BNSF dispatched a Snow Dozer from Superior to Kelly Lake using two GP60Ms for power following a decent dump of snow in the area. It made quite the sight coming under the Highway 23 overpass at Wrenshall, MN

Clearly seen is the tomial tooth, used to dispatch their victims, by severing the spinal cord. Also note the cones in their nostrils used to diffuse the air velocity in high speed stoops.

After dispatching the assassin squad, Cold Steel returns his blade to its sheath and surveys the scene for innocents who may be in need of assistance.

I'm back on the Moray Firth and a storm is blowing. It's awesome. Nuff said. Cullen Bay in Morayshire, Scotland.

GB&W C424 (314) leads the northbound local from Plover over the WCL crossing at Wood Street (WCL depot/operating HQ in background.) This is another view showing the manual interlocking at the "west" (eventually the "north") end of the WC's Stevens Point yard. The dispatcher who controlled it sat in the office on the second floor at the opposite end of that building - known to some as WC's "galactic headquarters" to differentiate the operational HQ from the corporate one in Rosemont, Illinois. If a train departed from the yard (coming at the camera in this view) and encountered a red signal here, often the rulebook four blasts of the whistle would result in a cleared signal at "Stevens Point West", and such clear signal would be acknowledged properly with two short toots. If the DS wasn't occupied with urgent matters at his desk (and he/she often was as things got busier and busier), a turn and wave from the DS through the window confirmed the highball and the crew was on its way to join the fray on the mainline...or, as I often said in the spirit of Jethro Tull's song, "Bungle in the Jungle."

A captive bird this time around, but magnificent nonetheless. Dispatching a lunch snack chick on this occasion.

The SSE is considered to be (on average) the heaviest eagle in the world, weighing in at up to 9Kg.

Due to excessive amount of work days this week, it will be "Grab-a-Box" week. This one from May of 2002. First up is a daylight Susquehanna SU-99 accelerating through CP Hall at Campbell Hall, NY after clearing the Hudson Seconday.

Passengers and Dispatcher alike monitor progress of their train, a class 221 Super Voyager, as it approaches Crewe station.

It's Avanti's 11.10am London Euston - Chester service (1D85), which not only arrives bang on schedule but eventually reaches Chester on time too. Great Expectations, at least regards timekeeping, would appear to have been met on this occasion!

Refuse chute (no longer used) on an upper floor of Keeling House, a modernist apartment block in Bethnal Green, East London. Designed by Denys Lasdun and completed in 1957.

Slow shutter speed image taken with a 50mm f1.4 G Nikkor lens and the Nikon D500.

Started editing with Topaz Denoise on standard mode (auto), then dialled back the sharpening a bit. Next, I applied tone and colour editing in Lr and PS, cloned in some background elements and added vignetting in Lr. Finally I went back into PS and applied HDR tonemapping with Nik software, then added a subtle oil paint filter to gain a bit of texture.

Backdrop:GLOWMAGIC!

K182 blasts through Homestead just a few miles into it's trip from Demmler, PA to Gary, IN. Fortunately the dispatcher ran an empty hopper train through the single track section first allowing another 30 mins for the light to come round. Thanks to JJ for HU.

After making a setout at Gilman, the eastbound M train heads east to Hoosier Lift. Unfortunate for the people of town, and Amtrak, the town and diamond were blocked for about half an hour while they worked.

Unfortunately the dispatcher didn’t realize they had about half an hour of work to do. Skill issue.

Due to the extremely low reliability of the RS1 series from the Kempten depot, the trouble-prone rail buses were to be replaced by the 642 series at the end of October. However, sine these normally replace the PESA LINKs in the Außerfern, three additional units had been borrowed from another depots. Besides 642.077 and 213, 642.125, which belongs to the depot Schöllkrippen and is used to be run on the so-called Kahlgrundbahn between Hanau and Schöllkrippen, were also in duty around Kempten. While 642.077 and 213 were dispatched straight to the line Günzburg - Mindelheim, 642.125 were mostly used on between Kempten and Pfronten. On the very first day in November, this set is about the reach Nesselwang.

As of December, the Polish-built PESA LINK units are said to take over the operation on this section. Well, considering their low reliability, I am already wondering how long it takes until the Desiros return to the line for the umpteenth time...

Well not quite..........

Exeter Central's Dispatcher has just seen off GWR's Sprinter unit 150265 working the 9.55pm to Exeter St Davids (2E57) station, about a half a mile down the hill. The unit had arrived into platform 3 a few minutes earlier from Barnstaple, at which time it became an empty stock working (5E57) as it transferred from platform 3 to platform 2.

With the 9.,55pm terminating at St David's the temptation is to think it will then head for the stabling point for a night's rest. Apparently not - it then becomes the 10.31pm to Exmouth (2F51), so once again passing through Central station.

There's still a couple of hours of work left for the Dispatcher too - the last scheduled train on this day is the late evening Waterloo - Exeter St David's, due off at 11.58pm. With luck it will be 'locked doors' around midnight!

This westbound Union Pacific intermodal train has just stalled on a 2.2% grade near Oxman, Oregon. The Chicago & North Western GE in the lead has failed. One of the trailing EMDs previously shut down. There is a Z train behind this job, and Amtrak 26 has departed Baker City. Things are looking grim in the short term.

WW2 Matchless dispatch motorcycle seen at Hooton RAF base for their 1940's weekend

Since 1854 the station of Semmering was of course staffed with a local dispatcher, who controlled the traffic of the mountain route. Such was the case and traffic routine for 166 years ... But tonight with the timetable change 2021 the legendary mountain route now becomes completely remote-controlled from the operation center in Vienna ...

To honor this historical moment, I asked the last dispatcher the day before his final shift for a portrait in front of the beautiful "Ghega" monument, dedicated in 1869 to the glorious architect of the first Mountain Railway "Carl Ritter from Ghega" ...

The smart old Railwayman served at Semmering for the last 17 years and still wears his very first original red dispatcher cap proudly since he started his career in 1982. The final 2 years to his retirement he will serve at another location. Thus Semmering station remains now abandoned, likely 8 years before trains will pass it deep below in a 27 km long tunnel ...

Please compare the portrait with the wonderful, linked photograph from 1904, presenting the monument at the 50 year jubilee with a superb parade of old veteran technicians, engineers and railwaymen, who were involved masterminds in the construction works and early days of 1854 ...

New York Navy Yard dispatch boat Sanda underway at full speed on August 2, 1917. My restoration and partial digital hand colorization of the original B/W image in the National Archives Catalog.

Thanks to dispatcher Mike, I was able to grab a shot of these guys in Appleton after a meet and a runaround back at Benson. An extra special treat was a solid lash of BN green.

Even after an entire day of sunshine, seconds after this photo, conditions were reduced to EOS, most likely for the remainder of the day.
