In a quiet moment...

Feel your oneness with earth and imagine you have roots grounding in the earth,

while your spirit still soars with the breeze into the vastness of the universe.

Zen is more of an attitude than a belief.

Zen is the peace that arises through the unity of oneself with a wholeness, a being that is of a different nature than oneself.

Zen means being aware of the oneness of oneself with the world and everything in it.

Zen means living in the present and experiencing it through and through.

Zen means being free from the distractions and deceptive conflicts of the material world.

Zen means being in tune with the universal course of things.

Zen is to fully experience the present and to enjoy the fundamental miracle of life itself.

All the leaves are brown . . .

. . yes, and that's wonderful. But here is a little distraction, a reminder of a beautiful spring day in Iceland. Enjoy.

While I was working on the continuation of the peanut saga, many distractions reared their pretty heads, one them being the Jay in the image. So, who am I to refuse such a gift horse and away we went clicking. And I was relatively happy when I looked at the results on the LCD on my camera. Way happier after I viewed the results in Lightroom. There wasn't a single thing that needed tweaking. But of course I did. Who am I not to mess with perfection. Compared to doing the Nuthatch, this one was a breeze. It just simply came unto me and that brings us to Come Unto Me - The Mavericks.

Up early for a sunrise, it was cold - minus 3 C, which is not all that chilly on the temperature scale, but cold enough to leave frost on the tent trailer and have you reach for a pair of gloves. It was also overwhelmingly quiet - no people, no birds, no distractions at all - only a very slight breeze moving the mist over the water.

Hooded Merganser competing with the busy background and reflections... To me The Story in this shot IS the crazy busy background reflecting in the still waters, and less about the bird...sometimes you gotta break the rules...

While slicing and dicing vegetables for tonight's dinner, I found myself distracted by a tiny face. It appeared to be somewhat concerned. Thus I decided Sydney the Shallot should remain a photographic friend instead of being consumed.

While waiting for the Magnolia Warbler to show up, we passed the time away shooting the many Anna's Hummingbirds that were actively flying, feeding, fighting and provided a 'great distraction'...one I'll take any day.

"Music is my best distraction. The lyrics and melody just seem to help ease my mind. But for how long can I ignore this throbbing pain coming from my soul? Barely heard through the music's beats."

P.S. One of the easiest distractions when most are feeling hurt is to escape into music. Personally, it is the second best, after writing. But sometimes instead of really distracting, it helps you remember all the more and just tempts that numb pain from coming to the surface.
