From Adero Canyon trailhead, down Sonoran Trail and finally up Dixie Mine Trail. We wanted to get all the way to the mine but my knees said “No flippin way!”

Prior to reaching Bryce Canyon, I passed through the Dixie National Forest, and turned right on hwy 63, where I saw this white horse reflecting the warm colors of the morning sunrise under the full moon.

Dixie, who belongs to my brother and sister-in-law, is a beautiful, pampered kitty who whines every time she opens her mouth. She wants nothing to do with any other cat. She cracks me up. (Needless to say, she does no housework; the broom is merely a prop. :) )
Up to London on Saturday with Darren Wilkin.
I was hoping to get this in front of Canary Wharf, but, just as it got there, a container barge went by, between it and me :(

The Dixie Mines are operated by the Engelhard Corporation which is located in Gordon, GA.
Restoring the land to its previous state after mining, if done properly, involves removing the topsoil and keep farming it to keep the soil rich in the nutrients. Then the first level of clay is removed; the clay is important for retaining the moisture that is needed for plant life to flourish, and it is stored for future use. After the mine is exhausted, any disturbances are filled and packed down with waste from mining. The landscape is then reconstructed with that first layer of clay which is brought back, and topped off with the fertile topsoil.
If done properly.
This was the shot from the Dixie Inn that made it worth the barking dog for me. After doing a few lighting tests, I noticed the projection that was occurring on the left side of the building. That ended up becoming the focal point of my mission to photograph this night photographer favorite.

Roy's new toy: The Dixie Chopper -- manufacturer guaranteed to be the world's fastest lawn mower...
(w/r/t/ geo-tagging: the map location that I've used for this photo is a total guess based on the curves in Rt. 14; I could be off by miles for all I know...)
The Dixie Ley Diner. I'd have to guess this place has been around since the heyday of the Dixie Highway (which it's on). I'd love to see a photo of it "back in the day", since that architectural stuff on the roof has me intrigued. I'd bet it had a great neon sign at one time too, judging by the framework up there. ...then again, it could all be wishful thinking. The place must have decent grub, as the parking lot was busy. Oh, and supposedly the place is haunted by the ghost of a husband that shot himself because his wife was cheating, meeting her lover here for lunch. Umm... yeah. Ok.
Meatloaf sounds pretty good right about now though.
Dixie Inn, part of an abandoned motel and service station sandwiched between the old and "new" Highway 58.
Lit by full moon and 3 pops of a red-gel'd flash at various locations inside.
Stopped by the old Dixie Inn near Barstow, California my first night back in the Mojave last week, with much better conditions for shooting than when I visited back in 2011.
Night, 3/4 moon, ambient mercury vapor light, pink-gelled strobe and CTO-gelled X2000 flashlight.
