Grasmere, Lake District, Cumbria

Some background information:

Grasmere is a village and popular tourist destination in the centre of the English Lake District. It takes its name from the adjacent lake of Grasmere. The well-known poet William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere for fourteen years, described it as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found."

The village is overlooked by the small rocky hill of Helm Crag, popularly known as "The Lion and the Lamb" or the "Old Lady at the Piano", depending on which side you view it from. Both names are derived from the shape of rock formations on its summit.

By the way the famous British musician and songwriter Sting and his wife Trudie Styler own a house in the Grasmere area.

We can't choose where we come from

But we can choose where we go from there..

Updated: This photo has been featured in Twenty20 Explored page Today 26th Nov 2013! Yey!

Maybe Albania, too?

I'll be gone for some of September, on another motorcycle trip (here's the first). This time, I'm going from Krakow, Poland to Montenegro and perhaps as far as Albania. I'll be taking a slightly different route down this time, probably going through Bosnia and then returning back to Krakow up along the coast of Croatia.

Traveling by motorcycle is all about compromises. I can only bring so much gear with my on a bike... no big lenses, and no huge tripods. I purchased a Benro A-069M8 Travel Angel tripod just for this trip. It folds down small enough (13") to fit perfectly in my tank bag. The stability isn't exactly superb with all 5 leg sections extended, but it's fine with 3 of them out... and something is better than nothing.

Some of the the other photography related items I'm taking:

-A boatload of batteries and memory cards.

-Drybag for my S90.

-Joby Gorillapod for my S90 (I'll probably mount this to the handlebars).

-Gisteq PhotoTrackr GPS (for geotagging my photos... unfortunately the GPS jack on my D90 broke, so I have to do it the hard way).

Very excited...

I am surprised that more use has not been made of destination displays to promote things other than pointless via points (Scatterburn via Golf Links - are the passengers in Seaton in any doubt that the bus won't turn left at the end of their road?). Service and fare changes, diversions, free wifi bank holiday service, there is so many options).

Stagecoach have now started promoting city fares on the 59 and 727 as seen here on 29006 at the temporary Guild St stop.

The final resting place of one of the largest crane barges in the world. Better known as the Boss 400.

Yes I walked there. There used to be an official path, but I think it was closed due the path becoming dangerous in places. I just bundu bashed(struggled through the bush) till I came across the old path. I started the walk at about 2pm and got out at about 7:30pm. While watching the sunset I saw about 6 trawlers just off shore and I could hear them shooting seals.

Large view

the premise of the film is that no one escapes death. need i say more. this movie spawned two more sequels ...and counting. but the first is still the best.

Convert the photo to black and white looks better than the original blue sky.

Finally as we rolled up along the road lined with Palm Trees and Hay Clusters Candy figured out our destination as the "Camel Farm" signs sprung up, "We're going to a camel farm?!" She yelled out in excitement. Yes... Yes we are!
