BEHIND THE SCENES:
I hated this one when I first looked at it and almost hit delete. Vanity is an evil thing... so what if I don't like how my jaw looks in the scream?! Thank god I took a step back before I did anything rash. This was another one that just kind of happened organically - no plan or preconceived idea. And the scream was unexpected, I honestly surprised myself with that. It was like someone else took the wheel for a moment. And it was literally a silent scream, no sound left my lips. Creepy stuff I know. I'm weird but the good kind (I think).
Anyway looking at the image now, especially after post processing, I love how hard core it is. To me it represents life. Our lives. I mean, how often do we want to scream? Let loose? Break down barriers, let go of restrictions and run for the hills? Live the way we want to, not the way society expects? Well, for me this pretty much sums up my entire life! This image reminds me that we all have that other person inside us - our true self. The one we often ignore and keep under lock and key so as not to ever seem weird or inappropriate, or god forbid anything other than a 'normal' person. Instead we conform, blend in, and behave accordingly. We do what's expected because it's what we've been taught. So I'm thinking, maybe a good scream is just the release we all need.
SET-UP / PROCESS:
I used one continuous soft light, a black back-drop, and stood a large suitcase on its end to prop my iPhone in the handle bracket. Kneeling down, I used a timer (Slow Shutter Cam) to give myself 5-seconds to get into position, dragging the shutter for 8-seconds.
In post processing I applied a grungy DistressedFX filter and used the Glaze App to soften the edges. Edited entirely on my iPhone.
APPS USED:
Slow Shutter Cam, DistressedFX, Glaze
