The Glyptotheque (German Glyptothek) is a collection of antique sculptures. The designation glyptotheque was coined by the librarian of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, derived from the ancient Greek words γλυπτός glyptós (sth. cut or engraved) and θήκη thḗkē (storage place).
The Munich Glyptotheque was commisioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria and built from 1816 to 1830 in neoclassical style.

Alright, this is not the official designation of this area between the 18th green of the Lost Farm course at Barnbougle and the tee to the par three 18A (one of two extra holes on this 20 hole course). You won't find any reference to it as such in the brochures or website. But let me assure you that this is tiger snake country.
You wouldn't be planning a swim in this water hole when you see what's in the water at the end of this little jetty. And I'm quite sure that by now there are plenty of miss-hit balls in there too. I should add that tiger snakes are also very good swimmers.
International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (informally and simply called Ozone Day) is celebrated on September 16 designed by the United Nations General Assembly. This designation had been made on December 19, 2000, in commemoration of the date, in 1987, on which nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 16 September the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The closure of the hole in the ozone layer was observed 30 years after the protocol was signed. Due to the nature of the gases responsible for ozone depletion their chemical effects are expected to continue for between 50 and 100 years
How about a little city trip? It seems there will even be on-board service.
(The Douglas DC-3 (with the military variants Douglas C-47 and Douglas Dakota) is, according to Wikipedia, the passenger resp. transport aircraft produced in the largest numbers until today, and certainly one of the most famous ones. For Swissair, 16 aircraft of this type operated from 1937 to 1969. The machine with the designation HB-IRA as the prototype of the model belonged to the first ones and operated by Swissair until 1955, then sold. The Swissair flight plan No. 6 was valid from May 25, 1948.)
Jökulsárlón sits south of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. Vatnajökull which, with its surrounding area, form Iceland's largest national park, and the second largest in Europe.
Huge blocks of ice calve from the glacier and those icebergs float into a lagoon ("Glacier Lagoon"). From there they keep floating towards the Atlantic ocean, where some of them get washed ashore and sparkle on the black beach like diamonds, after having been polished by the waves. Thus, the beach designation: Diamond Beach.
This photo was taken at sunrise, on a glorious day, with beautiful weather (finally, as the two previous days had been terrible, a total loss...). When I've arrived to the beach a couple of hours before sunrise, seals were easily seen in the water, looking for their morning's meal... And when the sun rose in the sky, well, the least we can say is that it was monumental! This place is utterly beautiful and will remain always in my memories as being the most extraordinary spot I've been in that marvellous trip to Iceland.

The Old City (Hebrew: הָעִיר הָעַתִּיקָה, Ha'Ir Ha'Atiqah, Arabic: البلدة القديمة, al-Balda al-Qadimah) is a 0.9-square-kilometer (0.35 sq mi) walled area within the modern city of Jerusalem.
The history of the Old City has been documented in significant detail, notably in old maps of Jerusalem over the last 1,500 years. This area constituted the entire city of Jerusalem until the late 19th century; neighbouring villages such as Silwan, and new Jewish neighborhood such Mishkenot Sha'ananim, later became part of the municipal boundaries.
The Old City is home to several sites of key religious importance: the Temple Mount and Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians and the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 1981.
Traditionally, the Old City has been divided into four uneven quarters, although the current designations were introduced only in the 19th century. Today, the Old City is roughly divided (going counterclockwise from the northeastern corner) into the Muslim, Christian, Armenian and Jewish Quarters. The Old City's monumental defensive walls and city gates were built in 1535–1542 by the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota (RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II and remained in front-line service with various military operators for many years.
Approximately 100 different countries' armed forces have operated the C-47 with over 60 different variants of the aircraft produced.
The C-47 differed from the civilian DC-3 by way of numerous modifications, including being fitted with a cargo door, hoist attachment and strengthened floor - along with a shortened tail cone for glider-towing shackles, and an astrodome in the cabin roof.
During World War II, the armed forces of many countries used the C-47 and modified DC-3s for the transport of troops, cargo, and wounded. The U.S. naval designation was R4D. More than 10,000 aircraft were produced in Long Beach and Santa Monica, California, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Between March 1943 and August 1945, the Oklahoma City plant produced 5,354 C-47s.
The specialized C-53 Skytrooper troop transport started production in October 1941 at Douglas Aircraft's Santa Monica plant. It lacked the cargo door, hoist attachment, and reinforced floor of the C-47. Only 380 aircraft were produced in all because the C-47 was found to be more versatile.
The name designation in the map function of Flickr is often wrong, as in this contribution. Ooijen is on the west side of the Meuse River; De Hamert on the east.
The National Park 'De Hamert' is a great place to walk in any season, even in dreary, gray winter. This area was already settled in the bronze and early iron ages; it has only been partially excavated for archaeology in order to leave finds for later generations.
The heath is grazed by Kempen Heath Sheep whose forebears - as uncovered sheep bones attest - lived here as early as the bronze age.

