Leaving New London heading north on I-395. Clouds still as spectacular as in 1896!

I am wondering if people like only flowers, sunsets or processed photos....

Bearded reedling

Distracted like me somewhat and by a local dog walker chatting in a loud voice to another dog walker :-) Amazing how they just seemed oblivious to me laying on the ground with several feeding beardies pinging. Or maybe he was just checking on his mate also hanging on a seedhead behind him :-)

I knew there was a Bald Eagle along the shoreline somewhere, but I was distracted by this cool ice arch... notice that black lump on the far right... there he is! I missed him!

Having a little fun editing with filters... Happy Sliders Sunday

This was originally a full body shot, but her expression, gaze, and ear positioning were too special not to crop in and focus on them. I call these her "flying nun" ears. That will only make sense to those of you old enough to remember. :)

One of the oTentiks we rented on our recent trip was accessed by a roped off pathway that happened to be near a pair of nesting Killdeer. Every time we walked by, one of the parents would demonstrate their ability as master of distraction with a fake injury act to try and lure us away from the chicks. This behavior was usually accompanied by loud and frequent "kill deer" calls to further draw your attention. I didn't know it but apparently, this is how they got their name. Personally, I think the individual that figured this out must have had quite the imagination to think that's what it sounded like.

This happened several times a day and they preformed this ritual tirelessly. Happy Wing Wednesday!

I'm on a video call when this Steller's Jay lands on my deck. So I take a few shots while I'm talking (camera fortunately nearby). That's okay, my grand-daughter understands. Later I was able to turn my Portal around to show her the raccoon that had climbed up on the rail and was eating the seeds I had scattered there. It was the first time she had seen one. Beautiful distractions. I am glad that I don't have to use video calls for work, I'd have to stay away from my windows.

It can be boring waiting for the next dump truck of shingle to arrive.

Today one of my Monarch caterpillars went into the “J” formation which is a prelude to forming a chrysalis. It can take up to 24 hours after he starts to hang before he actually pupates. But when he does, that transformation happens in just under a minute! I was on guard all day watching for this moment so I could capture it with my camera. It still hasn’t happened and it gets quite boring just seeing him hang there. Consequently, I got distracted trying out some multiple exposures in my garden. These Phlox blooms with the bokeh coming through my hedge provided a happy distraction. ( 3 exposures blended in camera) Fingers crossed I can catch the caterpillar as he pupates tomorrow morning!

The water was very high on this particular day and the canoe made it into the this are comfortably and I spotted this beautiful Tri-colored Heron (one of many on this particular outing) perched on these old branches anchored in the mud on Horsepen Bayou. He was fairly comfortable with my presence and so I kept trying to get a better angle on him. This is what I was photographing prior to looking over my shoulder and spotting the Great Blue Heron that I posted yesterday. High water usually means a lack of birds, but there were many to be had on this particular outing.

Mr.Spider has its web in the right spot.

Another great little bird that draws you away from its young by calling out to you.
