July 2019 - Gnome model process
This is several hours into the digital design process for the #LEGO #gnome gift model. We use proprietary #brickbuilding software for our #legoland model creation and I had challenged myself on this particular model to design it completely digitally with no physical prototyping, which is what I expected of my @merlinmagicmaking LEGO design team.
I hadn’t decided yet at this point how pointy the ears would be coming out of the female gnome’s hair and you can see the options on either side of this draft.

What happens when you mix a roomful of artists, giant pieces of paper, and a crazy theme? If you’re Interactive Technologist and Instructor Christopher Quine, you turn those ingredients into Vancouver’s only bi-monthly drawing party. At Draw By Night, artists can work collaboratively on pieces, or by themselves on their own section. The only emphasis is on getting everyone drawing. Participants are encouraged to use Twitter or other social media to discuss the event and post pictures, allowing real-time engagement with the drawing community. They can also post ideas and comments that are often integrated into the next event.

At VFS Digital Design, we teach agile project management practices throughout the entire year. And what better way to refresh everyone's recollection of the 9 knowledge areas (scope, time, cost, human resources, procurement, risk, quality, communication and integration) than with a game!
The students were divided into four teams and briefed on a project they had just "won”. Using index cards and post-it notes the students were asked to record the goals, objectives, work breakdown structure including time allotted for major tasks, resources, and the risks of their respective projects and post them on the wall.

Set Based: 7018 Viking Ship challenges the Midgard Serpent
---
I didn't want to spend much time building a leviathan or choose another set, so the entire build is somewhat "micro-scaled". The Serpent isn't suppose to be bigger than the Vikings ship, but I wanted to show more intimidation.

Niflheim (or Niflheimr) ("Mist Home", the "Abode of Mist" or "Mist World"[citation needed], or probably world of the darkness according to the Oxford English Dictionary[1]) is one of the Nine Worlds and is a location in Norse mythology which sometimes overlaps with the notions of Niflhel and Hel. The name Niflheimr only appears in two extant sources: Gylfaginning and the much-debated Hrafnagaldr Óðins.
Niflheim was primarily a realm of primordial ice and cold, with the frozen rivers of Élivágar and the well of Hvergelmir, from which come all the rivers.[2] According to Gylfaginning, Niflheim was one of the two primordial realms, the other one being Muspelheim, the realm of fire. Between these two realms of cold and heat, creation began when its waters mixed with the heat of Muspelheim to form a "creating steam". Later, it became the abode of Hel, a goddess daughter of Loki, and the afterlife for her subjects, those who did not die a heroic or notable death.

As the son of an architect I was always encouraged to look closely at the structures around me and, as such, love me a bit of old school architectural detail. The kind of thing that they generally don't bother with these days. Like a good bit of stonemasonry. This pair of stone griffins (if that is what they are) holding court over an urn full of fruit caught my attention. How couldn't they? What exactly are they discussing?
Such things should be celebrated so I'll always take a picture of elements that I like in case they should prove useful further down the line. After a little time on the backburner they've now got a new lease of life - currently just as a digital design with an 80's 3D treatment but also a potential wall concept that will hopefully be realised in time.
Cheers
