An old sign, but there is still a laundry there. I should go in and demand my 25 cent wash and 10 cent dry, as advertised on the sign.

(Hey T, the position of your arms makes her look not fat!)

Closing on 23rd March, these drycleaners hoped it would all be over very soon - that was 7 weeks ago.

This dry cleaners has a wonderful deco frontage and a fabulous sign. I took plenty of shots with a few cams...probably have to get back when the sign is lit up.

Dry Cleaning place manager (cautiously): "What are you doing with my sign?"
Me: "I'm taking a picture of it...getting you publicity."
Manager: "At least you could've waited until it's freshly painted."
Me: "Oh, man...it looks great like this. It's vintage - it's a classic!"
Manager: "What, so it'll be in some gallery in New York?"
Me: "Maybe someday...it'll be in Mulberry Arts Studio in July, though."
Manager: "I don't understand you artist types..."
Me: "That's okay. I don't either."
Be sure to check out the BIG size too.
Most recently, this storefront was a Maytag sales and repair shop. Y'know the old saying about the loneliness of a Maytag repairman whose services were so seldom needed due to the outstanding long life and reliability of Maytag's appliances. Maybe it was all too true.
Before it was a Maytag dealer and service department, it was two storefronts: a photo studio and a dry-cleaner offering one-hour Martinizing.

I totally love that signage! Clifton, New Jersey.
"Cleanliness is next to godliness."
Is that still the case when this stuff is involved in the cleaning process?
They're empty drums behind a dry cleaning establishment. The old one is labeled "Quick drying petroleum solvent - naptha." The label on the newer ones has a much less ominous name - "EcoSolv." But it still has lots of cautionary and warning statements.
this is one of many pictures i took in the Wim van Schaik Museum. It is a private museum of a retired blacksmith who collected about anything you can think of. from the period around 1950. when men were replaced by machinery. of course with my agricultural background, i was mainly interested in the ancient tractors that were displayed there, but the collection was much more wide ranged, equipment of blacksmiths, dentists, hairdressers, tobacco shops, wooden shoe makers, baskethatchers, religion, kitchenequipment, grocery and pharmacy stores, drycleaners and lots and lots more.. its very impressive to see what a single person has collected in his life. the average museum would be jealous!.
