[A series of 7 photos] Built circa 1931 or 1935, The Auto Fountain in Elizabeth City, North Carolina was a Tudor Revival-style gas station built for the Colonial Oil Company of Norfolk, Virginia, a distributor for the Pure Oil Company. It's in the nationally recognized style associated with that gasoline. Pure Oil was a major brand, ultimately swallowed up by Union Oil Company of California in 1965. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Oil It's location was at the junction of East Main and Water Streets.

 

With one end flush with the building next door, the end gable roof is a steep pitched blue tile roof. Constructed of brick and originally painted white, the paint has been removed. The surface consists of skintled brick, or brick that projects irregularly from the surface.

There's an arched doorway with a corresponding arched door of nine lights, the top three curved to accommodate the arching. A small metal roof covers the entrance, accessed by slightly elevated steps. The roof matches that of the oriel window. An arched window is on the front facade; on the side facade, there are three windows--two with 8 panes and one with six. I don't know when the service station closed, but it has been used as office space prior to the 1018 time of these photos. The structure is listed in the Elizabeth City Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing building, October 18, 1977 with reference ID #77001007. The tanker, Distributor, moving away from Gravesend Town Pier's pontoon, where it had been moored alongside a tug (refuelling...?)

Built in 1997, I've uploaded several photos of it, dating from 2003, when its superstructure was orange: its clean new(ish) blue livery was welcome on a dreich day. It's now within Tilbury Docks, having made a journey up river to Silvertown.

This is an interesting photo - at least for me anyway. The tanker presumably delivering fuel on this day is a Gough Oils Ltd with a Phillips 66 logo on the back which comes as a bit of a surprise - they had long been associated as a distributor for Gulf. The garage here still exists in the present day as MCD Cars but the pump island was stripped of its last remaining pump in 2011. The pump island is still clearly visible even in 2021.

Let's face it. Trying to deliver presents to billions of households in one night using a flying sleigh (that doesn't even have a windshield!) just isn't practical. Sure, it's possible to use time travel to get all the work done, but that gets complicated since so many other people have time machines these days. Plenty of young yahoos are getting their hands on interdimensional travel. Santa's starting to get older, and so he's beginning to settle for more automated methods. This is the latest technological wonder he's cooked up: The Intercontinental Present Distributor, capable of chucking packages at high speeds through the atmosphere and down onto specified locations. Santa's still trying to work out the kinks (the packages tend to be traveling so fast they create small craters when they land), but he's thinking it could be a viable alternative to driving around all night.

The tanker, Distributor, approaching a berth adjacent to the Port Of London Authority (I don't know what it is...).

I've photographed this ship before, dating back to 2003, but never from its front end, so here you go...still unable to find any detailed info about it other than it was built in 1997. It seems to have spent most of its 'life' on the Thames, and is often to be seen around Gravesend. As far as I know it carries fuel.

Behind it, across the river, is Tilbury landing stage and behind that building in Tilbury Docks. The building behind Distributor (with the little clock tower) is an empty booking hall, for what was a railway station, long since closed. It's been empty an largely unused as long as I've been here: I saw inside it when passing, once, and it was a pretty large empty space but with what looked like a few props for old time movies (the nearby fort sometimes appears in movies) like a horse wagon (no horse) and signs. I've seen hints wome work will be done to bring it back into use but now that the ferry service between Gravesend and Tilbury is gone, I won't be able to pop over and see it...

With the vast majority of Ferrari’s clientele now trending towards the massively popular F1-style transmission, modern Ferraris fitted with a traditional, gated manual transmission were becoming few and far between. In the case of the 599 GTB, only 30 cars worldwide were ordered with manual transmissions, 10 of which were delivered new to Europe.

 

This particular example, finished in traditional Rosso Corsa over a Nero leather interior, is believed to be the last of the 10 European-specification manual transmission 599 GTBs built. It was destined for France and delivered new to its first owner through Charles Pozzi, the French Ferrari distributor based in Paris, and was handed over on 29 May 2009. The car was outfitted with brake callipers in Rosso, Scuderia shields, 20-in. wheels, parking sensors and matching red seat belts.

 

Subsequently having one additional owner in France, the car was imported to Germany and has remained there ever since with one additional registered owner. Driven and enjoyed on a regular basis, the car has been driven under 36.500 km and throughout the course of its life has always been properly and regularly maintained, with the last service being completed by Ferrari Eberlein in February of 2017. Accordingly, it is accompanied by all service invoices and receipts from throughout its life, as well as its original books and tools.

 

Firmly established as a true modern-day collectible, these late-model, manual transmission Ferraris, such as the F430 and 599 GTB, have become highly desirable as they combine world-class performance and technology along with the traditionalism of a manual gearbox. Due to their sheer rarity, just 30 examples built worldwide in the case of the 599 GTB, these cars will surely be desirable for years to come. This particular example has been driven and enjoyed as its makers intended whilst always being serviced at regular intervals. Needless to say, it is ready to take to the open road with its new owner.
