The GUM department store on Red Square in Moscow. / A GUM áruház a Vörös téren Moszkvában.

Pictures from Moscow, Russia in May 2011. I stopped here for one day before continuing my flights to a conference in StPetersburg. In spite of the rain, I managed to visit the Red Square and most of the Kremlin sites in the morning.

Képek Moszkva belvárosában 2011. májusában. Egy napot töltöttem itt, mielőtt továbbrepültem Szentpétervárra egy konferenciára. Az esős idő ellenére sikerült a Vörös teret és a Kreml jelentős részét megnéznem a délelőtti órákban.

GUM (abbreviation of state universal store in Russian) is the main department store in the Kitai-gorod part of Moscow facing Red Square. Called the 'Upper Trading Rows' originally, it was built between 1890 and 1893 by Alexander Pomerantsev (architecture) and Vladimir Shukhov (engineering). By the time of the Russian Revolution of 1917, the building contained some 1,200 stores. After the Revolution, the GUM was nationalised. During the NEP period (1921–28), GUM's stores were used to further Bolshevik goals of rebuilding private enterprise along socialist lines and 'democratizing consumption for workers and peasants nationwide'. GUM continued to be used as a department store until Joseph Stalin converted it into office space in 1928 for the committee in charge of his first Five Year Plan. After reopening as a department store in 1953, the GUM became one of the few stores in the Soviet Union that did not have shortages of consumer goods, and the queues of shoppers were long, often extending entirely across Red Square. At the end of the Soviet era, GUM was privatized, currently owned by the supermarket company Perekryostok and Bosco di Ciliegi, a Russian luxury-goods distributor and boutique operator. It was renamed to keep its old abbreviation, the first word Gosudarstvennyi ('state') has been replaced with Glavnyi ('main'), so that GUM is now an abbreviation for "Main Universal Store". It is about the size of a large North American shopping mall.

With the façade extending for 794 ft (242 m) along the eastern side of Red Square, . The trapezoidal building features an interesting combination of elements of Russian medieval architecture and a steel framework and glass roof, a similar style to the great 19th-century railway stations of London. The glass-roofed design made the building unique at the time of construction. The roof, the diameter of which is 14 meters, looks light, but it was made of more than 50,000 metal pods (weighing about 743 tons, capable of supporting snowfall accumulation), containing over 20,000 panes of glass. The facade is divided into several horizontal tiers, lined with red Finnish granite, Tarusa marble, and limestone. Each arcade is on three levels, linked by walkways of reinforced concrete.

Adam was born to a multi-talented beauty queen Mother and a Father who, in addition to being a US Army Spy and a Counter-Intelligence Special Agent, was also a highly accomplished entrepreneur. Adam was taught at a young age that, in both life and business, loyalty is a requirement for success. He’s had the honor of working directly with his father in several of the family businesses. In fact, this is where he learned crucial entrepreneurial skills and honed his talents with international business strategies and venture capitalism.

Adam earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in International Business and Marketing from the University of Utah. He was hand-picked by the President of the University’s renowned School of Business to compete with dozens of other ambitious nationwide-graduates for the opportunity to secure a lucrative job within a prestigious Fortune 100 company.

Adam‘s hard work and creativity helped him land this job of a lifetime. He obtained incredible business experience there and spent years innovating, improving processes and setting sales records. Although this dream job in Traditional Corporate America was a fun challenge for him, and something he truly enjoyed mastering, Adam’s natural entrepreneurial spirit kept nudging him to do something more significant with his time and talents.

Since 2001, Adam has been involved in the Health and Wellness Industry as a successful Entrepreneur, Broker, Product Developer and Manufacturer of Cosmeceutical products. During his career, he has worked with some of the most recognizable Fortune 500 businesses along with many top international Network Marketing companies. Adam has consistently proven his unique ability to help his clients achieve their goals through creative Distribution-Channel Placement, innovative Product Development and custom Manufacturing. Adam currently owns three profitable businesses.

Admittedly, Adam was not initially a fan of Network Marketing. He did not understand the business model because it was new to him. However, once he learned that the REAL focus of Direct Sales is to help average people get a taste of entrepreneurialism --- with minimal risk and at a low cost --- Adam was absolutely convinced of the potential with Multi-Level Marketing.

Since joining the company as one of the original 11 founding distributors, Adam has discovered that many of his life-goals truly do align perfectly with Network Marketing. Adam enjoys helping others find significance. Adam is most grateful for the complete time-freedom he has with his fantastic wife and five children. It’s my pleasure to introduce you to Adam Paul Green, MXI Corp Ambassador and Multi-Millionaire Earner.

Press coverage from East Touch

After a week of setting up the Travel Photo Cafe promotion in various stores (which I will cover later), I must say a BIG THANK YOU to Moleskine, its distributor and colleagues who helped to pull this off smoothly. Finally, the long awaited Hong Kong and Beijing City Notebook versions are launched, the first 2 Asian cities for many to come. Moleskine enthusiastically rushed to release these two notebooks in order to catch the Beijing Olympic event, which generated a lot of excitement among the locals.

I first received the prototypes of these notebooks a month ago, the feeling was totally different from the time I received Paris/London/New York versions. I immediately flipped through the maps of my own beloved city with excitement despite the fact that I had some negative comments about City Notebooks in general. The Beijing version is quite special, there is an Olympic Game Area insert at the back pocket, which contains 6 pages of maps, 2 pages of street index and 2 pages containing a calendar month which you can mark your own schedule for the game. This is definitely a collectable as they won't include this insert forever :)

The release of these notebooks is just in time to join our Travel Photo Cafe fair held in 4 stores. In collaboration with a local group called DayTauChung (literally translates to "neighborhood worm"), a mini theme called "Digging Up Local Favors" was created. Several Hong Kong notebooks were customized to show some lesser known but highly interesting spots with pictures and routes. We will even hold a small session on 5th July 08 in Times Square to mingle with customers sharing travel tips.

