The Dixie Cups - Chapel of Love

youtu.be/h6axevxj5x0

1964... #1 U S Billboard Hot 100 #1 Canada RPM Top Singles #22 UK Singles Chart.. This idyllic song about wedding joy was written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, who got married the year before they wrote it. Barry wrote the lyrics with marriage on his mind, then Greenwich worked out the chord progression on a piano in their New York City apartment. Barry and Greenwich wrote this song for Phil Spector to produce. It was intended (appropriately) for Darlene Love, and she recorded the first version, with Spector producing as intended. He wasn't happy with this recording, so he tried it with The Ronettes, who a year earlier had their biggest hit with "Be My Baby," written by Barry and Greenwich..

It will be interesting to see just how fast, and in what form, life comes back to this holocaust of Nature.

Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, GB, May 2020

Did a photoshoot with Dixie and her brother recently!

Rare to see these old heads still putting in revenue work by this time… SBD 317214, 11-85, Atlanta, GA, Kodachrome by unknown, Scanned by Brian Bennett, Hunter Richardson Collection.

Standing with her Nikon Z8 securely in hand, Dixie tested the motorized zoom with only half her attention ... soon betrayed by a wide, amused smile.

With every movement of the lens, her burst of laughter answered the mechanical hum.

Nothing posed, nothing rehearsed: just the spontaneous joy of a moment where the photographer almost becomes the subject !

I composed this photograph while hiking the Pine Valley Trail, in Utah's Dixie National Forest. This is a much-admired trail, with great length and a requirement for camping if one seeks to follow it to its end. Unfortunately, we found the path to be treacherously icy in spots, so we were not able to proceed as far as we would have liked. We will return, though, hopefully.

The Dixie National Forest straddles the divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River in southern Utah. Scenery ranges from desert canyon gorges of amber, rose, and sienna to high mountain forests, plateaus, and alpine lakes.

The forest is a part of the world-renowned landscapes of Southern Utah—it provides a backdrop and serves as a gateway to surrounding National Parks and Monuments.

I have heard it said that when traveling in rural U.S., there are two sure signs of a good restaurant:

1. There are lots of trucks in the parking lot, and/or

2. There is an image of an animal on the restaurant sign.

The Dixie Pig, in Abilene, Texas usually has plenty of trucks in the parking lot. I shot this photo after hours. And it definitely meets point number 2 on the list above!

During open hours this diner does a hefty business.

Kodachrome 64 scan. Canon FTb,

One of several old birdhouses sitting on a fence post. The property sits high on Dixie Mountain in Scapoose, Oregon.

She's a little ol' cowgirl from out Texas way

Countin' the nights 'til the fiddler plays

Workin' all week just doin' her thing

She likes punchin' doggies but she loves to swing

And when she hears that backbeat rhythm driftin' through the door

She can't talk, she can't sit still, she can't stay off of that floor.....

Happy Fence Friday!

No, it's not a Southern Bear! Just an old plywood cutout of a black bear. It's another fun shot from a farm on Dixie Mountain in Scapoose, Oregon.

From Adero Canyon trailhead, down Sonoran Trail and finally up Dixie Mine Trail. We wanted to get all the way to the mine but my knees said “No flippin way!”

Not a good hunting dog, because she is gun shy.

My neighbors' dog; they will be moving soon.

A very nice dog!
