A southbound Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific Railway freight is about to slam over the crossing of the Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range at Ramshaw near Spruce, Minnesota, on October 1, 1989. Leading the train is DW&P SD40 No. 5907, along with two SD40s from owner Canadian National.

While mom waits in the nest, dad brings food for her and the three chicks. This is the first year I have seen three little heads poking up from the nest. In the past there has been only one or two chicks.

What a good Burrowing Owl dad. He brings breakfast for one of his hungry owlets. Besides being the provider, he also takes out the trash, gives flight lessons, and stands guard over his family and their home. Happy Father's Day.

I thought I'd better finish the year with a beach reflection. I would always end up as a pirate when going to New Year's Eve parties, predictably, and as this coast was famous for wrecking Stand and Deliver seems as obvious choice, by Adam and the Ants. Here's hoping for many more great skies next year. A massive thank you to all who have supported and commented and joked, it has meant so much, Happy New Year to you all, Paul:))

No gorey blood spattered creepsters dripping in horror this time. I wanted a little picture to practice on and this was it. I really want to play a Joan of Arc character.

Because people might ask, I’m wearing Tram’s awesome new hair found at Uber, P.0.E’s chest plate, PFC’s Warrior gloves and Glory cape and pauldrons, Aisling’s corset, Noble Creation’s and Azuchi’s armor pieces. The sword’s a full perm item off of the marketplace and the pose is by the fantastic storyteller Latorre Dagger. If you like her stuff, you’ll need to poke her for a demo as she’s only on the marketplace :<

The Goldfish was much more likely to have been a castaway in a retention pond than someone's pet. When removed from a fish bowl and dumped in a large pond or artificial lake, a child's Goldfish can grow this big.

It was dark and beginning to drizzle when this was taken but the Goldfish really stands out in the low light. They must be very easy for Ospreys to spot in the artificial ponds and fake "lakes" of many housing developments.

To quote a Judas Priest song, Delivering the Goods, I think that is exactly what's happening here. As the southbound Coastal Classic crosses Upper Trail Lake into the tiny berg of Moose Pass all a passenger has to do is look out the window and be in awe of what they see before them. Unfortunately all days are not like this one especially this summer with the amount of rain we have received. 9.02.22

Foxfield Railway was built in 1893 to serve the colliery at Dilhorne on the Cheadle Coalfield North Saffordshire. Tackling the formidable 1:19 to 1:26 gradient out of the colliery site at Dilhorne is Robert Stephenson & Hawthorne's Saddle Tank 62 Ugly. (They became known as Uglies due to their short saddle tanks and larger fireboxes. These give them a somewhat ungainly appearance, but they are a more powerful locomotive than the Hunslet Austerities) (Wikipedia)

Barely a month old, WM SD45 #7445 is seen wearing it's as-delivered red, white, and black paint scheme on July 13th 1969 at Port Covington. You'll notice the initial lack of black paint over the grills and radius of the long hood, and the lack of white background behind the road numbers. This engine later became CSX 4618 and was retired circa 2007. It was purchased by the George's Creek Central, but it appears it arrived at Metro East Industries in St. Louis ten years ago and never left. Who knows what the future holds for this one. One of my 2024 favourite railway pictures:

To the beginnig of our autumn hobby trip we visited the “Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya” (FGC) in the Barcelona area, where five modern Stadler bimodal engines took over the freight trains in the last year. The FGC class 257 engines are relatives to the famous “Euro Dual” type, but metre gauge and originally based on the SALi class delivered to Bolivia by Stadler in 2019.

FGC 257.05 is seen with a potash train from the Súria mine to the Barcelona harbour in Pineda de Bages at a former junction. However the straight line to Salient was abandoned some years ago. In exchange the traffic on the Súria branch has increased and the FGC 257s with their impressive trains can be seen several times a day.

Joint trip with Thomas Kabisch - and many thanks to Oliver Heckmann for the current timetables!

Wishing everybody the best for 2025!

Delivered to the USN in 1955 as 141008. 68 years latter this wonderful airframe is still earning revenue with Conquest Air flying a daily service from Opa Locka to Nassau. What I like, is it still retains its USN scheme.

Good or bad, divine or not, or just a bird doing its thing. This crow let me approach quite a bit before it started cawing and, then, got away. Crows play a prominent role in northern European folklore - the crow was Odin's precious bird. Small wonder that in a Christian perspective its reputation is low. I don't think the crows are bothered by this. If there is a bird that will outlive humanity, it's the crow.

An uncommon Saturday session on the Burna Harbor Railroad yielded an opportunity to shoot from the highway bridge leading into the port. Cliffs Steel forms the backdrop for BHS dropping down the hill with 15 cars for Norfolk Southern.
