Despite the fact that there are around 20,000 species of this large family of Longhorn beetles there a few to be found living in the UK. Just proves that you don't have to always take a trip to a tropical rainforest to find some amazing looking bugs. Fond of damp grassland areas and chalky soils where the larvae of this beetle develop in the stem tissues of herbaceous plants such as hogweed. Can be seen from May to June and found widespread in the UK but local in eastern England.
Despite its name, the Red Squirrel's coat varies in colour from a fine russet or chestnut colour in summer to dark brown or even greyish in winter.
Red Squirrels are Britain's only native squirrel species and have been in rapid decline since the 1950s. Numbers in the UK have dropped from an estimated 3.5 million to 120,000, with the majority of them now living in Scotland.
Despite its different last name, the Little Blue Heron is probably a close relative of the Snowy Egret. It looks much like a Snowy when it is young, but molts to a dark slate-blue plumage as an adult. Generally wary and hard to approach.

Despite (or perhaps because) of the lockdown I had some success growing these lilies in a wooden tub .The tub itself managed to grow some bracket fungi on its walls.

Despite the title (which reminds me of a great movie), this is not a river but a small lake in the neighborhood of my home. The light and the mist were wonderful that morning.

Despite raining the previous day, this waterfall had a rather low flow. Still a beautiful place though! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McConnells_Mill_State_Park
Despite its name, the Brazilian Tanager is not, quite, endemic to the lowlands of the Atlantic Forest biome of eastern Brazil, being also found in extreme northeast Argentina. Males are impossible mistake, being brilliant scarlet-red with a black tail and wings, and a very obviously pale mandible to the bill. Females, on the other hand, are less distinctively plumaged and recall, to some extent, females of other Ramphocelus tanagers, or even some Tachyphonus, but are generally much redder over the underparts than any similar species. There is no known overlap with the congeneric and much more widespread Silver-beaked Tanager (Ramphocelus carbo), which is substantially darker in both sexes than the present species, although the two probably come close in various parts of eastern Brazil. doi.org/10.2173/bow.bratan1.01

During sunset, a cloud flew in in an amazing shape (a bird, a dragon, and maybe an angel ...)
A little understanding of the physics of cloud formation underscores the complexity of the atmosphere and sheds light on why predicting weather for more than a few days is such a challenge.
Six types of clouds you can see and how they can help you understand the weather.
1) Cumulus clouds - On a sunny day, rays warm the earth, which heats the air located directly above it. The heated air rises upward due to convection and forms cumulus clouds. These “good weather” clouds are like cotton wool. If you look at the sky filled with cumulus clouds, you can see that they have a flat bottom, located at the same level for all clouds. At this altitude, air rising from ground level cools down to the dew point. It usually doesn't rain from cumulus clouds, which means the weather will be good.
2) Cumulonimbus clouds.
Small cumulus clouds do not rain, but if they grow and grow in height, it is a sign that heavy rain is coming soon. This often happens in summer when morning cumulus clouds turn into cumulonimbus during the day. Cumulonimbus clouds often have a flat top. Air convection occurs inside such a cloud, and it gradually cools until it reaches the temperature of the surrounding atmosphere. At this moment, it loses its buoyancy and can no longer rise higher. Instead, it spreads out to the sides, forming the characteristic anvil shape.
3) Cirrus clouds form in very high layers of the atmosphere. They are smoky because they are composed entirely of ice crystals falling in the atmosphere. When cirrus clouds are carried by winds moving at different speeds, they take on a characteristic curved shape. And only at very high altitudes or at high latitudes, cirrus clouds give out rain that reaches the ground.
4) Stratus Clouds - A low-lying, continuous cloud sheet that covers the sky. Stratus clouds are formed by slowly rising air or gentle winds that cover the cold land or sea surface with moist air. Stratus clouds are thin, therefore, despite the gloomy picture, it is unlikely to rain from them, a little drizzle at most. Stratus clouds are identical to fog, so if you've ever walked in a mountainous area on a foggy day, you've been inside a cloud.
5) Lenticular clouds. Smooth and lenticular lenticular clouds form when air is blown up and over a mountain range, and as it travels over a mountain, the air descends to its previous level. At this time, it heats up and the cloud evaporates. But it can slip further, as a result of which the air rises again and forms another lenticular cloud. This can result in a chain of clouds extending far beyond the mountain range. The interaction of wind with mountains and other surface features is one of the many details that must be taken into account in computer simulations to obtain accurate weather predictions.
6) Kelvin - Helmholtz like a breaking ocean wave. When air masses at different heights move horizontally at different speeds, their state becomes unstable. The boundary between the air masses begins to ripple and form large waves, such clouds are quite rare.

Despite recent wind & rain, there is still plenty of Fall color to be admired. All these images, with the exception of the upper left corner, were taken on my walks in the neighborhood on Th & Fr. It is unusual to have so much color this far into Nov, but I'm loving it! HSoS & HCS!
DESPITE being a comparatively recent addition to the British list, the Collared Dove is now a familiar sight in the region. Its distinctive call is also well know, particularly in urban areas, as is its gliding display flight performed on bowed, outstretched wings. (Note the bright yellow is a leaf )

THE TRUE MEANING of CHRISTMAS, often gets lost in the rush of the season: the shopping, the parties, and wrapping of presents. BUT the essence of the season is the greatest gift of all times, GOD gave us JESUS CHRIST, his own son !
Despite its striking appearance, the American Bittern is a secretive bird and quite inconspicuous amid the dense reed beds and marsh vegetation.

