Along the quiet margin where the untamed earth surrenders to the gathering dusk, a solemn stillness descends upon the expanse. Above the shadowed ground, the firmament fractures into a tempest of smoldering ochre and brooding slate, as the last stubborn ember of daybreak’s twin peers through the tangled silhouettes on the horizon. Fragile, earthbound constellations trace a silent course across the gloom, guiding the wandering eye toward a weathered demarcation where time itself seems to hesitate before crossing into the unknown.

There is an unspoken reverence in this fleeting interlude, a suspended breath between the warmth of memory and the chill of the approaching night. The skeletal boughs and dense foliage stand like ancient sentinels along the border, guarding a realm where silence speaks louder than the wind. Once that final, distant spark is swallowed by the advancing obscurity, the threshold closes upon itself, leaving only the echo of a forgotten elegy lingering in the damp evening air.

A highly atmospheric sunset view over a busy waterway, likely a river or harbor near a major city. The sky is dominated by a huge, billowing ** cumulonimbus cloud ** dramatically lit with soft pink and golden hues. Below, dozens of ** cargo ships ** or vessels are anchored in the water, framed by the ** dark silhouette of a bridge ** or railing in the foreground, capturing the industrial beauty of the maritime world at dusk.

the alley leads somewhere. the birds on the wall have already decided where. the one above them all is still in the process of deciding. it has chosen the exact center of everything. the sky has made itself dark to make this as clear as possible. the bicycle is not involved.

Well then! When the Park screws up your campsite reservation, you wind up where you really didn't want to be in the first place, and the weather gods are being fickle, it's not an auspicious start to a trip far from home. I shot this image the day after we arrived and just before the rain started in earnest (I added just a little drama to reflect my mood of the day). We had to pack up again in rain under a big tarp the next morning but after that, the weather gods took pity on us, the sun came out, and we slept under a very chilly clear sky on heated mattresses. Did I mention that having access to electricity while camping is awesome?

Perched above the Highland landscape, Ruthven Barracks stands as a quiet witness to Scotland’s turbulent past.

Built in the early 18th century after the failed Jacobite uprising of 1715, the ruined stone walls overlook roads, fields, and skies that have changed — while history remains etched in place.

The water levels of Lake Ontario are high right now. We saw evidence of that when walking the harbour wall at Port Dalhousie.

When the twilight bruised the sky in hues of tarnished gold and ancient jade, the city on the river ceased to belong to the living, returning instead to the sovereign grace of forgotten tales. Along the bank where the colorful facades leaned together like slumbering courtiers, the water transformed into a heavy, molten mirror, capturing the final, feverish gasp of a dying sun. A solitary spire rose in the distance like a dark sentinel, marking the boundary where the mortal world dissolved into the realm of the unseen. It was in this precise, fleeting hour—when the clouds churned with the restless dreams of giants—that the river whispered its longest-held secrets, and the shadow-laden boats, tethered and silent, seemed to wait for a ghostly crew to steer them toward the edge of the known universe.

For within the heart of this gilded dusk, the town became a labyrinth of enchantment, where every shadowed doorway and dimly lit window guarded some ancient, Gothic slumber. It was said by those who watched from the high stone bridges that the water did not merely reflect the sky, but digested the memories of centuries, turning forgotten sighs and unspoken promises into the amber glow that lingered upon its breast. As the darkness encroached, the cranes and the distant towers ceased to be modern and ancient artifacts, merging instead into a singular, mythic silhouette that guarded the gates of the night. Here, beneath the tapestry of a burning sky and the slow, heavy breathing of the tide, the world was held in an exquisite, terrible suspense, as if a single word whispered into the breeze might break the spell and cause the entire city to vanish into the deep, quiet dark.

Sometimes it feels as if the sky and our thoughts are wrapped in the same shadow. But behind it all, the sun still breathes — gently, quietly. Whispering that it’s here. And that the day will come again.

Mother nature once again showing her power to create calm or stormy seas.

How do you feel when you look at the ocean?

Staring at the ocean actually changes our brain waves' frequency and puts us into a mild meditative state. Listening to the waves activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which makes us more relaxed. In addition, the negative ions in the sea breeze have a mood-boosting effect.

Calm seas evoke feelings of tranquility and peace, while stormy seas can inspire a sense of awe, excitement, or even fear, depending on individual experiences and perspectives
