The P5 Rover is a series of large luxury Saloons and Coupes, designed by David Bache and first introduced in the form of a 3 litreSaloon in 1958.

The final iteration of the P5 appeared in September 1967 powered by a former Buick 3528cc V8. Rover had lacked the funds and time to develope their own V8 so instead decided to redevelope a lightweight aluminium concept engine that Buick had not taken up. They made it considerably stronger, which added some weight but still maintained the engine's light and compact features with an output of 160bhp. When compared to its predecessor, the aluminium engine enabled the car to offer improved performance and fuel economy with greater power and the lesser weight. Borg Warner Type-35 automatic transmission, hydrosteer variable ratio power steering became standard.

The exterior was mostly unchanged, apart from bold '3.5 Litre' badging, a pair of fog lights which were added below the head lights, cars rode on Rostylewheels with black painted inserts The P5B existed as both the 4-door coupe and saloon body style until end of production.

The 3½ Litre saloon variant was a favourite of high-ranking Government Ministers, and served as Prime Ministerial transport for Harold Wilson, Edward Heath, James Callaghan and Margaret Thatcher. As testament to their suitability, the last batch of P5Bs to roll off the Rover line in June 1973 were purchased by the British government and placed in storage, to be released for government use as required, resulting in relatively new looking examples wafting through whitehall and Westminster for almost a decade after the end of production. When Margaret Thatcher entered Downing Street in 1979 after her election victory, she was driven in a 1972 model. It was during Thatcher's eleven-year tenure that the P5 was eventually phased out as a Prime-Ministerial car, in favour of the Jaguar XJ.

Queen Elizabeth II also owns an Arden Green Rover P5B Saloon "JGY 280", which is on display at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire .

In an attempt to improve their somewhat negative public image, Southeastern have decided to copy TfL for Lahdun and work with Da Yoof Centah to develope a similar livery to that being trialed on the Central line.

465011 is shown here sporting the new livery. I think it looks positively sick, bruv. What do you think?

Shortly after WW!!, Frazer Nash were aquired by the Bristol Aeroplane Company and plans were put forward to develope a luxury Saloon under the Bristol name and a new Frazer Nash sports car, both to be powered by the former BMW 328 engine built under license by Frazer Nash during the second half of 1930s. Though before the cars could be marketed the companies had become independant once more. Bristol built their 400 and susequent models. While Frazer Nash with limited resources produced a sports car that was a clear developement of the BMW. chassis it was new but still consisted of a conventional steel ladder frame. Suspension at the front was through lower wishbones with a single transverse leaf spring. A live rear axle was fitted with torsion bar springs. A development of the overhead-valve 328 engine was, which featured hemispherical combustion chambers. Equipped with three carburettors, it produced around 120 bhp..

A few of these cycle winged High Speed Models were built for competition, one of which achieved third position at the 1949 Le Mans 24 hour race driven by Norman Culpan and Harold John Aldington.

The success prompted orders for these cars, and in honour of the achievment the model was renamed Le Mans Replica, from late 1949 with triple carburettors and larger valve ports and power output of 120bhp Around 50 were sold and competition successes include outright victories in the 1951 Targa Florio (Franco Cortese), and the 1952 Sebring 12 hour (Larry Kulok and Harry Gray)

EAS 841

was exhibited on the Frazer Nash stand at the 1950 New York Autoshow, by then the LeMans Replicas had become consisrant winners, in the 2-litre sports car class. Franco Cortese ran second in Giro di Sicilia before his fuel tank split and in the Mille Miglia he finished sixth overall, second in class. EAS 671 remained in the USA afyer the show, sold to future-1951 Sebring 12-Hours race winner Larry Kulok, and became his personal car. He raced it successfully winnining three events. It then passed quickly through the hands of three members of the Sports Car Club of America fraternity. In 1954 it was sold to Robert H. Sawyer of Hemet, California, and in 1956 it passed to J. Firestone. In 1989 it returned to England and was aquired by former racing Aston Martin owner-driver Mo Skailes who restored it to its former glory days.

In 1952 a Le Mans Replica Mark II version was introduced with a lighter tubular chassis even more stark than the original LeMans Replica with power increased to 125bhp and a de Dion back end.

