Despite the promising weather forecast, it was pouring with rain all the time I was at this place in Wales. A local person explained that weather forecasts don't really apply in this valley.

Despite the clouds, I am happy with this photo. The sounds were worth the stop alone. Here the DL takes off westbound out of Slateford Jct on Oct 13, 2016.

Despite what the song says, it does rain in California, San Diego to be exact. Love seeing different species when away from home.

Despite Crissal Thrasher being a nemesis bird here in San Diego County, in New Mexico (and Arizona) I saw many Crissals. We actually had them on more days than we didn't. We got great views around Albuquerque and at Bosque Del Apache. And then when I returned to San Diego I promptly started missing them every time I try.

Despite the camera being accidentally set to tracking people it did a decent job of tracking this harrier.

These chrysanthemums (or asters) are growing nicely beside a garden gate in Erba Park despite our cold fall nights and cool days. [DSC02975_lr_2000]

Despite it being almost mid-March already, we still had snow and coarse frost. It was a beautiful morning!

Despite my in-laws only living several miles down the road this is the 1st picture I have ever taken of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury. The weather forecast was for sunny spells but sadly the sun was nowhere to be seen. I did ask my father in law if he'd be kind enough to push a bike up the hill but he sadly declined, there's always next time I guess!

Despite its obvious attractiveness, an impressive bird.

Despite a favourable weather forecast, it bucketed it down this afternoon! Perfect excuse to indulge in some coffee and rich chocolate cake, curled up with a good book and watching the rain pouring down outside...

Despite an abundance of wild flowers in our garden this year the abnormal weather has impacted on butterfly numbers, with only the white species seeming to have survived in any numbers at all. We have occasionally seen Red Admirals, Peacocks and Holly Blues and early on a few Brimstones but no Orange Tips or Painted Ladies and, once again for the tenth year, no Small Tortoiseshells. This rather small Speckled Wood is, as of Sept. 8th, our first of the year. They have attractive almost orange markings on their underwings but I've never managed to capture this as they seem to prefer the pose shown here.

Despite its name, the small skipper is not our smallest skipper, although it is smaller than the large skipper: the other skipper likely to occur in gardens.

Like its larger cousin, the small skipper is often found basking on vegetation, or making short buzzing flights among tall grass stems.

It is a small, bright orange, moth-like butterfly that flies rapidly and often has its wings closed at rest. It is less boldly marked on its upperwings than the large skipper.

This butterfly is widespread in southern Britain and is expanding its range northwards. There is a single generation each year.

Eggs are laid in late July and early August. The caterpillars emerge some two weeks later.

What they eat:

Adults nectar at flowers. The caterpillars feed on Yorkshire fog grass.

Despite it being winter we have had spring like weather recently so it's not surprising to see some early lambs. These two were happy to pose for me while their mum watched on.

Despite its name, the red on the belly is hard to see. This is a very noisy woodpecker and can be readily enticed to peanuts and sunflower seeds in the winter.

Despite the wet autumn weather the boys are out again and guarding the border...

Despite the terrible weather, covid, and other negatives...Still the positive thing on my mind...is Fall. Always been a favorite.

Despite the name they are not true lilies and are not related to the lily family. The tuberous rootstock is edible.

France; Brenne 11/7/18. A real rarity here despite the distribution maps.

Despite the threat of showers, when the sun shines, so does the Common Blue butterfly. Hove, East Sussex - August 2023.

Despite the many cabins that line this little pond, a big flock of ducks comes each Fall, and spends weeks here before continuing south. A small flock of Canada Geese take up temporary residence too.

A closer look at the birds is below.

Despite the weather life goes on.

Despite a heavy sky the morning was very calm, which I have attempted to emphasise with a rather blue edit.

Despite her name, our dear Käterchen was a girl who came to us one day and has stayed with us for many years. When she had to cross the Rainbow Bridge in 2016, she was certainly over 21 years old. It seems that her tattoo indicated that she had previously had to live a terrible life in an experimental laboratory, from which she was able to escape.

Despite the snow lots of drumming Woodpeckers in my local woodland is there going to be an early Spring I wonder !

Despite all the problem I had on the last few rainy days I still love the rain!

Despite having Ella with me which is normally guaranteed to send the sheep scattering far and wide, this time the sheep ganged together and approached closer and closer, following us as we wandered around... a strange and unnerving experience.

Despite the murkiness of the shallow water at Inchmery on the south coast the red legs of this Redshank are still visible beneath the surface.

Thank you all for your kind responses.

Despite the fact it was chucking it down, it was a joy to photograph this little bird. Another very confiding wader coming as close as 1m to where I was laying at times. I have only seen these from a distance before so I was quite surprised how small they are. Even a pied wagtail looked big by comparison.

Despite the sun just dipping slightly, with it being such an exceptionally rare shot, I've had to razz it up a bit.

Despite it being, what is pretty regular, a very wet day, I could not resist taking a picture of these brave tulips displaying their raindrop jewels.

Despite unexpected conditions in its southern abode, the Mourning Dove knew what to do to maximize the R-value of its down jacket in Webster, Texas.

Despite the cool windowsill this seems to be putting out new growth

Despite being a couple of minutes drive from where I stay when I visit Scotland, I have very few pictures of Castle Stalker that I'm actually happy with. This one isn't too bad I think, although I would have preferred a slightly higher tide.

Despite the separation at the base of this tree, the twin trunks have carried on similar paths with similar goals and are still part of the same whole. The result is unique and eye catching. A layer of fog paradoxically adds a layer of clarity to this beautiful organism by filtering out the competing scenic elements.

Despite this being only a 10 minute drive from my house, I had never shot the wild garlic here in spring until lockdown started and we had to stay local.

Despite their large frame, these birds are elegant and graceful.

Grey herons are carnivores (piscivores) and feed mostly on fish. However, depending on the season and what is available, they also may eat amphibians, crustaceans, aquatic invertebrates, mollusks, snakes, small birds and rodents, and sometimes some plants.

With nothing of interest over the last few weeks over the G&SW I decided to come out for this move despite the appalling weather, and last minute Christmas shopping. GBRf 66751 comes through Dumfries working the Kilmarnock Bonnyton depot to Doncaster down decoy with two EMU translator coaches.

Despite the thousands of sea shots like this on the internet I felt the need to 'give it a go' when walking on the beach today. While at the beach I saw about 4 seals swimming around in the rocky bays, annoyingly I had packed my 'landscape' lenses and which doesn't include and long zooms! I guess I will just have to be happy at seeing them!

This very summery shot (note the sarcasm) was taken on the beach at Morfa Nefyn in North Wales.

Thanks for looking!

Despite the dramatic site, a tornado was inside this system. Taken from Briggs, Texas, looking towards the north Austin area. March 21, 2022.

Despite having driven down this road hundreds of times thinking "Hey, that could be a cool shot!", it wasn't until this day when I actually executed it. The fall colours were in full swing, and 717 was howling closer as they climbed out of the Sturgeon River Valley - it felt like the perfect time to snag the photo!

Despite the name, this warbler was often seen foraging along the ground or in low brushy areas. A very common sight during my visit to Varadero, Cuba.