An interesting incident happened during this launch. A customer walked into our Times Square store on 24th June 08 expecting to find the new City Notebooks but couldn't find it. He asked one of the sales floor staffs but she said it wouldn't be available until the Travel Photo Cafe promotion setup, which was 3 days later. While he walked away disappointed he found the notebooks he wanted displayed somewhere with amazing price. HK$108 as supposed to the advertised HK$188! So he grabbed it immediately, just as he pulled out his wallet to pay for it, the staff ran to tell him the correct price. Disappointed and unhappy about the whole incident, he paid for it anyway and went back to send a complaint email to Moleskine and to our office.

In a very short time, Moleskine responded by forwarding this complaint to our distributor, when we received the same complaint from our end, our store manager got in touch with this customer, apologized and arranged a credit to his membership card for other purchases. Turned out the sales floor staff who'd just gotten back from lunch break when the newly arrived stock was shown somewhere she didn't realize. Comparing to my previous customer service work over 10 years ago, the whole incident from start to resolution happened real fast, almost instantaneous and globally coordinated, isn't it amazing? This also shows how Moleskine is in constant alert for customer complaint/satisfaction and I'm very happy with their dedication in this respect.

One more interesting thing about this incident is that the customer was just like me flipping through the maps excited, but he immediately found two spelling mistakes in the Hong Kong City Notebook. On page 12, "Bo Ma Shan" was incorrectly printed as "Bo Ma Chan", while on page 11 "Choi Sai Woo Park" was printed as "Coi Sai Woo Park". I guess Moleskine has already noticed this.

Hint of new Moleskine product: I overheard somewhere that there will be something related to filing from Moleskine. Yes it is still a rumor.

pimpmyi.com/2011/03/01/my-a-jays-four-earphones-review/

The anticipation is finally over. For the past 2 months, I've been excitedly awaiting the arrival of my new earphones.

How I got my a-JAYS Four

Since its announcement, I wanted to get one of these a-JAY Four earphones. I tried buying online. I tried asking the local distributor. I even tried buying direct, all without success.

Finally, I joined Jays' Facebook page to be updated. This was back in October-November 2010. When the Christmas season came, Jays held a poem (or limerick) writing contest, to which I won with this entry:

"the bundled earbuds with the iPhone sound like crap, here's the best replacement to make your ears clap."

The Actual Review

I am not an expert audiophile and my only basis for sound quality are my previous earbuds: the bundled iPhone earphones, and the Urbanears yellow Medis that have since gone yucky mustard.

The a-JAYS Four has the following great points I have observed.

In-ear earphones - My previous earphones are the earbuds type, so this is the first time I'm using an isolator type ear-canalphones. I initially felt uncomfortable when I was trying to plug them in all the way. I have since learned to use them just slightly inserted, resting the body on my external ear. Much more comfortable. The fact that JAYS included L, M, S, XS, XXS sized sleeves also helps make the fit comfy.

Sounds great - I can hear deeper bass and clearer tunes all around. It is hands down better than my previous earphones. Because they are in-ear, noise has been reduced if not eliminated. I usually listen to podcasts. But ever I got the a-JAYS Four, I've been listening to more music. The sound quality is just that amazing.

Flat cable - Tangle free! I've spent much too long untangling my earphones. Even the Urbanears' fabric cable gets tangled in my pocket, so this is a real relief. The cable has a rubbery feel, similar to the standard Apple earphones.

Long cable - I use my earphones with my iMac, which is on a large desk. The length allows me to sit back. In contrast, The standard earphones requires me to sit up closer to my computer.

L-plug - My iPhone is on my pocket most of the time. The L-shape of the plug prevents damage that is a common cause of earphone damage.

Volume Buttons - I missed the volume buttons on the Medis, as it only provided the mic/mute button. It's back on the a-JAYS Four, and it looks much like my iPhone. They're meant for each other.

Warranty - The a-JAYS Four comes with a two year warranty. That's all I need to say about that.

This is a great pair of earphones. But I do have very very minor gripes about it:

Packaging - The package is great, but it's so big and heavy. Ordering it from abroad may attract attention at the post office. Not to mention that shipping may cost higher.

Flat cable - Overall, it is great. But you need to keep it flat even when worn. Just like a seatbelt, you can wear it with the cable twisted, it will just be uncomfortable.

Availability - It's still not available in the Philippines. You'd have to wait or order it from Amazon.

All in all, this is an amazing pair of earphones. I just hope it looks good with the iPhone 5 when that comes out.

** What Are Beer Importers Really Looking For? **

At the Conference Sessions for USATT, held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in March 2016, there was a Panel that comprised of Jim Ryan, SVP of the beer division of Constellation Brands, Giacomo Turone, VP of wine and spirits importer Palm Bay International and Scott Ades, CEO of The Winebow Group.

They were asked questions relevant to the attending audience comprising of retailers, producers, importers, and distributors of alcoholic beverages.

In this video, Producers get solid tips for brands looking for wine importers and distributors in the USA. Please read below, one of the questions that were put forth to the panel and their answers. Also, check out this webinar on How to Presenting your Brands to Wine Importers in the USA.

The Best Way to Pitch a Wine Importer.

Jim Ryan, an SVP with the beer division of Constellation Brands, agrees that a wine doesn’t have to have “big growth” immediately. He tends to think in terms of 3-to-5-year time horizons. For him, the most attractive products to import are ones that are at the high-end, premium segment of the market, since that’s where the most growth is happening right now.
