Despite the freeze they managed a healthy comeback. These were taken near Houston, so they are at their peak, where I live they are just now getting started.

Despite its name this waterfall is located on Reunion island.

It is at its best during raining season, that means right now :D.

Specially today, while the typhoon called Berguita is hitting the island...

thanks for the visit

Despite their name, Common Gulls are anything but in most of the UK. However, In Scotland they are, indeed, common as a breeding species. They often inhabit moorland sites as here where there is little competition and they aren't subject to predation by larger gull species. This colony straddles the road near Lochindorb near Grantown-on-Spey

Despite its appearance and what most of my books say, it seems a Skipper is a butterfly, not a moth. Common Skippers (Hesperiidae) are distinguished from the higher butterflies by their large moth-like bodies, small wings and hooked antennae. Skippers have amazingly large and focused eyes and their bodies look like they're covered with a fine brown dust.

A third point...Century Agaves live a very long time (probably not a 100 years but close.) And in the final months send up one very tall stalk ( about 25 feet high) which flowers and then drops tiny Agave plantlets in all directions... before the stalk and the plant die.

Northamptonshire is one of the less well-known counties despite being less than an hour away from London by train. It has some very pretty countryside including the area known as the Northamptonshire Uplands, which is geologically related to The Cotswolds, which are further to the south-west.

Despite my forays into digital art, nature still holds my eye for interesting patterns and colors forged by the forces of water, earthquakes, temperature, time, and other natural occurrences.

Despite it being almost mid-March already, we still had snow and coarse frost. It was a beautiful morning!

Despite a bad monsoon last year, and an even worse winter, I think that the two snows were enough to enable an excellent, if late, show this year.

Despite cold temperatures and bouts of rain & snow the primroses still bloom! They are amazing reminders that spring will come in the end!

Despite dark clouds, there is still a colorful goodnight greeting from the sun.

Despite a low tide, with Cockwood Harbour completely devoid of any seawater whatsoever, an opportunity of shooting an early-evening CrossCountry HST - in their last full year of operation before the planned phase-out in the Autumn - at this classic location was too good to miss. 43184 "Laira Diesel Depot" leads XC02 and 43239 with the 1E73 17.27 Plymouth-Derby (vice Leeds) service on a fantastic Spring day.

Despite their relatively plain colouring (compared to the parrots, rosellas and robins anyway), the Grey Shrike-thrush is one of my favourite birds, their beautiful song is one of my favourite sounds.

Despite the "brow" PTC array on the front of the cab, BNSF Train L KAN0191 07F still looks nice with all yellow bonnet paint as they head up the BNSF Strong City Sub. towards Superior, NE.

Despite lower temperatures I try to go to work by bike as often as possible... I meet geese, storks and hares instead of crazy car drivers. These graylag geese are part of a bigger flock that I see almost every day.

Despite its dampened head plumes and black frill I was delighterd to see this single Great Crested Grebe on one of the lakes at Titchfield Haven.

Despite the lingering chill, my beloved Narcissi flowers have burst into bloom today. They stand tall and proud, a vibrant splash of white against the mountain landscape. And oh, the scent! Their intoxicating fragrance has already begun to fill the air, instantly transporting my senses from the grip of winter to the sweet promise of a glorious spring day. It is not just a perfume! it’s a whisper of warmth, a breath of renewal, and a much-needed lift for the spirit.

Despite having been to Skiathos many times this is the first time we've ever stepped on to Lalaria Beach, famed for its white pebbles and blue waters. It is only reachable by boat so is very remote, and, I've got to say, it really didn't disappoint!

Despite the presence of Vermont's number one client pleaser on this day, the Vermont Rail System failed to provide a matched set of red engines. Nonetheless, leased GMTX GP38-2 2147 leads both of the VTR SD70M-2s and a GP40-2 with about fifty slurry loads on this snowy Vermont morning, seen crossing Cuttingsville Trestle in the fresh white powder.