According to the Quebec Toponymy Board, the toponymic designation "rivière Delphine" appeared in 1652 in the deed of concession of the Argentenay hinterland by Jean de Lauson to Louis d'Ailleboust in 1652. The geographical maps of Deshayes (1695), de Bellin (1744) attest to the same name.
In addition, the geographical map ofOrleans Island designed in 1689 by Robert de Villeneuve identifies this watercourse as the "Dauphine river". Subsequently, this last toponymic form imposed itself in the use of the region.
A third toponymic designation "Bellefine river" will be used occasionally in the nineteenth century, notably by the historian Pierre-Georges Roy.
The historian Louis-Philippe Turcotte tells in his work "History of the Orleans Island", published in 1867, that the name of Dauphine was attributed to this watercourse "In honor of Madame la Dauphine of France, by Mr. Berthelot, owner of the Island and former secretary of the commands of Madame la Dauphine. ”
The toponym "Rivière Dauphine" was made official on December 5, 1968 at the Place Names Bank of the Commission de toponymie du Québec7.

NRGNP is the latest park to receive NP status, bumping up from its previous National River designation in 2021. The 1977 bridge over the New River gorge is the signature image of the park. Despite its name, the river is actually one of the oldest rivers in the world. The bridge is the longest steel arch span in the western hemisphere and the third highest bridge in the US. The whole area is an adventure lover's paradise.
This underground cave, whose oldest sections were carved into stone in the 16th century, is considered one of the cathedrals of wine. Located in Sotillo de la Ribera, Burgos, it is the cornerstone of Bodegas Ismael Arroyo whose most celebrated brand, Valsotillo, raises its wines in this historic place.
Around 1,200 square meters of underground galleries, with dry walls without moisture leaks, make it a unique winery in the world of wine, equipped with special characteristics for its maturation and conservation.
In 1992, an extension was made to complete the park of barrels and bottle racks that increased its beauty and connected it with the later buildings dedicated to the first phases of wine production. Their visit is a delight for those who come here, since they find themselves in front of facilities where grape juice has been raised for 400 years.
The wines of Ismael Arroyo, founder of the ValSotillo brand as well as the Ribera del Duero designation of origin in the last quarter of the previous century, are aged in this historic winery in excellent conditions, naturally, at a constant temperature of 11-12ºC. throughout the year, together with the absence of vibrations, noise and light, which allow their wines to achieve excellent aging.
The aging process is carried out in American and French oak barrels with a capacity of 225 liters and the rest of the time it rests in the bottle until it is released to the market.
These wines, now made by the children and grandchildren of their founder who continue a long family tradition, show an extraordinary constitution, broad bouquet and texture, which can only be achieved in these unique facilities.

