Each of those slips is a person or group of people looking for a taxi. He has them arranged mnemonically, probably roughly geographically, so that he can efficiently read them out to the taxi drivers and so that he can easily recognize fares that have similar routes and can perhaps be combined.
We have had a wonderful week here this week. We are having a featured story in our local newspaper and our two radio stations focusing on National Public Safety Telecommunicators week and the difference they make in our communities. Sending some pictures from our celebrations, thanks for all that you do in APCO to promote the field as a profession and for establishing this week to honor our great folks at the consoles.
In addition to the celebration of this success story our Administration met with the Full-time Staff today and informed them they will all be receiving a much needed and long overdue Salary increase. This was purely coincidence on the part of Administration; but a nice way to add to the festivities of the week.

Dispatchers were presented proclamations from the State of Mass House of Representatives and the City of Gardner for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and honoring our dispatchers. It was a nice afternoon! Also the Chief, Neil Erickson and myself Disp. Supervisor Laurie Favreau gave gifts of new jerseys to all staff to wear one day of dispatch week. The shirts said “Thanks for taking our calls” 911 – Dispatch Appreciation Week April 2007
The dispatchers were allowed to wear jeans all week and wear their new shirts on Friday/Sat or Sun. They liked that most of all!! No uniform!
A telecommunicator could sit here, arrange the screens to their liking, receive 911 calls, and dispatch police/fire.

Firefighters from Thorold Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched shortly before 3 p.m. for reports of a structure fire at the a regional recycling facility warehouse located in the 1700 block of Allanport Road. Initial reports were a fire had started in a warehouse building that stored cardboard and other recyclable materials; and despite an employee's best efforts to use a fire extinguisher, the fire had spread. When fire crews arrived on scene they had heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure with the rear being heavily-involved. Mutual aid tanker assistance was requested from Pelham, Niagara Falls, and Welland FDs to help shuttle water to the scene. Firefighters spent nearly 24 hours on scene, as the piles of cardboard had to be pulled apart and soaked down.
Residents surrounding the area were asked to shelter-in-place as winds continued to cause issues with drifting smoke. There were no reported injuries to civilians or first responders. A cause and damage estimate were not immediately available.