Despite being a major approach to the Gotthard route in terms of passenger traffic, not much freight passes by the Olten - Luzern line: the reason lies in the geography of the Luzern area, with the main station being a terminus without a connecting loop between the different lines. Nonetheless, a few local industries receive and send stuff by rail. Here, a gravel train from Zweidlen (Weiacher Kies) to Rothenburg (BBR Belag und Beton Rothenburg) is hauled by Re 620 060. Despite the name, daylilies are not true lilies, although the flower has a similar shape. Before 2009, the scientific classification of daylilies put them into the family Liliaceae. Unlike daylilies, which have a fibrous root system, Liliaceae species grow from bulbs and, if ingested, are harmful to humans and animals. It is a common misconception that daylilies share the toxic properties of true lilies.

Although the buds and flowers are often used by humans in gourmet dishes, Hemerocallis species are toxic to cats and ingestion may be fatal. Treatment is usually successful if started before kidney failure has developed.

DESPITE BEING IN RUINS, THE synagogue in Vidin, Bulgaria is still famous for being the second-largest Jewish temple in Bulgaria. Built in 1894, it fell into disuse after the majority of the local Jews left Bulgaria during and soon after World WarII.

The synagogue was then seized by the communist government, and during the 1970’s, the Ministry of Culture and the National Institute of Monuments developed a plan to restore the building. However, when the communist regime collapsed in 1989, the project was abandoned, leaving the synagogue roofless and exposed to the elements.

Restoration efforts have been talked for years, but nothing has been attempted yet, and it still remains an empty shell.

Despite being the commonest and most widespread UK bird of prey, it was still a priviIege and thrill to get so close to this wild bird.

I had to fire shots off one at a time or in small bursts as the shutter noise was distracting this buzzard from devouring its pigeon.

It is quite large with broad, rounded wings, and a short neck and tail. When gliding and soaring it will often hold its wings in a shallow 'V' and the tail is fanned. Birds are variable in colour from all dark brown to much paler variations, all have dark wingtips and a finely barred tail. Their plaintive mewing call could be mistaken for a cat.

Despite the pessimistic forecast, the Cumbrian Coast was totally clear from mid afternoon until sunset, which was ideal today as both the monthly test train and an extra Heysham flask service was operating. 37116 is seen doing the honours again, this time at Holmegate Farm, working 1Q47 Derby - Carlisle. 37421 was on the rear. I had not been to this location for some years, since the 37's finished on passenger workings. In that time, both lines have been relayed with CWR, and the familiar sound of wheels over jointed track is a thing of the past, at this location at least.

Despite the frosty day I decided to blow away the cobwebs and grabbed my camera with me. My way lay near a shop near which I found these wooden pallets and captured them. As a result, I got a rather original texture.

Despite the rain I traveled yesterday to Blairstown NJ to see some of the locations from the 1980 cinematic masterpiece Friday the 13th,

This is Main St. of Blairstown. In the movie, one of the doomed counselors walks into town along this arcade.

Despite having spent much of the year railfanning Pennsylvania shortlines in York and surrounding areas, the ESPN 1701 on East Penn's York branch has eluded my lens until last week. I finally caught the GP9 making a run to the NS interchange with six coil cars from Kloeckner Metals. After adding an empty to the train at the yard, 1701 can here be seen pulling south before dropping the loads at the interchange Siding, from where it will continue back to Kloeckner to spot the empty.

despite the weather and the virus. sometimes you just have of to get out.

Despite the lovely winter sunshine this morning the birds appeared a bit dozy and not showing their best. The hawthorns were attracting the thrushes though, including loads of Blackbirds which do migrate here from Scandinavia in large numbers every winter. Many of our breeding Blackbirds probably winter in sunnier climes in Iberia or North Africa

Despite being in full post-breeding moult this Blackbird is still carrying food - probably for a second brood

Despite the photo assist dog, sometimes I catch a nice moment with these birds.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Despite weather, wind and frost, it's made of solid wood.

Despite it's name this gull is quite rare in most parts of the UK.

Fortunately on the west coast of Scotland we have them in abundance.

Despite Old Fall River Road being closed during a visit in early June, one of the highlights of our trip to Rocky Mountain National Park was hiking up the road from the Endovalley picnic area to Chasm Falls.

The Falls sit at 8,960' with a series of cascades below. The 1 mile hike to the Falls from Endovalley is not terribly strenuous, though it is steep; roughly 465' of elevation change in a mile. On the way back down from the falls, we stopped an admired this beautiful view of cascades, flowing rapidly with Spring melt.
