Similarities and Differences,
Same perfume, same smell.
Perspective makes a huge difference in photography and I can think of few birds that illustrate it better than the Black-necked Stilt. Those crazy long, thin legs are pretty neat looking and nothing I know of shows them off better than getting nice and low; they really do look like stilts! This individual was watching over its downy chicks at Brazoria NWR during a recent visit and while I was waiting around in hopes of getting a photo of one of the little fluff-balls I was reminded why this species is one of my favorites. To my eye stilts look like they were made by an artist who was making a sculpture to illustrate delicate elegance with an exaggerated, stretched out design. This moment didn’t last long as this dutiful parent found me a lot less interesting than the nearby Killdeer that it was determined on chasing away.

Himantopus mexicanus
Not a photo from today as it was rainy and cloudy all day. Heidi is in a bad mood, but the rain is very welcome. Spring has been too dry and warm here.
Anyway, this flower is called bugle (Ajuga reptans) and according to Wikipedia it "has been used in traditional Austrian medicine internally as a tea for the treatment of disorders related to the respiratory tract." I'm glad I decided to read a bit more before stocking up on Ajuga reptans. According to German Wikipedia it's only good for diarrhea, and given the big difference in symptoms I stopped looking further into it 😄
As the Blue Angels rolled on the runway you can see the heat rising from the ground.
Heat distortion is caused when light is refracted through air of differing densities. Hot air is less dense than cold air, so light waves are bent differently in hot versus cold air. The result is visible heat waves when there is a significant temperature difference between the ground and the air above it.
True belonging is not passive. It's not the belonging that comes with just joining a group. It's not fitting in or pretending or selling out because it's safer. It's a practice that requires us to be vulnerable, get uncomfortable, and learn how to be present with people without sacrificing who we are.
Dr. Brené Brown
Belongingness entails an unwavering commitment to not simply tolerating and respecting difference, but to ensuring that all people are welcome and feel that they belong.
John A. Powell
Today, if we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.
Mother Theresa, Saint Teresa of Calcutta
The most important thing in all human relationships is conversation, but people don't talk anymore, they don't sit down to talk and listen. They go to the cinema, watch television, listen to the radio, read books, update their status on the internet, but they almost never talk. If we want to change the world, we have to go back to a time when warriors would gather around a fire and tell stories
Paulo Coelho
We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say, ‘It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.
Fred Rogers
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
Winston Churchill
When we choose to wonder about people we don’t know, when we imagine their lives and listen for their stories, we begin to expand the circle of those we see as part of us.
Valarie Kaur
We must remain hopeful that a universal ethic of courage, caring, sharing, respect, radical compassion, and love will make a difference. We can never be too generous or too kind.
Marc Bekoff
I believe that we are here for each other, not against each other. Everything comes from an understanding that you are a gift in my life — whoever you are, whatever our differences.

Another cookie jar shot but pretty simple stuff because we are busy doing things we didn't do yet, if you know what I mean. A cookie jar shot stretched a little with one of the transform tools. Another photo turned b&w but was small so used the free transform tool to make it fit a full layer over the cookie jar and all colour removed leaving just the b&w outline. The 'show guides' in Ps is handy for this. Then used the overlay mode difference before flattening again. Fries my eyeballs a little bit but my brain will feel uncomfortable if i don't do a third. i don't have a third so will have to look for something suitable later...Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday...Sue..x
The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.
Sun Tzu
War is only a cowardly escape from the problems of peace.
Thomas Mann
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own.
Aldous Huxley
War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
Bertrand Russell
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell.
William Tecumseh Sherman
I will not play tug o' war. I'd rather play hug o' war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins.
Shel Silverstein
The first casualty when war comes is truth.
Hiram Johnson
If it's natural to kill, how come men have to go into training to learn how?

A member of the leaf warbler family, the beautiful olive and yellow Willow Warbler is also one of our most widespread.
A summer visitor to the Britain & Ireland, the Willow Warbler’s cascading, liquid song can be heard from mid-April and is arguably one of the most beautiful sounds of the spring. Willow Warblers can be found breeding across Britain & Ireland.
The Willow Warbler population has experienced mixed fortunes in the UK, where it is Amber-listed. It is declining across England and Wales but increasing in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is thought that the northern populations winter in a slightly different area from the southern birds and that this difference might contribute to the overall UK trend.
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday we had 70kts of wind, look at the morning we had on our passage today. The Norweigian mountains just north of Haugesund.
My ID skills for the sulphurs are not too good, especially the difference between Orange Sulphur and Clouded Sulphur. But my computer was almost certain this was an Orange. So that's my story and I'm sticking with it. 😂

One man preaching his religious beliefs and one man in strong disagreement. The guy threw his coat down, squared up to the preacher and shouted at him numerous times. He was animated and angry. Every time the preacher said "Jesus loves you", it riled up the guy even more. His reaction, although excessive in trying to grab the microphone, was understandable when you heard him shouting about his experiences. How he, as a serving soldier, saw his friends blown to pieces on the battlefield and how he could find no belief in religion after all he had seen. The encounter ended peacefully after this moment and the ex-soldier apologised to the crowd that had gathered as he walked away.

Had not intended to make a comparison, but I happened to look out after a short while and saw how much the sun had sunk. Then I tried to get both photos alike but the second was not quite like the first.

This picture is all about cultural difference however it is not a comment about the different dress codes but just the interesting contrast. As I was leaving Tottenham Court Road, I notice the young lady with the umbrella and as luck had it the other couple in their more European dress wandered into view. This was my picture day.
The Flame Towers, Baku, Azerbaijan
What a difference a couple of hours can make. Our last day in Baku started in bright blue skies and sunshine, but by the time I had shot the Carpet Museum the weather was on the turn. It's aptly named the "city of winds" for good reason! Standing upright was a concerted effort, let alone attempting to capture a steady shot with or without a tripod.
The fast rolling cloud movement suggested a storm was looming and so we decided to cut our losses and head back to the hotel. Although it didn't rain, it turned out to be a good call, for the wind had now become gale force and the streets had emptied... even the marble stairs were devoid of locals and tourists alike.
So here I am sat in our suite, in my towelling robe like any good Bond villain in his secret hideaway passing the time waiting for the world to end. Surprisingly, you quickly get bored of such events and so I thought I'd pass the time with a few long exposures before the last light had faded and the light show begins... while Mrs R packed.
Made a few small changes to my shape and played around with some new editing techniques. So used to photoshop and changing to Affinity has been... Something.
One of the most striking differences between a cat and a lie is that a cat has only nine lives.
