THORNWICK Bay...(pronounced Thornick... welcome to Yorkshire, lol)

Thornwick Bay derives it's name from "Thor" the God of Thunder because of the roar of the breaking waves on the rocks during a North Easterly gale which pounds the magnificent cliffs.

In the winter when the winds are strong and the weather is bad, when the waves hit the rocks, foam and spray blows up the cliff and over the cafe, but thankfully most people come to visit in the Spring, Summer and Autumn months when the weather is much calmer, and people can sit on the cliff top and admire the fantastic scenery and watch the sun reflect off the brilliant white chalk cliffs which have been cleaned by the winter storms over thousands of years.

The stretch of water North of the Lighthouse was named 'the graveyard' by the skippers and crew of sailing vessels which once they had lost the safety of Bridlington Bay, and without the aids of navigation and weather forecasting which we now take for granted, were at the mercy of the angry weather, Marine charts show hundreds of wrecks all within a few miles radius of Thornwick bay.

A great many people visit Thornwick Bay each year to enjoy wonderful cliff top walks observing the abundance of seabirds including Puffins, Guillemots and Kittiwakes etc.

Always you have the 'risk-takers' who will venture and walk the very narrow and crumbly ridge to get to the furthest point.

Do you spot this one?

Have a lovely day and thank you, as always, M, (*_*)

Fighting about politics on Inauguration Eve, near the White House

This the best foundation garment I've found to make a difference. I've had mine let out at the hips (I want my bum to be bigger not smaller!) and has six buttons with buttonholes made to connect my Rago longline bra to the girdle to avoid ride up (once called corset govenors). The girdle, bra overlap of about 5", almost makes my tummy dissapear! The narrow bottom ensures one is alway aware of the slight constriction and stride control. My mistress of long ago, insisted on proper foundations (laced garments then) with no days off (one in wash, one in the drawer and one on, the cost was considerable but Madame insisted me buying them. As Madame said "you'll thank me later" and She was right! Madame was adamant. Her maid must be properly presented at all times. Madame imposed the high waisted, longline combination early in my training and it took a long time to get used to and become "girdle dependent". Can you image long days of housework in garments so designed to constrict?

In the amount of traffic in two locations. This is the Norfolk Southern Crescent Line in Laurel, MS. It's the same line I fan in Greensboro, NC. Greensboro gets a LOT more traffic... but I liked Laurel and will go back again. : )

A new tag game, a beautiful and funny idea by CooperSky

This is two games in one. You can of course just play one of them, or if you like, both.

The TAG Game rules: Take a photo of "stuff". Then remove, add or replace some of the things. Take a new photo and put them together like above, or in separate windows. Don't forget to tag me so I don't miss out. I love to play!

There are four species of nuthatches in North America. Only two are wide spread: this species and the Red-breasted. The Pygmy is strictly a western bird and the Brown-headed is restricted to the east. This is the most viewed Nuthatch up here, although Pygmies are also regular. It often visits our created bird oasis. While pros can sometimes determine Nuthatch sexes in the field, the color intensity differences are very subtle, and they probably need ideal lighting. (I believe this one to be male.)

This pic shows the difference between this Anhinga's straight as a pin beak and that of a Cormorant, a very similar water bird. The Cormorant has blue eyes, too, and the Anhinga's are red.

This female was photographed at Reed Canal Park, and was in a very advanced stage of molting when I saw her. The poor thing looked as if a dog had gotten a hold of her wings! I researched it and found that when they molt, they lose all their feathers at one time, making it impossible for them to fly. It's a very vulnerable time for these birds, and they sure look funny while it's going on! I have other photos of her in my Reed Canal Park and Its Wildlife album, and will be posting a few more eventually, too.

Tomorrow the Creations for Charity shop will go online. As every year I will put up some of my MOCs – and should any of you want my work on display at home, please consider making a purchase or two. By doing so you will make a difference to underprivileged children all around the world.

Since one Mech will only make a small impact I will put up all future Mech Monday mechs until C4C ends its submission period.

I am also not opposed to putting up any of the mechs that I built in this last year as most of them are still intact. Should you be interested in any of them, please reach out and we can discuss details!

Mech Monday is an ongoing project started by Marin and I with the aim to build and post 52 mechs each in 2019 – one every Monday.

Come join the fun by posting a mech, robot or drone on a Monday. Any Monday. Find everyone's builds so far in the Mech Monday flickr group.

If you want a challenge or need inspiration, next week we'll be doing "Team".

Hay uno de ellos que esta elegido. Puede ser solo una coincidencia.

ā€œWe are all equal in the fact that we are all different. We are all the same in the fact that we will never be the same. We are united by the reality that all colours and all cultures are distinct & individual. We are harmonious in the reality that we are all held to this earth by the same gravity. We don't share blood, but we share the air that keeps us alive. I will not blind myself and say that my black brother is not different from me. I will not blind myself and say that my brown sister is not different from me. But my black brother is he as much as I am me. But my brown sister is she as much as I am me.ā€

OK, I'm typing right now, Saturday morning July 24. 2021 and thinking too, so that makes for slower typing. I tried to learn the difference between thistle and distal. Memory failure! It wasn't distal, that was different. It was teasel. So now I figured out the two words that are different; but I have yet to completely grasp the differences. It would help if I knew what a bract was. I don't. So, since this is primarily a cartoon type of exchange between 2 fenceposts, I'm not going to worry about total accuracy right now. I'm pretty sure some of my Flickr friends will enlighten me later.

