Project.
The competitionfs brief was to envision a new concept for a retail space that could be applied to different situations.
Size should not exceed 500 m2. Layout should be adaptable to different sites.
Context.
Consumption places have replaced almost every space in the city.
This means that almost the totality of the available surface in the city is privetely owned.
This situation creates a certain set of behaviours and restrictions.
I think it is not acceptable that in order to stop for a chat for few minutes we must consume.
It means that we must rent a portion of private space in order to use.
The design proposal starts from the intention of creating a territory that can be used freely (of course within the limits of public accepted behaviours) and eventually used as a consumption place.
In other words the prince (the brand) should offer a space for its citizens (the clients).
Concept.
Arcipelago tries to define a space with characteristics that differ from usual retail space.
A territory with a low definition where different behaviours are possible: buying, meeting, walking through, resting.
Consumption spaces have to evolve to a new paradigm.
They have to provide certain social occasion, thay should be place for information, education and self expression.
Evolved:
not mere consumption. Social, cultural, environmental issueshave to be taken into consideration.
It is time to think also about the consequences of our actions.
A territory:
is a defined area (including land and waters),considered to be a possession of a person, organization, institution, animal, state or country subdivision.
Archipelago:
is the metaphor of contemporary time. A cluster of diverse elements with differences and similarities.
Climate: being a low definition space, Arcipelagofs spatial qualities are controlled through events not by formal composition.
Is the harmony of the space that changes not only the melody.
Abstract:
trying once again to erasethe psychological weight of architecturefocussing on relations noton discrete elements.
Liquid:
the proposal defines a set ofrules of inference. The layout adptstime to time, place to place.
