one from the archives tonight...

been a busy month, sorry to have missed so many of your posts, and posted so little... looking forward to things slowing a bit after the new year... will try to keep up and do some catching up then...

So here's to wishing all of you have a safe and great ending to your 2009...

Finally I want to thank all of you for your visiting my stream and sharing yours these past 6 months, I look forward to what is to come...

Miles to Termination Zero, Union Pacific 2717 eases off the mainline at the south end of Guadalupe as the train arrives at it's Destination after a five hour run up the California coast line. With the Conductor off to the left waiting for the train out enter the siding so the switch can be throw back, the leader catches the last bit of sunlight before the clouds covered up the skies over the Santa Maria Valley.

AZCR GP9R 3413, GP7 2279, and GP7 2164 lead the new pair of GP38-3s to supplement the Arizona Central's fleet across the majestic SOB Canyon as they approach their destination in Clarkdale, AZ. With seven locomotives on the property now, the three first generation Geeps somehow continue to be the primary power it seems with one of the new units being tossed into the mix sometimes.

For the most part the lunar eclipse was clouded out in my location in Toronto. There would be partially cloudy openings, like this hazy scene. But I was intrigued when I saw this plane flying into the scene, and the song "Destination Moon" popped into my head.

“All of life is a journey which paths we take, what we look back on, and what we look forward to is up to us. We determine our destination, what kind of road we will take to get there, and how happy we are when we get there.”

Taken in Bradgate Park, Leicestershire - Old John is a well known local landmark, a folly high on the hills. I was looking for a "story within an image" and this idea of a journey with a person, a path, and an obvious destination - this scene pretty much fits the bill.

Nothing artful about this, but an opportunity that couldn't be missed, and it does feature the lush Devon countryside.

After a 5 hour layover, DB Cargo 'Shed' 66112 restarts from Exeter Riverside Yard with the 11.46am Parkandillack - Stoke-on-Trent loaded china clay tanks (6M53). The route will take it via Westbury and eventually the Lickey Incline, where it will receive banking assistance. Arrival in Stoke-on-Trent is scheduled for 5.30am, Friday morning.

This was my first visit to Cowley Bridge Junction since the 1970s and, like last time, involved a walk from the station. At least it burned off a few calories from the hurriedly consumed dinner earlier.

Commenting off, thanks

The Golden Tanager (Tangara arthus) is a vibrant gem of the Andean cloud forests, and capturing this species at La Minga Ecolodge near Cali, Colombia, was a rewarding experience. The soft morning light filtered through the dense canopy, illuminating the tanager’s striking yellow plumage contrasted by its deep black facial markings. Perched against a natural backdrop of lush green foliage, the bird’s pose reflected both elegance and alertness, creating a visually dynamic scene.

From a technical perspective, I relied on a fast shutter speed of 1/350 sec to freeze the tanager’s subtle movements, while an aperture of f/6.7 provided a shallow depth of field, beautifully separating the subject from its surroundings. An ISO setting of 400 allowed for optimal detail retention without introducing unwanted noise, essential in the low-light forest environment. The interplay of natural light and thoughtful exposure choices helped emphasize the bird’s vivid coloring while preserving the surrounding environment’s atmospheric mood. This photograph reminds me of how patience, preparation, and respect for nature converge in a perfect photographic moment.

The Lake District is a region and national park in Cumbria in northwest England. A popular holiday destination, it’s known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations. Market towns such as Kendal, Ambleside and Keswick on scenic Derwentwater are bases for exploring the area

This is probably not the best photo to describe what I'm about to say...

But I once read it somewhere...

"It doesn't matter how strong... or what direction the wind is blowing...

You can always adjust your sail... to reach your destination..."

I'll never forget that quote...