Extremely expensive in 1938, and OMG expensive now, to keep it green and on the road.
1938 Bugatti 3rd Series Type 57C 3 Position Cabriolet, in that 3rd position crouching on the green at Pebble Beach. The 'C' designation comes from the French word for supercharger: Compresseur. The vicious rumor that occupants of the rear seat were consumed by the car has never been confirmed. However, it is hard to see back there.......
Unveiled in 1934, the Type 57 is widely regarded as a masterpiece from the hand of Etorre's son, Jean Bugatti. Designed to replace the Type 49, the new Bugatti was powered by a magnificent 3.3-liter twin-cam straight-eight engine and represented the ultimate in automotive performance and design. Bugatti continually refined the Type 57 throughout its production run resulting in three distinct series of chassis. The final third-series chassis –underpinning the car presented here – featured a number of improvements, as they were constantly tinkering with the engineering.
This car was originally equipped with striking three-position Cabriolet coachwork by Letourneur et Marchand. The company was founded by Jean-Marie Letourneur and Jean-Arthur Marchand in 1905, and by the 1930s was specialising in coachbuilt car bodies for fitting on chassis from luxury automakers such as Duesenberg, Hispano-Suiza, Rolls-Royce and Minerva.
In all, it is believed that only six Type 57s were originally outfitted as a Cabriolet by this prestigious French coachbuilder. Originally finished in green with a lighter, contrasting cove and green leather upholstery, the Cabriolet was delivered to its first owner, S. Jaspart, in November 1938 through Bugatti’s Paris showroom.
It retains it's original colors, and has been restored to an extremely high standard! If you need proof of your wealth and prefer to be conspicuous in your consumption then this is your car!

No matter the designation...which I'm happy to hear from the experts on...this Golden-crowned sparrow was found in a large flock on our hillside. He/she definitely seemed to stay undercover far more of the time - (probably instinctually) - due to how noticeably it stood out from the crowd. It took many days to finally get a shot that really showed off this buffy coloring and delightful beauty. It is definitely not white in coloring.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV‑104) is a Space Shuttle orbiter belonging to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the spaceflight and space exploration agency of the United States. Constructed by the Rockwell International company in Southern California and delivered to the Kennedy Space Center in Eastern Florida in April 1985, Atlantis is the fourth operational and the second-to-last Space Shuttle built. Its maiden flight was STS-51-J from 3 to 7 October 1985.
Atlantis embarked on its 33rd and final mission, also the final mission of a space shuttle, STS-135, on 8 July 2011. STS-134 by Endeavour was expected to be the final flight before STS-135 was authorized in October 2010. STS-135 took advantage of the processing for the STS-335 Launch On Need mission that would have been necessary if STS-134's crew became stranded in orbit. Atlantis landed for the final time at the Kennedy Space Center on 21 July 2011.
By the end of its final mission, Atlantis had orbited the Earth a total of 4,848 times, traveling nearly 126,000,000 mi (203,000,000 km) or more than 525 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
Atlantis is named after RV Atlantis, a two-masted sailing ship that operated as the primary research vessel for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution from 1930 to 1966.
The Rosette Nebula (also known as Caldwell 49) is a large, spherical (circular in appearance), H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 (Caldwell 50) is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter.
The complex has the following NGC designations:
NGC 2237 – Part of the nebulous region NGC 2238 – Part of the nebulous region
NGC 2239 – Part of the nebulous region (Discovered by John Herschel)
NGC 2244 – The open cluster within the nebula (Discovered by John Flamsteed in 1690)
NGC 2246 – Part of the nebulous region
The cluster and nebula lie at a distance of some 5,000 light-years from Earth) and measure roughly 50 light years in diameter. The radiation from the young stars excites the atoms in the nebula, causing them to emit radiation themselves producing the emission nebula we see. The mass of the nebula is estimated to be around 10,000 solar masses.
A survey of the nebula with the Chandra X-ray Observatory has revealed the presence of numerous new-born stars inside optical Rosette Nebula and studded within a dense molecular cloud. Altogether, approximately 2500 young stars lie in this star-forming complex, including the massive O-type stars HD 46223 and HD 46150, which are primarily responsible for blowing the ionized bubble. Most of the ongoing star-formation activity is occurring in the dense molecular cloud to the south east of the bubble.
A diffuse X-ray glow is also seen between the stars in the bubble, which has been attributed to a super-hot plasma with temperatures ranging from 1 to 10 million K. This is significantly hotter than the 10,000 K plasmas seen in HII regions, and is likely attributed to the shock-heated winds from the massive O-type stars.

