97302 TnT with 97304 “John Tiley” cross the new Pont Briwet with the 1Q75 07:45 Machynlleth to Derby RTC via Pwllheli and Aberystwyth, becoming the first loco-hauled train to cross the new bridge. The relative brightness of this photo does nothing to convey the gloom the photo was taken in.
Het wordt voor ons ondertussen traditie om op Hemelvaartsdag, wanneer de Nationale Stoomtreindag wordt georganiseerd, naar de RTM te gaan. Dit jaar zijn mijn oudste zoon en ik dus weer naar deze mooie museumlijn in de duinen gegaan. Het weer was schitterend, de treinen mooi. Weer genieten.
It is becoming a tradition to go to the RTM on Ascension Day, when the National Steam Day is organized. This year my oldest son and I visited this beautiful museum line in the dunes. The weather was beautiful, the trains were nice. A wonderful day again.
NMBS/SNCB 7608, ex NS 2275 in Zutphen. Toen deze loc in 1995 aan de NMBS verkocht werd was het de laatste NS-machine in de bruine kleurstelling van voor de huidige gele huisstijl. In 2002 buiten dienst gesteld en teruggehaald naar Nederland.

UP 7880 leads a loaded coal train up the eastern slopes of Soldier Summit near Colton, UT. Shortly after crossing underneath US-6 the train will stop to cut out the four manned helpers that were added before departing Helper, UT.
Photos scanned from colour slides taken in the summer of 1975 at Bristol Temple Meads station on a fairly cheap Hanimax compact camera in the days when everything was in BR blue.

Actually it's a Stourbridge Junction Flyer' but that's not so snappy-sounding. This class 68/DVT set was substituting for a class 168 on the 21.10 Marylebone to Stourbridge Junction - and who could resist a 100 mph run behind a 68 (sitting at the front of the first coach obviously) when the alternative is a 75 mph class 165 'semi-slow'?
No 68 010 'Oxford Flyer' has paused at High Wycombe. The image is a bit grainy but it kinda captures the moment. Waiting on the platform for my stopper, I could still hear the 68 as it roared through the night in the region of West Wycombe around three miles away.

A power unit removed from a Portugese CP Class 1800 locomotive. Whilst the power unit block is ostensibly the same as that fitted to a UK Class 50 there are a large number of differences in the layout of pipework & fittings such as in this view there are no turbo chargers or intercoolers fitted as there is on a UK Class 50 power unit. Also note the belt driven drive off the main generator
On display at the Greater Manchester Museum of Transport is a Gardner 6LW diesel engine. With a capacity of 8.37 litres, it produced 102 hp and during its long production life, the engine enjoyed great popularity in both the road haulage and bus sectors, earning an unrivalled reputation for reliability and fuel economy - a true engineer’s engine.
Gardner engines were a Manchester product, its workers very proud of their high levels of skills at the Patricroft factory. Among the makes of buses commonly powered by the Gardner 6LW were Guy, Bristol, Daimler and Dennis. A couple of municipalities even specified the fitment of Gardner 6LWs in their orders for AEC chassis.
Gardner engines were also popular among the fishermen of Hong Kong - many a scrapped British bus donated its 6LW unit to Chinese fishing junks.
