Publisher: Logan's - The University Store, Athens, Ohio | Curteichcolor by Curt Teich Co., Chicago, Illinois
Publisher/Distributor Notes:
Logan's Bookstore used to be at the corner of Union and Court streets in Athens, Ohio.
Curt Teich emigrated to Chicago in 1895. He had worked as a lithographer in Lobenstein, Germany.
He founded the Curt Teich Company in 1898, concentrating on newspaper and magazine printing. He was an early publisher of postcards, but he didn't begin printing them himself until 1908.
According to MetroPostcard.com, "As his competition dwindled, his sales expanded and his American factories would eventually turn out more postcards than any other in the United States. "
The company was best known for its wide range of advertising and postcards of North America. By the 1920s, it was producing so many postcards with borders that they became recognized as a type dubbed "White Border Cards," creating an "era."
Curt Teich started using offset presses in 1907, but it took a number of years before he had offset presses made to his satisfaction and many more years for him to perfect the method.
His innovations in this printing technique directly led to the production of what we now call "linens" by the early 1930s.
The company aided the war effort during the second world war by also printing many military maps.
Curt Teich eventually turned management of the company over to his son, but he remained active in company operations throughout its history.
Curt Teich died in 1974 and the family business was sold to Regensteiner Publishers who continued to print postcards at the Chicago plant until 1978 when the rights to the company name and processes were sold to the Irish company, John Hinde Ltd. Their California subsidiary now prints postcards under the name John Hinde Curteich, Inc.

In the late 1990's a major sneaker distributor went bottom up and liquidated their gigantic stock. Towards the end. I bought over a dozen pair, at about $8 to 10 a pair. The stock was all mixed up, just boxes of sneakers, all different sizes, men's, women's, children's all in the same box. When I saw a style I liked, I tried it on, and if I could wear it, I bought it. I didn't care if it was a men's or women's style or if it was tight or loose, as long as I felt I could wear it.
This is one of those pairs of sneakers. They had Nike air pods, and were very comfortable. I started wearing them a lot as soon as I got them.
Just a few months after I got them, one air pod went flat. A month or so later the other one did. Now, I'll tell you I actually liked them even more with the flat pods, I thought the "squishy" feeling was nice. I still wore them all the time for some years. Over time the sides of the pods crumbled, no big deal, just a little softer walk.
A few years ago, the outersoles became rock hard. The sole on the left shoe began to crumble away, and both heels snapped off, what was left of the pods wore away quickly. The issue now was that there was a hard plastic section of sole at the arch position that I was walking on. It was very slippery and really weird feeling, as my heels never really hit the ground when walking, they were close to an inch shorter than the middle of the shoe.
Now, I rarely hasten the disintegration of a shoe, I usually let wear take its toll, but I finally pried the hard plastic part off. That made walking more comfortable again.
They still feel unusual as what's left of the heel is well below the front of the sole, and the remains of the front outersole are slowly crumbling/peeling away. Nonetheless, they are watertight, fit comfortably, and are very wearable. Better than some brand new sneakers I have on rainy days.
JBL distributors ensure that all their products are available in retail stores and offer their products to be used for demonstrations. One of the amazing features of JBL is that they are easy to manage.http://www.empirepro.com/brand/6/1
The Stage Door Casino was probably my favorite place to visit on the strip.
The sign says "Hole In the Wall" somewhere, and this place is exactly that. It is not fancy, but it kinda was "The Happiest Place On Earth" as the sign says.

Out and about around Shepparton on a great Spring day. Just caught the driver in time, as he is unclipping the curtains to make a delivery.
Getting a story about your wine brand published in a trade publication is about more than just having a great story. That was the consensus opinion of four wine industry experts – W.R. Tish of Beverage Media Group, David Ransom of The Tasting Panel and The SOMM Journal, Gregg Glaser of Modern Distillery Age, and Felicity Carter of Meininger’s Wine Business International – who recently gathered for a media panel at the 2016 USA Trade Testing Conference.
As Tish points out, it’s important to have your media assets ready at any time. That means, for example, if you have a portfolio of 12 products, you also have a portfolio of high-resolution and low-resolution images of these products. It also helps, he says, to personalize your pitch to the specific publication. If you know what the publication is all about, and if you seem to know the role and position of your wine within a specific category, this is a real advantage. It’s even better, he says, if you can provide people at the winery to talk to, as well as a media-ready images.
Glaser agrees, pointing out that one easy step wine brands can take is to pay more attention to the press release they are sending out. At the very least, he says, invest in an in-house team or agency that can “write a professional press release.” This will ensure that your pitch is not immediately discarded.
But you have to do more than just come up with a great story – you also have to be able to bring some added value to the topic. As Ransom points out, you need to go far beyond just pitching with something like, “I’m a new winery trying to enter the U.S. market” or “My winery has been making wines for decades.” You need to show some new depth to the topic or genre, as well as something that’s new or novel.
Felicity Carter notes that it’s important to show that “you know how the world works.” That means being able to pull out a key trend and show how you are a trend leader. If you can show evidence of being a brand that’s in sync with current events and trends, then people from a media publication will take the time to understand how your brand is put together and why you are trying to enter the U.S. market.
When all these pieces come together at the same time, says Ransom, you’d be surprised at how good the final product can be. He specifically notes the example of St. Francis Winery (in California’s Sonoma County), which worked with his magazine to produce a very content-rich piece that included sidebars about why restaurant owners loved St. Francis wines, and why the family history of the wine mattered so much.
Thus, if you’re reaching out to the media with a pitch, be sure to tailor it to the needs of the publication. That means personalizing it as best as possible, as well as customizing the pitch with enough details and depth to show why you are unique, novel and worthy of media coverage.