The Crab Nebula (catalogue designations M1, NGC 1952, Taurus A) is a supernova remnant and pulsar wind nebula in the constellation of Taurus. The now-current name is due to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, who observed the object in 1840 using a 36-inch telescope and produced a drawing that looked somewhat like a crab. Corresponding to a bright supernova recorded by Chinese astronomers in 1054, the nebula was observed later by English astronomer John Bevis in 1731. The nebula was the first astronomical object identified with a historical supernova explosion.
At an apparent magnitude of 8.4, comparable to that of Saturn's moon Titan, it is not visible to the naked eye but can be made out using binoculars under favourable conditions. The nebula lies in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way galaxy, at a distance of about 2.0 kiloparsecs (6,500 ly) from Earth. It has a diameter of 3.4 parsecs (11 ly), corresponding to an apparent diameter of some 7 arcminutes, and is expanding at a rate of about 1,500 kilometres per second (930 mi/s), or 0.5% of the speed of light.
At the center of the nebula lies the Crab Pulsar, a neutron star 28–30 kilometres (17–19 mi) across with a spin rate of 30.2 times per second, which emits pulses of radiation from gamma rays to radio waves.

WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE
Mount Fiji, the highest mountain of Japan has been a symbol of worship for many Japanese for its dignified shape and pure beauty. Many people climbed the top to offer their prayer for their health and prosperity for ages. For those who tried to climb the top, many routes were developed and lodging inns were built, and for those who could not climb the steep and high mountain, many temples and shrines were built along the routes at the foot of the mountains. The mountain and its surrounding remains/buildings are now preserved under the designation of the UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage in 2017.
Amtrak's "Southwest Chief," train No. 4, accelerates out of the dip at West Darling, Arizona on the morning of February 26, 1994. A westbound intermodal freight can be seen climbing out of the same "swag" in the distance. I'm not immediately familiar with Santa Fe milepost designations, but it's still about 1600 miles to the train's final destination at Chicago Union Station.

10 KING STREET EAST, GANANOQUE, ONTARIO
Building/Property Name: Visitor Centre/Gananoque Library
Address: 10 King St East
The former Victoria Hotel, currently used as a public library, stands on the north bank of the Gananoque River adjacent to Confederation Park and near the Town centre. It is composed of a two-storey main block facing King Street East, and a single-storey rear wing that runs along the south side of Park Street.
Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest:
Constructed in the 1840s, the two-storey brick main block has design or physical value as a relatively rare and representative example of a Classical Revival style hotel. Its balanced, ‘temple’ front features a central entrance flanked by large shopfront windows, symmetrical fenestration at the second level and gable, and low front gable roof with returned eaves. The design or physical value extends to the rear wing, which includes a cupola with bell cast roof. The property has historical value and associative value not only as an early hotel in the community (originally the Albion Hotel, then Victoria Hotel) but also for its direct association with the Jones Shovel Company, a successful local company that operated in the building between 1906 and 1963. Combined, the architecture of the main block and wing defines and supports the historic commercial character of King Street East in downtown Gananoque, and serves the community as a public library.
Description of Heritage Attributes
Key attributes that express the design or physical value of 10 King Street East include its:
• Combined two-storey main block and storey-and-a-half rear wing;
• Low front gable roof on the main block with returned eaves;
• Second level balcony on the King Street East frontage of the main block that is supported by decorated metal pillars;
• Symmetrical fenestration and door openings on the King Street East front (east) of the main block;
• Symmetrical fenestration and central door on the north façade of the rear wing; and,
• Cupola with a bell cast roof on the rear wing roof.
Key attributes that express the property’s contextual value include its:
• Location in the centre of the Town and siting with minimal setback on a main thoroughfare; and,
• Visual relationships with other 19th century historic properties including the Old Foundry (9-15 King Street East) and Town Hall (30 King Street East).
Charwell Point is one of the more prominent features on Prince Edward County's south shore. At its base is Gull Pond, a rich wetland that is home to many interesting plants and animals. The point and pond both fall within the Prince Edward County South Shore Important Bird and Biodiversity Area, a designation that signals the special nature of the place, but as of yet offers no increased protection.
This morning the best sighting here was a Solitary Sandpiper, an apt name for an unobtrusive bird that seems to prefer its own company over that of others of its own kind, or anyone else.
Shorebirds can be a bit hard to come by in PEC, but after photographing this singular bird I pushed north inland from Lake Ontario and discovered a massive puddle of mud churned up by the off road rampage people that patrol the area on their ATVs and 4X4 pickups. Here things were more happily crowded, with four Killdeer, three Greater Yellowlegs, two Lesser Yellowlegs, and five Least Sandpipers present. Accessible off the south end of Lighthall Road, this new (to me) shorebird location definitely warrants further visits.
NGC 6960 is the designation given to the western segment of the Veil Nebula, a supernova remnant. The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. The bright star at the centre is 52 Cygni. It is situated in the constellation of Cygnus and lies around 2,400 light years distant.