Despite being from the cactus family, the May flower does not have any thorns. It originates in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil and is scientifically known as schlumbergera truncata.
Its preferences are similar to orchids in terms of support. In its natural environment it prefers to use tree trunks as support. Therefore, this place is one of the best to keep your flower.
The name of this plant became popular due to its flowering, which takes place in May. However, it can be known in other ways depending on the region you are in. Thus, other common names are: silk flower, easter cactus for the southern hemisphere and christmas cactus for the northern hemisphere.
This flower fell in love with gardening enthusiasts because it is medium in size, has a huge variety of colors such as pink, pale yellow, red, orange and white, in addition to being very easy to grow.
The May flower reaches 30 cm in height, and can be kept in smaller pots with a diameter of 10 cm. Another curiosity is that if this plant is pollinated, it produces pink fruits with 1 to 2 cm when ripe.
***
This plant blooms in autumn, which in Brazil takes place between March and May. This time is close to Easter, which is also related to the flower. On the other hand, it can still bloom around Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere.
In this way, the May flower is linked to festivals that symbolize rebirth and life. Because it has many cheerful colors, it brings more liveliness to any environment in which it is, valuing any garden decoration around it.
The name silk flower is related to the soft and delicate texture of this flower. Therefore, these definitions are also among its meanings, offering more softness to the place where it is grown. That's why you can even stay in the plants to improve the energy of the house.
If offered as a gift, its symbolism indicates an attitude of pure and true feeling. It can also be used for declarations of love, representing the sincerity of the relationship.
Despite all we did to vanquish the traces
My very language is tainted
With all that we stole to replace it with this
I am quiet, feeling the onset of riot
Despite all I have seen and experienced, I still get the same simple thrill out of glimpsing a tiny patch of snow in a high mountain gully and feel the same urge to climb towards it.

Despite its abundance, persecution due to its reputation for taking eggs ( of game birds in particular) has made this handsome bird very wary and a challenge to photograph.
Thank you all for your kind responses.

Hope you have a great Friday and weekend everyone.
Despite water restrictions in the Cape, there are three botanicals that put on the most beautiful show of flowers: Bougainvillea, Hibiscus and Plumbago.
The water restrictions in place, allow for watering plants twice weekly using a bucket - no hosepipes allowed. I’ve taken matters one step further and instead of using potable water, I save my bathwater for the shrubs – and they’ve rewarded me handsomely :-)
Here is an image of my Plumbago.

Despite having Christmas on my own I had a fantastic day. An early morning zoom meeting watching my daughter and granddaughters opening presents, followed by the friendship of neighbours, then a fantastic muddy mountain bike ride to the coast, it felt wonderful to get some hard exercise . then another zoom meeting with my daughters, and lots of cooking to show my wonderful Italian friend Maura a traditional British Christmas dinner for our late night FaceTime Christmas special. Finally some dancing to Toots and The Maytals in a kilt :))))) Pressure Drop is by Toots and the Maytals. Sadly Toots Hibbert died to Covid last year, so sad, he was probably the most uplifting person I've ever seen perform at a gig. Pressure drop too after all my cooking exploits, just need to work out how to eat all this food :)))
Despite or even because of the fog in the background, the colors of the small chapel glow on this gloomy November day.
Despite being the commonest and most widespread UK bird of prey, it was still a priviIege and thrill to get so close to this wild bird.
I had to fire shots off one at a time or in small bursts as the shutter noise was distracting this buzzard from devouring its pigeon.
It is quite large with broad, rounded wings, and a short neck and tail. When gliding and soaring it will often hold its wings in a shallow 'V' and the tail is fanned. Birds are variable in colour from all dark brown to much paler variations, all have dark wingtips and a finely barred tail. Their plaintive mewing call could be mistaken for a cat.
Despite the common name, it is not in fact a lily.[...].
The name Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words ἡμέρα (hēmera) "day" and καλός (kalos) "beautiful".
Daylilies have been found growing wild for millennia throughout China, Mongolia, northern India, Korea, and Japan.[7] There are thousand-year-old Chinese paintings showing orange daylilies that are remarkably similar to the flowers that grace modern gardens.
Daylilies may have been first brought to Europe by traders along the silk routes from Asia. [...].
Daylilies were first brought to North America by early European immigrants, [...]. By the early 1800s, the plant had become naturalized, and a bright orange clump of flowers was a common sight in many homestead gardens. Wikipedia
"Despite having wings, the puffin is a poor flier. It must flap its wings 300 to 400 beats per minute to stay airborne. It also has trouble landing gracefully and often crashes and tumbles onto the sea or grass. But the puffin is a strong swimmer and its wings serve it best by helping it “fly” underwater.
The puffin comes to land to burrow and breed for four to five months a year." The Royal Canadian Geographical Society
