iP5s with Hipstamatic (John S, Kodot, XGrizzled). Touched with Snapseed, DistressedFX and Aviary.

As always, a photo each day for 365 days. All shot and edited using Apps on my iPhone 5.

The photo was taken using the camera App Mattebox for iPhone. The original image can be found below.

First of all I used the app Handy Photo to edit the image. The edits were made by cloning away the Litter Bin from the rear of the pathway and a plastic bag from the foreground next to the near bench. Next I used the Oil Paint preset from PhotoToaster on the image, I changed the thick light border from the preset for a more Artsy style dark border. After this I used the App Distressed FX to add extra texture to the image using the Stirred overlay and the Lade Texture. Finally I used the app ShockMyPic to help give the picture a more painted look.

The original photo was taken early this evening in the Lady Herbert's Garden area of Coventry City Centre. The image is mainly of some of the remains of the Old Town Wall of Coventry. This is one part of about Twelve locations around the City where remains can still be found. The Town Wall of Coventry was built over a time spanning nearly 200 years. Beginning in the year 1356 when the first stone was laid by Richard Stoke, the then mayor of Coventry. Most of the work was completed by the year 1400. However because the City was expanding at a rapid rate, re-routing was needed and the Town Wall was finally completed in 1534. Once the Wall and all 12 Gates were operational, Coventry was classed as the best-defended city in England outside of London. The Walls were finally partially demolished on the orders of King Charles II after the restoration of the monarchy following the English Civil War of the 1640s. Also in the image overhead, is the Blue Glass and Steel Bridge that rises in a spiral then spans over the garden area.

The Town Wall Remains are classed as a both a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is number 17 on my list of 19 (Grade I) Listed buildings and number 6 on my list of 10 Scheduled Ancient Monument's in Coventry that I hope to photograph.

I happened to notice this old wooden staircase as I wandered through the courtyard of an art gallery on Royal St. For me it conjures up all sorts of stories of where it might lead and what echoes of the past lie hidden within it's walls...
