This group of photos were all taken at Hannah Peschar Sculpture Gardens on a visit on a very hot & humid day in July
This is the classic broken-wing distraction display that Killdeer plovers use to draw attention away from their nests when disturbed. It catches the eye of the intruder, and when the bird is pursued, it gets up, runs in a direction opposite the nest, only to squat and re-display its broken wing distraction. Eventually the potential threat is far enough away from the nest and eggs, and the bird flies away and circles back to the nest area.
From BrickWorld 2011, kinda fell apart at the end, but it did still manage to turn out fairly nice.
It has lights for all of the fire and the windows of the fort. The switch is in the middle palm tree. You can also see my small cottage here. Yay it turned out better after I got home!

A American Avocet Distraction displays
Distraction displays frequently take the form of injury-feigning. However, animals may also imitate the behavior of a small rodent or alternative prey item for the predator; imitate young or nesting behaviors such as brooding (to cause confusion as to the true location of the nest), mimic foraging behaviors away from the nest, or simply draw attention to oneself.

Before Novemeber ends I wanted to take pictures of this month's display. It seems like the theme was Black & Nude. I had a light bulb moment with Veronique as I wanted to add her with the NU.Face girls just to show everyone who's queen! I've always wanted to see Karolin in this nude sweater with trousers. I added these embroidered gloves for extra chicness. A High fashion moment! I love a redhead in nude and I've always imagined Giselle in this Jason Wu Point D'esprit tulle slip dress with Swarovski crystals. Perfect! But here comes Nadja breaking all the rules in a red belted suit. She's not one to fade into the background. But they all look stunning right? I'm obsessed!
No it is not a premature fireworks display.....it is a blown glass display by Dale Chihuly. Beautiful during the day but even nicer here at night when it was lit up. (google him)
Of course the Magnum has already been phased out, these Chargers and Interceptors are the earlier models.
When they first came out, they were big game-changers.

It includes the Chukchi Sea, the Bering Sea, the Bering Strait, the Chukchi and Kamchatka Peninsulas in Russia as well as Alaska in the United States. The area includes land lying on the North American Plate and Siberian land east of the Chersky Range. Historically, it formed a land bridge that was up to 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) wide at its greatest extent and which covered an area as large as British Columbia and Alberta together(1,600,000 square kilometres (620,000 sq mi)). This land bridge connected Asia and North America at various times during the past.

The Red Arrows passing over the rooftops of Ashurst as they come round for another part of their display at Southampton Boat Show. I'm glad I was at my neighbour's with my camera!
Grackles are beautiful and their faces show such personality. Finding this one displaying was another highlight of the day. (I saw a decent number of common grackles over the course of the afternoon.)

In any case, since I didn't have a camera, and film and photo development was expensive, it was many years before I took a photo of the old Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport's departures board.
Sigh! Alas, it's the end of the roll of the film and half the photo was cut off. The photo-finishing shop didn't even print this photo. Fast forward 30 years and I discovered the negative again! Now with a scanner, for the first time I'm seeing this photo!!