Production was ended in late 1953 due to the imminent ban on cycle wing, bodied cars in sports car racing. but today the cars remain active in historic events and are extremely valuable, not supringly giving rise to the creation of replica Replicas

In the 1960's or 70's Crosthwaite and Gardiner built a number of replicas, after their restoration of an original frame following a racing accident. These cars used a duplicate tubular chassis and running gear from scrapped Bristols. The finished cars had copies of the Le Mans Replica bodies with the correct instruments and trim.

Another series of replica were began around 1990, by Werner Oswald and associates, who laid down parts for ten cars possibly copied from the Frank Synter Le Mans Replica I. These were sold in kit for (Werner Oswald Kits) also known as WOKs. Around the same time one of the Werner Oswald associates realising the Frazer Nash name had not been registered for a few years bought the title from Companies House. Meaning Oswald could now advertise the cars legally as having been made by Frazer Nash Cars Ltd. avoiding the cars aquiring Q plate registrations as kit cars.

The Chrysler Sunbeam had been aimed at the super-mini sector when launched in 1977. But it was felt that a hot hatch was needed to boost the sporty image. To this end the Chrysler Sunbeam Ti was lauched in 1979 with a 1600 cc twin Weber carbs and an output of 100 bhp

Chrysler had also commisioned Lotus to develope a rally version. The car was unveiled at the 1979 Geneva Motor show , but the road going version was not offered to the public until after the rebranding and became the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. With a 2172 cc version of the Lotus 2.0 ltr 16v engine and ZF gearbox

The Sunbeam lotus was also the weapon of choice for the works team, much success in the World Rally Championship - in 1980, Henri Toivonen won the 29th Lombard RAC Rally in one, and, in 1981, the Sunbeam Lotus brought the entire manufacturer's championship to Talbot.

The Decals on this car are driver Guy Frequelin and co driver Jean Todt - two names to conjour with. Frequelin was a successful rally driver, finest hour as a driver came when he finished runner-up only to Ari Vatanen, alongside then-navigator Jean Todt, at the wheel of a briefly competitive Sunbeam Lotus Talbot in the driver's classification of the 1981 World Rally Championship Winning the Rally of Argentina along the way. Fréquelin was also part of a four-car Renault assault on the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1977 with their highly successful Alpine Renault A442B. He was named as the third driver for both #7 Tambay/Jaussaud and the #16 Arnoux/Pironi machines. In more recent years, Fréquelin has held a position as Team Principal at the Citroën Total World Rally Team. He retired at the end of 2007 during his time with the team he oversaw the four consecutive world championship titles of Sébastien Loeb and an impressive number of victories in the Paris Dakar and in WRC,

Following Jean Todts retirement from active Motorsport, he too graduated to Motor Sport Management, first with Peugeot Talbot Sport, then with Scuderia Ferrari, before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ferrari from 2006 to 2008. Since 23 October 2009 he has been President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). On 29 April 2015, Todt was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as his Special Envoy for Road Safety. Under his direction, Peugeot won 4 World Rally Championship titles (drivers and manufacturers), won the Paris-Dakar Rally 4 times, and twice won the Le Mans 24 Hours. During his time at Ferrari, the Scuderia won 14 Formula One World Championship titles (drivers and manufacturers).

Kodak 2238 shot at ISO 80 with Nikon EM and DKL Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm F/1.9 in adapter. Developed in glycin-carbonate 1:10 for 60 minutes stand development. Glycin carbonate should develop underexposed film and add a bit of speed, but getting 2238 to ISO 80 was too much for the glycin. I have used 2238 with glycin before and I’m not encouraged that it will appreciably raise the ISO of this film. Very muddy and underexposed/developed. However artistically, there is a lot to exploit there. So while this isn’t great snapshot territory I love what it offers artistically or for a look from another time/place. I will give the glycin carb one last try with the 2238 but at something more approximating it’s base development window. Water stop, fixed with Ilford Hypam 1:4 for 6 minutes.

Sulfite (Anhydrous)............15grm

Sodium Carbonate (Anhydrous)...60grm

Glycin.........................15grm

Water..........................2 liters

Dilute 6oz.s stock with 58oz.s water. Develope 35 to 60 minutes at 65 degrees..... favored by those who like to put their film in the developer and forget about it for an hour or so. Little or no agitation is necessary after the film is first put in the tank, because the low sulfite content prevents the streaks and uneven development which are due to diffusion of silver bromide......
