Today's picture was taken in Priory Garden's, which is part of the Cathedral Quarter of Coventry City Centre. The view is an image of part of the exposed foundations of the First of Coventry's Three Cathedrals. This is the Cathedral of St. Mary's Priory. The original Cathedral dates back to the time of Lady Godiva and her husband Leofric, Earl of Mercia. They founded a Benedictine monastery on this site in 1043 that was dedicated to St. Mary. About 50 years later Papal authorisation was given for the monastery to become a Priory and Cathedral. The cathedral lasted until the Mid 16th Century, when it was destroyed as part of the Dissolution of the Monasteries during King Henry VIII's reign. St Mary's was the only English cathedral to be destroyed during this time. For nearly 400 years Coventry went without a Cathedral, until in 1918 the parish Church of St Michael became the Second Cathedral in Coventry's history. Part of the ruins of St. Mary's Priory Cathedral (some of which can be seen here) were uncovered in 1856 when the Blue Coat School was rebuilt near to this site. In 1999 as part of the Phoenix Initiative, archaeologists from the Channel 4 TV programme 'Time Team' conducted a dig to help find more remains of the Priory Cathedral. They returned again in 2001 for a second programme to see the progress that was being made. The Priory Remains are classed as a both a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

The photo was taken using the app ExposerGL on my iPhone 6.

First I used the app Snapseed to edit the photo. I cropped and straightened the image, then I added both the Tonal Contrast and Vintage filters. I used the Healing function to delete a small sign near to the wall. Then I increased the saturation, ambiance and warmth. Next I used the app DistressedFX to add the Stirred overlay and the Lade Texture. Finally I used the App AltPhoto to add the Creamy Highlights Colour film and frame.

I took this photo on 4/12/13 but I'm using this as my photo of the day because I'm in an orthopedist's office praying that I didn't break my left foot.

Today's photo was taken early this evening in the Allesley Village area of Coventry. The view is of the Rainbow Inn pub. This Grade II listed building dates back to the 17th Century. It was originally built as a house but was converted to an Ale House in about 1680. It is one of the oldest pubs in Coventry.

The photo was taken using the app Huemore on my iPhone 6.

First I used the app Snapseed to edit the photo. I cropped the image then added the Tonal Contrast filter. I then used the healing feature to delete Three aerials from the roof top. I also boosted the saturation, ambiance and shadows. Next I used the app Painteresque to add a custom version of the Painteresque 2 painterly preset. I then used Mextures to add the Windansea formula by Justin Halbert. After this I used DistressedFX to add the Stirred overlay and the Lade texture. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Clarify preset, the Cross Process FX, a medium dark Vignette. I then added the Canvas texture and the Leather frame.

"Hyangweonjeon" is one of the most photographed buildings in Seoul--this hexagonal pavilion (whose name translates as 'pavilion of far-reaching fragrance) sits on an island on a small lake on the grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace, established in 1392 as the seat of the newly established Joseon Dynasty. In 1895, in the waning days of the monarchy, Empress Myeongseong (also known as Queen Min) was assasinated nearby. The events surrounding her death eventually led to the Japanese Occupation of Korea from 1910-1945. Today, it's one of the most serene spots in central Seoul with its quiet harmony of mountain, pavilion, lotus and maples...(iPhone4)