120 King Street West:
Despite considerable change, a good deal of cohesive work remains:
The foundation and two chimney masses; timber post and beam framing; much joisting and principal roof framing are apparently origina1 work. The basement f1oor was once wood plank on sleepers. Walls and ceilings were completely plastered on wood lath (curiously, sawn lath!). Basement frames, doors, window reveals, cheeks, surviving casements; size of openings, artifacts, all suggest very early date of construction.
Throughout the house, vertical 2 paneled doors survive almost everywhere (simply boasted panels, very plain bolection moulds) and match one another in style and workmanship whether passage, entrance, service, closet or cupboard doors. Architraves have a plain character as do skirting boards, and there is no doubt that all were made by the same hand. The strong impression is that they were made on site. A fair amount of feather wood graining survives. It, like the finish carpentry, is primitive. There are at least 5 partial refenestrations evident.
The plan is centre hall with 4 principal rooms originally at first and second storeys, the summer kitchen of 2 or more rooms extending north and in line with the west wall main house. Roof ridge, principal, is E/W; ridge of summer kitchen wing was N/S. Main entrance was centre S.
In 1860 the lot had two barns to the north (axis N/S); a large cupola to the west with tall centre flagpole; a dug well and privy. The access lane to the north buildings was on the east side N/S. A two tier paling fence surrounded the lot in 1860.
Originally, the three floors had not less than 9 fireplaces, one oven. one thimble-accessed stove flue (NE room second floor), and possibly a stove pipe or flue in the summer kitchen. This is a singular number of fireplace openings for any house of such modest size in Upper Canada. Of the hearths, 4 or 6 survive (two are believed concealed).

The seppies wanted a fight, and his blood was boiling for one. against the insurmountable odds, certain doom. The brothers charged into certain doom, or what would have been for normal men, but they weren't men, they were clones, arc troopers, and most importantly, brothers. "For the republic!" charging in, the clones shot, blasted and slashed at anything between them and victory for the republic.

Essentially nothing but a cockpit, rotor, and fuselage, the CH-54 could pick up heavier loads than any other helicopter.
Line 1 of the Saint Petersburg Metro - Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line
Type ‘E’ cars (factory designation - 81-703) were developed and mass-produced in 1963-1969 by Mytishchi Machine Building Plant in Moscow, a total of 822 cars were produced; part of its were delivered to Leningrad (St Petersburg) where operated from 1964 to 2015. On its base to 1966 for Leningrad metro was developed improved variant of train model Em having three types of motor wagons: Ema - head coach (model 81-705); Em - intermediate (model 81-704) and Emkh - tail coach (model 81-706), all had driver's cabine. This variant was produced initially from 1966 by Mytishchi Machine Building Plant, then from 1968 to 1970 on Leningrad Carriage Works named after I. E. Egorov; 150 (130 - in Leningrad) of Em type, 32 (20) Em and 32 (21) Emh type wagons were built total. The cars of Em, Ema and Emh types were sent to Avtovo depot of Leningrad Metro and began to serve the Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya line opened in November 1967, and then Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya line, where they supplemented the rolling stock, which previously received cars of E type, and replaced the cars of the previous types G and D.
Further development of Em-type
In 1971 I.E. Egorov plant switched to production of intermediate cars of Em-501 type (factory designation 81-501), head cars of Ema-502 type (81-502) and tail cars of Emkh-503 type (81-503) with bodies like those of car No. 3894 but having three corrugations instead of two above the sill belt. Such cars were produced with reinforced bogies of Ezh type cars.
In total, during the period 1969-1975, the Egorov plant produced 202 cars of Em-501 type, 80 cars of Ema-502 type and 22 cars of Emh-503 type. Production of cars of the Em-501 type continued until 1978, and of the Ema-502 type - up to 1980 inclusive. In 1970-1973 the plant named after I.E. Egorov built cars of Em-508 and Em-509 types (factory designations 81-508, 81-509) for Moscow Metro. A total of 171 cars of type EM-508 and 62 cars of type EM-509 were produced.
Since 2001 St. Petersburg-based CJSC ‘Vagonmash’ (former Egorov plant) has started modernisation and renewal of Ema, Em, Ema-502 and Em-501 cars operating in St. Petersburg Metro.

