Our outside temperatures are dropping each night, and little squirrel needed to have a snack before crawling into his little nest for the long cold night ahead.

(Doc had just refilled little squirrel's feeder jar with peanuts, and he loves his peanuts.)

Even the road to our remote landfill looks pretty in winter, when the trees are cloaked in hoar frost.

I captured this image mid-morning. The sun sits low on the southern horizon most of the day now, creating very long shadows that all point north.

Way back in the year of 1896. Skookum Jim, Tagish Charlie, and George Washington Carmack, found gold in the Klondike, a discovery that started the Klondike Gold Rush.

Throughout the world, adventurers and fortune-seekers travelled often by poorly constructed boats, or they walked, as they sought their fortunes in the far north.

Many would die EnRoute - and indeed, many would perish here at Miles Canyon because they knew nothing about boat building, navigation, or swimming.

Doc and I have visited the area on several occasions, and we marvel at the history, and the beauty that surrounds us. It is definitely a "must see" on your way north.

After losing some sleep because of the time change, I needed something to wake me up. So I took the park's garden to Topaz Studio 2 where I added an abstract filter, plus I increased the vibrancy and saturation of the colours. Let's hear it for Sliders Sunday! HSS!

A gray whale waves farewell with its tail, signalling the beginning of a deep dive along the coastline of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska.

(Altered Reallity - The whale was photographed 30 minutes later with only the ocean as a background... it would have been so much more scenic if it had been seen here!)

Just tap on your keyboard's right arrow to see this image without "snow." As you can see, I managed to keep my camera warm and dry while producing this image. :D The original photo was taken during the heat of summer.

To create the snow effect, I used a technique taught by Unmesh Dinda of PixImperfect fame (his videos on Photoshop are simply amazing). My attempt turned out better than I expected. You can see his masking technique illustrated at www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeWcNsw-KRw. (He doesn't demonstrate how to create the snow effect, but it equally applies.) I also darkened the image and painted the tops of the railings and posts white to simulate frost and snow.

I keep having wild deer encounters and either not having a camera, not enough light, or the angle, or line of sight is impossible. So today I took the shot anyway, figuring I might be able to make something of it when I got home.

This image was created in Picassa, layered - you can see the starting image below, I think. I layered it with a shot of backlit bracken and a texture layer of my own

Slightly altered to simulate a vacuum... October colors disappearing into the monochrome November.

The sun was rising to the east - the moon was setting to the south, and fog was rolling in over my backyard. That is how the first day of spring greeted me this morning.

When daylight is in short supply - Alaskans are happy to see the dramatic colors that sweep across our skies at sunrise and sunset. This sketch shows what it looked like at 10:21 AM, just to the east of our cabin. Happily we are gaining over five and a half minutes of day light each day.

Just I, myself and me.

Myself ate up the sandwiches,
