This is not a joke aimed at the "Dogs on Roofs" group, to which I've contributed this photo, but in this small indigenous village, where I have taken many photos of dogs on rooftops, this is just as common a sight, if not more so, than actual dogs atop the houses. In this case, they are plaster dog "piggy banks," on the roof to dry or to store prior to painting, but they could as easily be other figures. Many people of this town make plaster items of various subjects, from La Virgen de Guadalupe, to Spiderman, - Virgin Mary to Spiderman (in 2014 I saw "minions," as well) - to paint and to be sold throughout the region. I consider them "kitsch," but they are a source of income important to many families, including my cousins there. Michoacan, Mexico, 2012-03-23
I rented a Nikon 85mm f/1.4G lens to experiment with for some portraits. When I got home, Shadow kindly sat for a few frames.

We have finally starting to thaw here in the north, which means two things - there is a lot of mud, and the Red River of the North is flooding. At this point we are at "moderate" flood stage, although by Wednesday we are predicted to be in "major". At this point the crest projection is high, but does not threaten our house. In the meantime, Koko is enjoying all the water!
the dogs and i had a wonderful hike on thursday, my birthday. i couldn't have asked for a better way to spend part of my special day!!
on tuesday, alice had another seizure... her worst so far. this makes six episodes total and it has been exactly one year since the first. what made this one worse was that it lasted several minutes with no signs of it stopping, and she lost some control of her bladder (which has never happened before, and she was quite mortified about when she finally came to. it was really sad). thankfully it happened while we were at work, and we were able to intervene with valium to get the seizure to stop. i could deal with one episode every other month, but can not deal with the fact that she's not coming out of these seizures without valium. if she were to have one while i wasn't with her, she could quite likely seizure to the point of brain damage or death... so now it's time to make a decision about anti-seizure medication. there are so many pros and cons that would take too long for me to post here. i know that she needs to be on something, but i am not really happy with any of the options.
we have exhausted all of the diagnostics available except for the mri and spinal tap, except for an extensive thyroid test. next week we will do that, on the off chance that it's a low thyroid hormone level causing her seizures. it's rare, but it happens. if that comes back clear, then it's on to the meds that she will have to take for the rest of her life... why do bad things always happen to good dogs?

We are back again. And we had a really great time in Canada with only one rainy day in three weeks!
Hugo came back to us as the same best friend he ever was. No problems with three weeks missing, therefore I am so happy about.
Today we spend the afternoon at the beach, I captured him while he was impatiently waiting for his next retrieve.

2018 Road Trip to Tuktoyaktuk, NWT via Dempster Highway and the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway or ITH (Tuk Highway).
I discovered a new field to walk the dogs. Ben loved it because it was a new place to explore...I loved it because we all didn’t get plastered with mud. (Everywhere is very muddy here with melting snow). Win/win. I think this will be our walking area for a few weeks at least. Hurry up spring!

after several weeks of "action june", i thought it would be nice to have a nice smiley face photo in her 52 weeks set. i took this as the sun was getting low in the sky and it seemed to shine right through her silly junedog ears.
These were for the Top Dog Gala in Manhattan raising money for the Animal Medical Center of NYC. This was my craziest cookie order ever - 15 dozen cookies!! They wanted dogs and cats and I did paw prints and bones as well.
There were several moments around 2:00am where I kept repeating to myself "what was I thinking?"
