Shortly before 5am the Torrington Fire Department was dispatch for a possible structure fire in the Stone Container Factory. They arrived to find a large factory building which currently housed the Daley Moving and Storage Company with heavy fire throughout. Mutual aid from Litchfield, Winsted, Thomaston, and Harwinton responded to assist the Torrington professionals and volunteers with additional manpower, aerial ladders, additional engines, and an air cascade truck. They not only assisted on the fire scene but had to respond as coverage for several smaller incidents which occurred while the Torrington crews were committed to the factory fire. Because of the heavy fire and collapse of the roof and partial collapse of the walls the fire was for the most part an external and defensive operation. Several small fire from extension to the exposure buildings were quickly extinguished during the battle to contain the fire in the origin building. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office. Officials were also concerned about possible asbestos contamination of the area as a result of the blaze and building collapse but the chances of release is said to be minimal.

Just before 7:30 this evening Southbury Volunteers were dispatched to 79 Dublin Rd for a possible structure fire. The police unit that was first to arrive on scene reported that the rear of the structure was engulfed in flames and that all occupants were out of the house. A second alarm was immediately sounded and a request for mutual aid for station coverage was requested from Woodbury. As Engine 4 laid the long driveway Engine 9 laid in a 5 inch supply line from the hydrant on Old Waterbury Rd. The crews stretched out lines as other members worked to save several of the home's pet cats who were overcome by the smoke and eventually would succumb to their injuries.
The main body of fire was in the two bay garage which had a dormer which was currently under renovation. It would eventually spread into the attic space of the "L" shaped ranch section of the house which the crews were able to contain in a short amount of time. The fire in the garage section would eventually lead to the collapse of it's roof and the "A" side of the structure.
The situation was brought under control after approximately an hour and 45 minutes but the crews would be on scene well into the night hosing down hot spots. Other than the family pets no other injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze is under investigation by the town's Fire Marshal.
