It is very rare to see ambassador's cars parked up without the driver - except for the embassies areas of course. This E-Class is just perfect for a smaller African state.

Back in 2015 this was only my 2nd (or 3rd) Moldovan plate with the new system, which, unfortunately, has cancelled the coding. Something many platespotters can complain about. Moldovan plate are always a nice spot for since the country is rather small and poor, although one in a while a Moldovan car makes it too Berlin. As you can see, I only noticed that plate really late.

The delayed arrival of 'Metropolitan No. 1' into Ealing Broadway heading the first 'District Line 150' shuttle is captured for posterity on the mobile phone of a member of the London Transport Museum staff. Meanwhile, the local 'copper' (actually an actor in coppers clothing) looks on. A couple of ladies in 1879-style dress, a brass band playing al the old hits and a vintage train all combine to create a spectacle to be proud of. Well done to all concerned, and given the one hour plus delay to the first train due to 'technical difficulties' ('Sarah Siddons' lost a shoe when departing the depot) the amassed crowd remained bouyant. A great day, and 'Happy 150th' to the District Line! Copyright Photograph John Whitehouse - all rights reserved

E Class Metropolitan No. 1 slowly passes West Kensington working the Northfields to Moorgate positioning trip for the LT Hammersmith 150 rail tour
It ended being a bit of a gloomy day for some of our drive back north, but at least the yellow headlamps on this Mercedes stood out.
Scan of a slide taken 28/07/90; Similar to the preceding snap, but this time the 'man in the stripy shirt' and LT Battery Loco L44 are in the shot - L44 being the number allocated to 'Met No. 1' in its later years.

I was fairly happy to see this Russian E-Class in Switzerland, although I wouldn't spot the same car in Germany. Back then the E-Class Coupé was pretty hot, too.

A nicer diplomatic plate, one ending in 00, maybe held back for an ambassador. This E-Class is a commong car among diplomats in Berlin, at least.

Introduced in 1976 the Mercedes W123 had a longer wheelbase and larger external dimensions to that of its predecessor the W115 initially all models except the 280/280E featured quad round head lamps with the 280 having large rectangular light units, which become standard after the facelift. All of the W115 engines were carried over with the addition of the 250's 2525 cc engine.Such was the early demand a 12 month waiting list prompted very high nearly new resale values
