L.48 at Neasden Works, on a sunny winters day in November 1961. The loco had entered service in 1901 as Metropolitan Railway No 81, and was renumbered by London Transport to L.48 in 1933, and was withdrawn in 1963, and scrapped.. One member of the class has survived – Metropolitan No 1, which was renumbered when the A Class loco with that number was scrapped after an accident, and which later became L.44.…

The power station closed down in 1968, and the demolished remains were taken away by LT departmental freight trains to Croxley Tip – steam-hauled until 1971, and battery-electric after that..

Neasden Works is still in use today (2025) but has been substantially rebuilt..

Part of the static display at Neasden depot to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Metropolitan Railway, in May 1963.

Nearest the camera is E Class 0-4-4T L.44, then ‘Growler’ electric loco No 1 ‘’John Lyon’’, a T Stock unit, and an F Stock ‘Tank’ unit just visible at the far end.. No 1 is carrying a destination board for Verney Junction – out of use since 1936...

None of the F Stock have survived, but L.44 was soon to be preserved, and later restored as Metropolitan No 1.. Two ‘Growler’ electric locos have survived, and two T Stock driving motors have been preserved..

RNLI E Class lifeboat E-006 Joan and Ken Bellamy based at Chiswick Lifeboat Station.

First of many archive photos we will be posting. This was taken in 2003 on the day the Mercedes E320 CDI Avantgarde took over from the Volvo V70 T5 as the Armed Response Vehicle, M33W.

They are seen parked on the old Sports field at Aykley Heads, Police HQ. The Mercedes was brand new, having been driven directly there from the workshops across the road.

Call sign: M33W
