Of all Spain's tens of thousands of historical monuments, the Alhambra stands supreme. The final manifestation of the doomed Moorish civilization in the peninsula, its history also mirrors that the of Spain in the succeeding six centuries. Taken by Fernando and Isabel in a surge that culminated in Catholic Spain ruling vast tracts of Europe and New World, it, like the country, eventually fell into dereliction and then use as a barracks in the war-torn 19th century.

Rediscovered by Romantic travelers, it is now one of Europe's most-visited destinations!

The defensible hills were the principal reason why the Zirid rulers moved their town from nearby Elvira to Granada in the early 11th century. A natural fortress, the Sabika hill on which the Alhambra stands had previously been used by the Romans and Visigoths, but only a few remnants have been found from those eras. The Zirids fortified the hill, although their main palace was on the facing Albayzín. The Alhambra as we see it today was principally a construction of the later Nasrid dynasty, who rose to power in the 1230s and established the hill as their seat of power. The Nasrids ruled Granada until 1492 and are responsible for the most of the many buildings that form the Alhambra complex. Of these, their royal palace complex is what inspires visitors with the most awe. After Boabdil surrendered the city and fortress to the Catholic Monarchs, many modifications were made to the existing structures, and several new edifices were thrown up, not least of which is the bulky Renaissance Palacio de Carlos V. The name Alhambra is from Arabic al-qalat al-hambra, meaning the red fort, perhaps from the colour of the sandstone, especially in the setting sun.

I was thrilled to shoot the H1 Freeway last night but the excitement died down when me and my buddies saw the traffic jam when we got there but we still stayed and shoot anyway. The traffic jam actually gave this shot a different perspective. It's a streak of lights combined with visible cars. I like how this one turned out...

"When are you planning to settle down?"

"I don't think we really settle down. Isn't it more like moving from one destination to the next? We're always going to fight a change, then embrace a change, then stick with a routine then repeat the cycle."

"You don't want to settle down? Have a forever home?"

"How could I even consider this when the world around me is ever changing? How can you pick a spot and hope that you always roll a 20 so it would never be disturbed? War, terminations, depression, economic crisis, citizenships and what about nature itself, earthquakes, floods..."

"But you can't possible keep moving as you grow older..."

"Why not? Maybe I'd like to retire near the beach for a year then move to the country side in the next year, then up in the mountains a year after that."

"Or why not just spend your days in your furnished apartment watching all the movies you missed, reading all the books you couldn't in your youth, watching your grandkids play with their grandpa computer games or just brush your cats..."

"I could do that too...but I could do plenty. Settling down just seems unlikely when you aren't really sure where you belong."

The site is located on the banks of River Jordan at 380 Meters Below Sea Level, just 5 miles North of the Dead Sea, the final destination of the river.

River Jordan gives the pilgrims and tourists alike the feeling of authenticity.

This site is considered a holy place as it is where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist an event that changed human history and marked the dawn of Christianity.

Also, there is a number of Churches in the area.

Worth visiting. better during cooler months to avoid the Jordan Valley high temperatures.

Bambi's Cozy Version!!

Sometime between them falling asleep and Winston sneezing, the two souls were slowly entering another dimension. That place between reality and a dream where anything was possible.

All their dreams, aspirations and hopes appearing around them as their surroundings begin shifting. From plain, worn out and metallic to mossy, flowers and the smell of the wind.

Perhaps if Winston did not sneeze, they would have been sucked into one of their 'adventures'...

P.S. Had the luxury on my 1 day off to have been invited by a ginger for a photo session! We decided to do our own versions and I adore the variety!

How often I found where I should be going only by setting out for somewhere else.

During a cloudy sunrise on Jekyll Island, Georgia, I found this jungle scene to be more colorful than the beach scenes I was there to capture. The path doesn't look terribly inviting, but I assure you it's warm and there are plenty of creatures looking forward to making your acquaintence.

For the most part the lunar eclipse was clouded out in my location in Toronto. There would be partially cloudy openings, like this hazy scene. But I was intrigued when I saw this plane flying into the scene, and the song "Destination Moon" popped into my head.
