Original image taken in 2023 with bluristic app on iPhone. Textured with DistressedFX sweet gum soft 70% and Bite overlay 80%. In Snapseed added vintage 8 and Frame 19.

As always, a photo each day for 365 days. All shot and edited using Apps on my iPhone 5.

The photo was taken using the camera App ExposerGL for iPhone. The original image can be found below.

First of all I used the app Dynamic Light to edit the image with the Realistic Sky preset. This was to brighten up the overall tone of the picture. Next I used the app ShockMyPic to help make the image a little more painterly. After that I use Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Stirred overlay and Cedar Texture. Finally I used an app called Camera Genius to add a Silver Paint style Picture Frame to the picture.

The original photo was taken while waiting to pick up my daughter from Choir this afternoon. It is an image of the Tower of the Old St Michael's Cathedral in the Cathedral Quarter of Coventry. The Gothic Tower and Spire above make up the main part of the ruins of the Old Cathedral of Coventry. This building was the second of Coventry's three Cathedral's and was changed from it's original role of Parish Church to Cathedral status in 1918. The Cathedral was nearly destroyed during the first Blitz on Coventry, which took place on 14th November 1940. It was the most powerful air raid to have hit any city and lasted for about Nine hours. While the Old Cathedral was bombed quite early on during the air raid, it was the fires that the incendiary bombs started that actually destroyed the building.

Swisharoo and I planned on checking out any nesting birds around the lake, but the gate was closed. So we went down the road and explored the flume and waterworks along the creek.

Thanks go to Raymond Chippa (of the excellent, NEPAFalls web site) for sharing a link to this blog post from the Endless Mountains Experience on my Facebook Timeline.

Looking forward to heading back here to spend a bit more time to figure out more shots...

BEHIND THE SCENES:

My decision to shoot a hard profile was for no other reason than I've always hated my nose. It's big and comes from my Moroccan heritage. As a kid this never sat well with me, especially growing up surrounded by blond haired, blue eyed siblings with cute little up-turned noses! As an adult I am trying to embrace my nose, so I took this shot. And when I take 'me' out of the equation I see an interesting woman. She's stiff, a bit formal looking and I find myself wondering what she's looking at? Or what is she waiting for?

SET-UP / PROCESS:

I used one continuous soft light, a black back-drop, and stood a large suitcase on its end to prop my iPhone in the handle bracket. Kneeling down I used a timer (Slow Shutter Cam) to give myself 5-seconds to get into position.

In post processing I blended a photo I took of a pink shoe-box with my original shot, removed the black background in Image Blender, then used the Glaze App to give the entire image a painterly, old fashioned tone. This process took no more than 10 minutes and the results are not perfect, but not bad since I did all editing on my iPhone.

iPhone photo edited with DistressedFX. We took a 25 mile ride east from the Gideon up to the battlefield. An approaching thunderstorm forced us to take shelter at the park pavilion overlooking the battlefield. This rainbow appears as the storm passed by. After 20 minutes we resumed our ride on wet roads back to SPAC.