The Crab Nebula (catalogue designations M1, NGC 1952) is a supernova remnant in the constellation of Taurus, it was first identified in 1731 by English astronomer John Bevis. The nebula was independently rediscovered in 1758 by Charles Messier as he was observing a bright comet. Messier catalogued it as the first entry in his catalogue of comet-like objects.
After some observation, noticing that the object that he was observing was not moving across the sky, Messier concluded that the object was not a comet. Messier then realized the usefulness of compiling a catalogue of celestial objects of a cloudy nature, but fixed in the sky, to avoid incorrectly cataloguing them as comets.
William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse observed the nebula at Birr Castle in 1844 using a 36-inch (0.9m) telescope, and referred the nebula as the "Crab Nebula" because a drawing he made of it looked somewhat like a crab. He observed it again later, in 1848 using a 72-inch (1.8m) telescope and could not confirm the supposed resemblance, but the name stuck nevertheless.

One of many such designations across the country--this one in extreme SW Colorado. I would pass another the next day 100 miles or so down the road. In spite of the fact that the other CR is designated a National Monument, this one is, IMO, much more aesthetically pleasing (I discovered later the other CR received its designation due to the presence of an archeological site).
When I took this, I was in one hellacious hurry--something I usually avoid on my vacations . . . except near their end, and this was very much near the end. After touring the Valley of the Gods in Utah an hour previously, I was now trying to make it to Mesa Verde National Park before losing the light (I succeeded--though barely)--trying to squeeze it in to my quickly eroding schedule. In spite of my rush, I did stop to take this photo about halfway along.
If you hate photos of bluffs and Mesas, then you should probably unsubscribe from my photostream, as there will plenty of such photos in the weeks to come. As I noted, I also visited the Valley of the Gods, but before that, I also spent a couple days in Monument Valley.

If you listened carefully you may have heard some gnashing of teeth as I was writing this... I don't really like the name for our plant, 'Dorotheanthus'. Martin Heinrich Gustav Schwantes (1881-1960) who coined this word (1927) no doubt much loved his mother Dorothea Schwantes née Meyer (1849-?), but I think his ear was off when he made up 'Dorotheanthus'. Yet there we are: it is our plant's official name.
But we are still allowed, too, to use its synonym: Mesembryanthemum, coined by Johann Jakob Dillenius (1684-1749) in 1719 and adopted by great Carolus Linnaeus. Give it to considerate Dillenius to have sought not to overly confuse his botanical colleagues. Earlier in 1684, Jacob Breyne (1637-1697) had used the word 'Mesembrianthemum', which he derived from the Greek words for noon and for flower. But between 1684 and 1719 more of this kind of plant had been found, some of which did not flower at midday. Hence Dillenius - seeking to leave more or less intact Breyne's designation - changed only a single letter in the latter's name: the 'i' for a 'y'; it now meant - again with Greek derivation - 'a flower with its pistil ('embryo') in the middle'. Now, that's the kind of inventivity I really like.
Our Two Honeybees doubtless from the same nest are far too busy to care about these things. And I got up and helped myself to a spoonful of honey from Brazilian coffee flowers.
The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota (RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft that was developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II. During the war the C-47 was used for troop transport, cargo, paratrooper drops, glider towing, and military cargo parachute drops. The C-47 remained in front-line service with various military operators for many years.[2] It was produced in approximately triple the numbers of the larger, much heavier payload Curtiss C-46 Commando, which filled a similar role for the U.S. military.
Approximately 100 countries' armed forces have operated the C-47 with over 60 variants of the aircraft produced. As with the civilian DC-3, the C-47 remains in service, over 80 years after the type's introduction.
Perhaps the biggest 1940s re-enactment show in the country. |Complete with a temporary airfield for the duration of the show, various aircraft can land and take off, and fly over the showground for air displays. Attending will be thousands of re-enactors from all theatre's of war, allies and axis , living history groups will displaying in adjacent fields . Add that to the hundreds of military vehicles attending .
