20th January 2020

I was going to post this private, but thought some of you might be interested in seeing this large. This photo had a lot of distraction in the background. I was able to make the background look farther away by using the selection brush, inverting the selected area and then applying, under filters, guassian blur. (adobe photoshop)

With all the craziness in the world today, I am so grateful for my family, and the little distractions like #MacroMondays to keep me sane.

Finally, the Warblers have come into town. They have been a cheerful distraction for me these days which is why you haven’t seen me on a Flickr much lately. I have a goal with the common warblers we see and I try to photograph them with different backgrounds than I have before. It means I dress with in my camouflage clothes and hide within the trees and bushes to wait for the birds to come closer. Then I take time to consider the background and try to compose as best as I can. Although I have many misses, I get my walking in every day and I get my meditation in watching quietly in the trees. Often there is a babbling brook nearby. A few times I have had wonderful surprise visits from some birds. This little Pine Warbler was enjoying the sun as much as I was last week. Happy Wing Wednesday!

ROAD DISTRACTION

Just before sunrise I went to Jack in the Box to get large unsweet tea and I'm glad I did! Saw this beauty in the middle of the road and had the catch it.

Some friends took me to a local Nature Reserve a few days ago as a distraction from my life. There were beautiful natural plants as well as a garden they had planted on their property. We brought a picnic lunch and sat at one of their many shaded seating areas. In the garden was this painted fern. I have one in my garden as well but somehow never got motivated to take an image. This one waved to me as if it wanted to be noticed. My friends got me thinking about photography again and I am content to see what else I have neglected in my garden. A little distraction goes a long way.

Severe weather season is here! One of my favorite times of year. A Union Pacific westbound the P-Burg local rumbles up the front range out of tunnel 1; tornado warned super cells and large hail pummel the eastern plains leaving majestic storm light on the Foothills.

I needed a distraction from the 1500-2000 captures I made from my two weeks on the chase of the Big Boy. The severe storms today were a welcome distraction.

You can always find a distraction if you're looking for one.

The key to a great waterfall shot IMHO is isolating the falls from its surrounding distractions, getting great light and using a decent ND filter to make silky, creamy flows across the contrast of the rocks as it pours through. This shot has maybe one of those previous mentioned elements going for it and due to its dog leg left flow maybe not even that, my 1000 ND filter was a screw on and you can only set focus before adding it to the lens which is why I watched it swim on down the river on my very first composition.

Pictured here is Ragged Falls located conveniently in Ragged Fall Provincial park just outside Algonquin Park off Highway 60, after finding a spot in the car park area a rather short well-groomed 1km hike gets you to the top of the falls looking out at the Oxtongue River. This shot involves a little steep slog down over the hill from the falls and a little rock hopping to set up on it but worth it for the perspective, if you are looking for fall colors to frame a shot the best capture is from the top.

I took this on Sept 18, 2021 with my D850 and Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm 1/400s f`5.6 ISO 64 processed in LR, PS +Topaz ,and DXO

Thanks so much for all the support! I really do appreciate it! 😊

This little bird kept tapping on the window during our spring volunteer training meeting. I am not sure what kind it is. Does anyone else have an IDea?

Spendin' all your weekends flyin' up the east coast

Wanderin' 'round the city, tryna shake my ghost

I wonder if she knows

You just can't let me go

You're learnin' a new body, a new face, a new routine

But you know you screwed up and you know she'll never be me

I wonder if she knows

The lengths that you go

Just to call it love, boy

You know it ain't love, boy

We know who you love, boy

So call it what you want

She's your new distraction (Distraction)

Tryna break an old habit (Distraction)

She's your new distraction (Distraction)

And I'm your old habit, yeah (Distraction)

To tell you how you feel about her ain't my place

But I find it strange that everything about you's changed

From the little bit that I know

That's not how it's supposed to go

Just to call it love, boy

You know it ain't love, boy

We know who you love, boy

So call it what you want

She's your new distraction (Distraction)

Tryna break an old habit (Distraction)

She's your new distraction (Distraction)

And I'm your old habit, yeah, yeah

I hope you fall, I hope it's true

I hope it is, I do

But I don't believe it, don't think you do either

So don't pretend like you do (Distraction)

Oh, no, like you do (Distraction)

Oh, like you do, baby

Yeah, you call it love, boy

But you ain't foolin' love, boy

We know who you love

Yeah, she's your new distraction (Distraction)

Tryna break an old habit (Distraction)

She's your new distraction (Distraction)

And I'm your old habit

I hope you fall, I hope it's true

I hope it is, I do

Numbers of this stunning bird are sadly on the decline, so it was nice to see them still doing well locally.

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance

For the break that will make it OK

There's always some reason to feel not good enough

And it's hard at the end of the day

I need some distraction or a beautiful release

Memories seep from my veins

Let me be empty and weightless and maybe

I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the Angel far away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

You're in the arms of the Angel; may you find some comfort here ....
