I'm surprised at the breadth of diplays at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. I figured we could hit the Christmas steam up over at the Colorado Rail Road Museum in Golden, I think Eddie said it was December 10th and that sounds early so I checked the CRRM.ORG website. Eddie said they would be running #346 because RGS #20 is not yet back from it's total rebuild that went into extra innings out east. Everyone at the place got three loops. Only those with sharp elbows got rides in #346's cab or the cupola in the caboose. They also do railroad modeling over here but they prefer modeling at a 12 inches to the foot scale. Area and other fans ought to make the trek; take your camera, empty and ready to go! Remember extra clean cards and batteries.
I shot a load of the run bys made by #346 Christmas train and got a lot of captures that may never come to light. I got some extraneous shots before and after run bys. This is one. I can't remember which tender this was. This old D&RG tender stood on display and I decided to show you how much labor, both paid and volunteer, it requires to keep any of this equipment active. #346 in in fact running with #318's tender. If America had not sent all its industrial jobs and power to China on the cheap, this would be a lot easier to simply replace. While it may provide an authentic display, and probably hold coal in the bunker, I suspect loading the tank with water would be a mistake. It probably won't even hold paint much longer. It will probably never be used again. Hell, for all I know, the US probably can't roll this grade of steel. We can make war but not steel. I know a lot of the old gear was never stored properly on disuse. I have heard a can of oil added to a boiler before draining, will coat the boiler and stem the rust.
The last steam up was on the 17th and any new runs are not yet posted on the web site, above. They run the Galloping Goose on Saturdays now. The Galloping Geese hold a place in the hearts of Coloradans for a very special era on the RGS, Rio Grand Southern.

Finally upon opening we had a beautiful roomy window to show passersby our unique costumes. Not to mention out wonderful door coverings.
"The display commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the Spitfire entering RAF service, in 1939, a few months before World War II. It also commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, 6th June 1944, the plane wearing the Allied recognition markings, of white painted stripes on vertical and horizontal surfaces, to help prevent the threat of friendly fire during, and after, the Normandy landings."

I bought this little display cabinet from Cheryl Alexander in Lilburn, Ga at "Antiques In Old Town". Cheryl finds the most wonderful antique pieces. She gave me the pink, rhinestone clock a few months ago as a gift. I bought the other two from her when I was on my shopping spree there last weekend!!!lol
