People reach out to grab the handles on a large copper vat outside the Palace of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. Touching the handles is thought to bring good luck. The pots were once coated in gold. The scratch marks were made by Chinese soldiers who used their bayonets to remove the gold in the 1949 revolution. (Oct. 2013)