STORY part is between the rows of asterisks.

The post on the right is saying, "We could just be friends. Whatcha think?'

The left post says, "Yeah, but you have a pretty good face and I don't."

RP (that's Right Post) says, "I'm not as real as I look. None of my facial features, are actually on my face. My eyes and nose are really just shadows from thistles or teasels. The shadows don't even exist all day long, and I'm guessing not at all at night. But if my eyes were real, I'd probably get scared and close them at night anyway."

LP (that's Left Post) says, "Something in common we have is both of us have eyes that are on a slant across our head. We probably wouldn't win any beauty contests. My eyes are different than yours, though. Mine are formed by knotholes in my body, not shadows. Your shadow nose is different than mine too. Mine is much larger but not as definitive, and it was formed by wildfire scarring. Neither of us can probably smell much anyway, so what difference does it make if our noses are different?"

RP: My mouth is formed by the front section of tightly clamped barbed wire. It just looks like my mouth. Yours looks different than mine.

LP: Yours just looks sort of straight across, like you just don't have much to say right then. Mine is also barbed wire, but much more loose and hanging down. It makes it look as if I'm frowning and sad, but I'm not.

RP: I think we're both actually kind of happy to get to know each other better, and have we more in common than not. Let's be friends!

LP: Yes, let's!

Nesting site of a pair of White-breasted Nuthatch. A beak full of hair from a deer carcass. After working several hours the two had an obvious difference of opinion as to just how much hair was needed. One carried it in and the other carried it out!

The photo was not particularly crisp as shot so applied a little "topaz glow" for effect.

The rain was well-timed in that it passed overnight and once some minimal fog burned off it was another day of abundant sunshine. The radio was relatively quiet as I made my way across town and there didn't seem to be anything happening on the hill, nor at the south end of the yard. At the north end however, was 357 parked on the mainline for a crew change. Despite the all too common GEVO up front it was going in the right direction and I had some summer morning northbound shots in mind.

I've mentioned the trees taking over at the places I revisited but nothing compared to the forest that has sprung up at Van Dyne. Van Dyne had been the go-to place for elevated views where you could include the two mainlines, sometimes two trains, or nice sweeping panoramas looking east towards Lake Winnebago. Now I had to pick my spot and carefully time my shot according to gaps in the tree shadows. 357 is coming up the "SOO side" and the side track has been lifted. The "CNW side" is now Main 2 and obscured by the trees at left. July 21, 2024.

C. --- Have you been on the internet lately? [she says as she open's up her laptop]

R. --- No! Ever since I found out everyone thinks I'm "Bangs" I...

C. ---"Bangs"?

R. --- Yeah, that's her name now... But ever since I found out people think she's me I just could not bare to read their stupid comments. I heard they were on there saying things like...

C. --- [she reads from the internet...] "She's never looked better"...

R. --- Yeah and...

C. --- "Those bangs really cover up her massive forehead, she should have cut them back when she was on LITDH"

R. --- They're so stupid! We don't even look anything alike.

C. --- [she looks at her with side eyes and says...] Really?

R. --- We barely share a passing resemblance.

C. --- If I didn't know the truth I'd think Rachel was....

R. --- Who?

C. --- "Bangs"...If I didn't know the truth I'd think "Bangs" was your twin.

R. --- Well thankfully you know the truth! And soon the rest of the world will too.

C. --- How?... When?... What did you do?

R. --- I simply had a nice chat with Valerie when she was at F2K yesterday and I explained the whole situation to her.

C. --- Really?... What did you say?

R. --- I just told Val that "Bangs" and I were two different people... And then I told her that she's a nobody who's brother is a former con artist... And that she probably had her plastic molded to look like me because she's some crazed super-fan.

C. --- Quell!

R. --- What? It's all true!

C. --- That is not all true... [she thinks to herself for a second] Well, some of it's true but...

R. --- But nothing... It's all going to be in Val's next V. Blast!

C. --- And when's that gonna be?

R. --- It'll probably be up by the time we get to Drew's apartment....

A big difference...I was 'chorus' in school and never learned to play an instrument...something i regret to this day... I had both kids in band as soon as they could; one played the violin and the other played the flute.

My 365 shot for today was MUSIC, so i took out instruments and played in the light coming in my window. The one I posted was B & W but I was fascinated by the warm browns.

...the age difference between my grandma and Eli.

It was my gran's birthday today and I took Megan and Eli over to her flat for lunch. I think it is so wonderful for Megan and Eli to have a close relationship with their great-grandma, and I'm so pleased to be able to give my lovely gran so much pleasure by involving her in their lives.
