A strange rear end device still proves its worth in 2022. One of the very few remaining signs of industrial space served by railroad on Chicago's near northwest side. I've always been more partial to the Milwaukee Road in this sector of the city, but hell all of that dried up for a while now. The 606 Trail put the Bloomingdale Line out of its misery. Chicago Terminal street running is also clearly long gone. For whatever reason I can't find the motivation to track down 40th Street operations with the same passion.
With nothing else going on, I've been parked in the neighborhood on the east end of Galewood Yard. No signs of a crew van showing up for one of the CP military engines leading a sand train for Mingo Jct, OH via NS. The scanner though HAS been chirping about on an unfamiliar channel. It took me a good 20 minutes to figure out that of course the only job I would be hearing switching anywhere around had to be this guy.
