I bumped into Ken & Lisa on my way to the mountains of western Montana. Ken (Pictured) is 71, and hauls four panniers, a backpack, and a tent up the 5% inclines of Glacier national park with surprising ease.

To ease his new troop into the western routine, 1st Lieutenant Dirk Allcock’s troop has been assigned a patrol high up in the Blocky Mountain ranges to the North West of Fort Legoredo. The frontier here is relatively peaceful, although life is still hard for the pioneers who populate the wilderness.

The current day KCS Artesia Sub mainline track alignment thru West Point looks like something right out of a model railroad. West Point originally was served by the GM&O, IC, and Columbus and Greenville; but consolidation by ICG following the 1972 merger led to the current zig-zag routing. Coming south into town from Tupelo, it uses the former GM&O (originally Mobile & Ohio) main until just north of downtown. From there, they pick up a few miles of the old IC Aberdeen Branch until CGRR Connection on the southwest side of town. Then a new connection track built by ICG takes the tracks due east, where they pick back up the GM&O main heading to Artesia and Meridian.

Here the nightly Saltillo Turn is easing back south at a leisurely 10 mph on the ICG-built connection track, as the whole distance thru West Point is under yard limits. They've got a healthy train of traffic from Counce, Corinth, and Tupelo in tow on this fine winter morning.

Taken with kind permission on a supervised tour.

Seated one day at the organ, I was weary and ill at ease,

And my fingers wander'd idly over the noisy keys;

I knew not what I was playing, or what I was dreaming then,

But I struck one chord of music like the sound of a great Amen.

It flooded the crimson twilight like the close of an Angel's Psalm,

And it lay on my fever'd spirit with a touch of infinite calm.

It quieted pain and sorrow like love overcoming strife,

It seem'd the harmonious echo from our discordant life.

It link'd all perplexed meanings into one perfect peace

And trembled away into silence as if it were loth to cease;

I have sought, but I seek it vainly, that one lost chord divine,

Which came from the soul of the organ and enter'd into mine.

It may be that Death's bright Angel will speak in that chord again;

It may be that only in Heav'n I shall hear that grand Amen!

Never turn your back to life.

I enjoy taking photos and contemplate on them. I took this simple photo and had some good lessons from it.

Believe it or not, I found out the secret of happiness that a lot of people are desperately looking for.

Always consider the bounties you have. Never think of those you don't.

Nobody has it all in this life. Some people have the money. However they are so sick that they cannot enjoy it.

Some other people may enjoy perfect health but they are sad because they think that money is happiness.

Appreciating what you have and forgetting the things you don't make you happy.

Please contemplate on the following saying of Propjet Muhammed (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him)

On the authority of Abu Abbas Abdullah bin Abbas, one of the companions of the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

One day I was behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) [riding on the same mount] and he said, “O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, then ask Allah [alone]; and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah [alone]. And know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you. And if they were to gather together to harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

Another narration reads: Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. Recognize and acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity, and He will remember you in times of adversity. And know that what has passed you by [and you have failed to attain] was not going to befall you, and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and hardship with ease.

Not a view often seen though I do have others. I remember in the early days hand signalling just beyond this signal, this would be before the points were fully interlocked with the signals. The trains had to be flagged in once the pointwork was clamped - happy days!

Oh what a tangled Web we weave

When first we (cross)dress with ease

We put on hose, and high-heeled shoes

padding and wigs and makeup we use.

We look like women, those who try to pass

We get quizzical looks, and some will ask

What are you doing? Why is it this that you do?

Some of us know. Some don't have a clue.
