The 2016 WIDER Annual Lecture by Martin Ravallion was held on Wednesday 23 March 2016 at Stockholm School of Economics. The event was organized in collaboration with the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE).
During the WIDER Annual Lecture he will discuss the economic and political issues of the use of direct interventions, such as cash transfers and in kind contributions, against poverty. There is much hope for these interventions, but also much frustration; their performance in reality has often fallen short of policy makers’ expectations. The lecture will review the evidence on both the successes and failures, based on the many impact evaluations that have been done over the last 15 years.

Why in Mexico City?
It became the first capital which I visited in America, the highest city I ever visited and my first American civilization which I’m planning to explore more close. It was my dream since my childhood to investigate Aztecs civilization and this desire became stronger after reading some books with new versions about American ancient civilizations. Besides that I liked an American epic action-adventure film directed by Mel Gibson “Apocalipto”.
And the last reason: it is summer here when winter is in Moscow, but in January it isn't very hot.

December 1/2012 A series of portraiture shots of my friend. Full title: A gift today. She has sensed me for more than two moons and as I step out of hiding and reveal myself, Forestgurl did not flee. Instead she approached and gave me Direct Acknowledgement; something for which her species is not known. I admit I will miss her. This is where Sciencounter meets Emoshun. I have become too attached to my subject to be of further use here.
Directed by Jack Winget, a joyfully restorative tale set amongst the wine, wisteria and Mediterranean sunshine. Longing to get away from the malaise of post-WWI London and the stasis of their respective marriages, housewives Lotty and Rose are enticed by an ad in the paper that reads, "Small castle on the Mediterranean, Northern Italy. To be let for April. Cook, gardens, ocean view." Impulsively, they rent the Italian villa, recruit two very different English women to share the cost and plan their escape. All four women dive into the experience of a lifetime, shed inhibitions and blossom anew - rediscovering themselves in ways they could never have imagined.

Edythe Kirchmaier's 107th birthday celebration at Direct Relief headquarters in Santa Barbara. Edythe has been a Direct Relief’s volunteer for 40 years. Born January 22, 1908, Edythe’s been serving others nearly her entire life.
